Given it's his birthday today, I wanted to share a little bit of appreciation for George Rextrew.
His portrayal of Edwin in Dead Boy Detectives was so excellent that it sparked an enthusiasm and devoted interest in a show the likes of which I hadn't experienced in years. His performance was leagues above anything I had seen from other shows in recent years. He had such amazing screen presence and charisma, and he, along with the rest of the cast, created something that I will hold dear to my heart for countless years to come.
I hope that I get to see George in many many more roles, especially more lead roles in the future because he truly is a rare talent and has clearly put so much love and time and dedication into honing his craft as an actor.
I find myself incredibly grateful for the fact that I was able to watch Dead Boy Detectives when I did, and find this amazing community of people through it, who have rallied together with their mutual love for the show and it's cast and crew.
It has been wonderful to witness the life of this show that was obviously beloved by everyone that worked on it. George Rextrew put his all into his role as Edwin and it showed. He absolutely shone.
I wish him all the success in his future career and wait eagerly to see what he will do next!

George Rexstrew - the man, the myth, the legend - once said that this was his favourite scene in the show, so it seems only right that the finale of the ep5 tournament falls on his birthday. Time to choose the very best gif/moment from THE scene of all time! Happy Birthday, George 💙

Every piece I’ve read or watched about the making of Dead Boy Detectives has talked about the enormous amount of preparation and dedication that George Rexstrew put into understanding and building the character of Edwin Payne, and I am absolutely certain that the character and the show are both far richer for his input.
But if I had to choose one thing that he brings to the role that I cannot imagine anyone else doing quite so well, it would be that he shows us Edwin Payne as a caring and compassionate person.
Even when it’s inconvenient for Edwin. Even when he’d rather not be. Even when it costs him personally. Even when it conflicts with his carefully constructed image as the emotionally-reserved partner who is there to get down to business and who plays hardball. Edwin Payne cares so much.
Because of George Rexstrew's performance, that’s something that we get to see in Edwin’s face as he listens to others, from the very first episode. It’s something that we hear in his voice, not just during the purpose speech, but as he talks to Shelby. As he tries to convince Simon that he can leave. As he cries for Niko.
I would love to do a longer piece about this someday, but that's the thing that sticks with me the most. I cannot imagine this version of Edwin Payne without George Rexstrew to show us his compassion.

Happy Birthday to George Rexstrew, the best Edwin Payne we know! 🎉
To honor him, a birthday billboard for George is being displayed in Times Square! You can catch it on the 6th minute of every hour. You can expect to see it at 12:06 am, 1:06 am, and so on until the end of the day!
In addition to the billboard, our Save Dead Boy Detectives Campaign Team has also donated $150.00 to The Parkinson’s Foundation as a special gift to appreciate George and honor the memory of his father who passed away due to Parkinson's disease.

If you'd like to join us in celebrating George's birthday by making a charitable donation, you can go to https://www.parkinson.org/.
If you live in New York and want to visit the billboard, it is located at 1560 Broadway. Stand in Duffy Square and look right above the Pelé store! You can watch the live stream on the Times Square Billboard website!

I’ve seen a lot of posts speculating on whether the Principal might be Niko’s mom or have some other connection to her. But I haven’t seen anyone speculate on whether Kashi might be Niko’s dad. We’ve been told that her dad died, but no details. Maybe he was simply lost at sea and presumed dead? We don’t know how long Kashi has been sitting in that fish. Plus, the Night Nurse even remarks that Niko reminds her a lot of Kashi. Now, I don’t think this theory is at all likely, but it’s an interesting idea to explore. I think Niko and Kashi would get along well.

Friends, what have we done to ourselves? We have chosen in favour of the hug scene over and over, and now we must pay for it by having to make impossible choices between them... Good luck to all of us, and see you on the other side... 🫂

Dead Boy Detectives Anniversary: day 1
@dbda-anniversary prompt: Reunited
#this episode does such a good job with the rollercoaster of “success! but wait!” that it's nice to get to spend an extra moment here#with the hugs! and Edwin's happy little laugh!#and also “you're both still dead!”#because there are times when “thank god you're both still alive” just isn't appropriate#dbda gifs#niko sasaki#edwin payne#charles rowland#crystal palace surname von hoverkraft#dead boy detectives

Here are all five frames that I did for The Best Frames We Know, in sequence order!
It was so cool getting to be part of this project alongside so many talented artists -- there were 173 of us and 403 frames!
Huge thanks to @ezanartist for doing so much work to organize everything and put this together; it was truly a monumental task.
I can't recommend enough that everyone check out the website, which has videos both full-speed and slowed, as well as a gallery of all of the frames!

Today a small exhibition of my Tolkien, Sherlock and Dead Boy Detectives inspired art opened at Werdorf Castle (near Wetzlar, Germany). It’ll run until the autumn of this year. The museum (housed in a Baroque castle) is open every second and fourth Sunday of the month. More info here: https://heimatverein-werdorf.de/
