Until recently, I used a hard landline into my h-office and pointed my unified messaging service to both my landline and my cell. In fact, my entire practice is based on the phone. Once you have a spot and start to use it, you’ll realize what I mean by how much time you waste looking for the proper cord on a daily basis! 2. You can use a cable clip for each charging cord you own and hang them along a wall, inside your desk or even on the inside of a door or closet. This way, the laptop cable rests exactly where you need it, without it being strewn across your work surface or, worse, disappearing into a faraway space that can’t be reached without moving furniture. The solution to both problems? Desk cable management clips.įor devices like your laptop, use these clips to snake the wire under and up the back of your desk. When you have a phone, laptop, digital speaker, tablet, e-watch and so on, they move around to different spots but usually only come with one cable to charge. This skews the calculus significantly towards the laptop with in-office docking station as the preferred option. But, the fact remains that many attorneys will be able to put in more hours (while out of the office), if they have a laptop. Typically, desktops will cost less than laptops in every single regard, from purchase to maintenance and replacement. However, when using a laptop on a docking station, you can also use your laptop's display as an additional monitor (which can be quickly tilted down to hide a game of solitaire or personal chat/web-browser window). Although, all that screen may make it harder to pretend like you were working when the boss comes waltzing in. All that screen real estate is helpful when drafting pleadings, doing research, or even responding to emails. Having a desktop usually goes hand in hand with having a large monitor or maybe two or three. Fortunately for laptop users, a docking station can be configured to have a hardwired internet connection that allows your laptop to avoid Wi-Fi when docked in office. Although desktops and laptops can both work on Wi-Fi networks, when you're in the office, using a hardwired connection to the internet is much more secure. One of the biggest advantages to using a desktop computer is security. After all, when it comes to tech and computing, size matters.īelow is some helpful advice on navigating this computational dilemma. F-Secure’s 9.9 point aggregate score beats all others except AVG and Bitdefender, both of which hold a perfect 10. The labs use wildly different scoring systems, so I've devised an algorithm that maps them all onto a 10-point scale to yield an aggregate lab score. It's Surprisingly Easy to Be More Secure Online So did another dozen programs, among them Avast, Bitdefender, and Kaspersky Free. F-Secure earned a perfect 18 points in the latest round of testing. A product can receive up to six points for each category, with 18 points being the maximum possible score.
