Raphael: The mouse smiled brightly. It outfoxed the cat! Then down came the claw and that, love, was that.
Karlach: …
Karlach: Not in a box. Not with a fox. Not in a house. Not with a mouse. I would not eat them here or there. I would not eat them anywhere. I would not eat green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Sam-I-Am.
Do you ever think about the fact that Gortash tadpoled his parents personally? Because I do
That’s not the action of a man who is “over it”. That’s the action of someone extremely hurt. Not only needing to punish them by turning them into puppets, but by delivering that punishment personally.
Do you think he went there, trying to start a conversation about what they did to him? Wanting to hear some sort of apology, despite himself, because that would mean they loved him, and underneath it all he’s just a boy wanting his parents to love him so badly that he showed up there himself?
And they just shrugged, not a single ounce of regret coming out?
Do you think about him holding them down, threatening them, angry, inserting the tadpole while they cried, just like he cried, but just like they ignored him back then, he ignores them now?
Do you think about the fact that if maybe, maybe, they had been sorry, he might have seen regret in action, getting that parental love he so obviously craved, and he might have been sorry for what he did to Karlach?
