Waiting Sheds Cooperative Study and Research Program
DiscLab | Research and Criticism is thrilled to announce the selection of its flagship program Waiting Sheds Cooperative Study and Research Program as one of the recipients of DOEN Foundation’s multi-year grant through Arts Collaboratory. Joining a network of rigorous, translocal artistic and research-oriented organizations and platforms operating across the globe, the approval of DiscLab’s long-term program provides an opportunity for the organization to continue and sustain its initial activities to be expounded with and attached to diverse issues and participants who are working on parallel fields. DiscLab hopes that the support of an external organization will facilitate a productive and progressive approach of engagement with local and regional infrastructures in intensifying and determining ways of working together to address issues that Waiting Sheds struggles to deal with.
DiscLab expresses its utmost gratitude to all individuals and organizations who have supported its program and members in the past three years. With this development in DiscLab’s structure, we hope that we continue to share this commitment and to enable a community—which might always come in parts and never as a whole—that critically reflects and acts on its context through arts and other allied fields of resistance and imagination.
Tumblr media
“Waiting Sheds is an itinerant, cooperative studies program and practice-based research immersion that relocates the encounter of theories, facilitation of discourses, and transposition of knowledges at the intersection of state, market, alternative and non-public infrastructures. […] Waiting Sheds is a proposal-in-action with two founding intentions: to react to the complacency of educational programs and to the calcification of collaboration as frameworks of knowledge production; and to constitute a sustainable support group for independent intellectual and artistic endeavors.”
____
The first phase of Waiting Sheds titled “Organizing Virtualities” was realized under the First Lucban Assembly: PAMUMUHUNAN (Waiting for a capital) in May 2015, organized and funded by Project Space Pilipinas and curated by DiscLab | Research and Criticism. Former lecturers of Waiting Sheds include Eileen Legaspi-Ramirez, Ade Darmawan, Antariksa, Clara Lobregat-Balaguer, Elaine W. Ho, Clara Cheung, and Tammy Ko-Robinson. The remaining phases of Waiting Sheds Cooperative Study and Research Program will unfold in 2016 until 2017.
More details soon.

An Auto-corrected Journal of Printing Properties
DiscLab's An Auto-Corrected Journal of Printing Properties is available at the New York Art Book Fair. Drop by at our publisher's booth (The Office of Culture and Design/Hardworking Goodlooking) to secure a copy.
"As we initially squatted online, we started collaborating with private and public institutions and local and international individuals and groups to realize projects. The relationship is not generally interdependent. The structure is not akin to a rainforest. Our work is like building a garden between anthills. Strains of radical embeddedness are liminal, however, forming around the edges of frustration and imminent exhaustion. [...]
[...] This printed version hopes to show that knowledges—whether through art, culture or a contemporary—are always made and never natural; and that making and doing with knowledges is an infinite task of submissions, of turning in and returning to." - Editor's note

Squatting Knowledges: Franchising
DiscLab is excited to announce the fourth iteration of Squatting Knowledges in Munich!
Tumblr media
Held at Studio Klaus vom Bruch, Akademie der Bildenden Künste München on June 28, Squatting Knowledges' fourth iteration is titled Franchising (Asking Same Questions Twice).
In Squatting Knowledges at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Manila-based DiscLab | Research and Criticism presents the position of the First Lucban Assembly: PAMUMUHUNAN (Waiting for a capital), a project organized by Project Space Pilipinas and curated by DiscLab in an agrarian town of Southern Luzon Island in the Philippines. The presentation will play with the formats of funding proposal and marketing, while discussing terms, such as organization/organizing, solidarity, and collectivity. The rehearsal of these questions and the (un)conscious restaging of discussions around the terms will problematize a common format of exchange in artistic field: the meeting/encounter of two different contexts, in order to inaugurate and/or challenge the limits of self-reflexivity and criticality in projects committed to organization, solidarity, and collectivity.
