i miss the 90s when we had Black shows.
not like Black-ish or grown-ish where there's a Black cast but it's written so that white people get the jokes and can relate but like Living Single where it's clear that it's written for a Black audience and fuck whoever else is watching. even Martin even though i can't stand him was Blackity-Black.
we started to lose that in the 2000s with shows like One on One which started off on the right foot, but kinda lost it when there was an episode where Flex kept shutting down Duane's talk about race, and that made me incredibly sad. later in the series, Marques Houston showed up and then Shannon Elizabeth came in to work at Flex's dad's barbershop. happily they killed off that storyline, but the damage was done. when Breanna went off to college, she ended up rooming with two white roommates and a young Asian girl, and an annoying-as-always Ray J (why can't we be rid of him already?). the storylines became vapid and shallow and geared to a whiter audience.
we never really get to see US. we get the watered-down version that white people are comfortable with or can laugh at, but we don't get us anymore.
we lost something along the way.

because they all love and hate each other to varying degrees like patrick loves tennis and tashi and art but art the most and art loves tennis and patrick but he loves tashi the most and tashi loves tennis the most but none of them can have the thing they want most so they use one another to get closer to it and in the aftermath end up resenting each other for what could have been

There is a sort of constant battle between the two of them to the degree that they are fighting, but they are taking care of one another. When the sugar goes on the cheek of Patrick, Art takes it off with his hand in a very nice gesture of kindness -- and very intimate, I would say. But at the same time, they are really tense. And I think it’s about being jealous of one another, but at the same time wanting one another.
