(How to give a warning without any spoilers?) They thought this scenario would would be going too far and toned it down in the game. This is the BAD bad end. It will be upsetting for some. If you find the original bad enough, do NOT consider reading all of this. You do not want to know. You will not be able to unsee this.

This is the full game sequence. As it is pretty long, I will be posting it up in parts and linking them together as I go along. At the moment this part is similar to the game. When it gets worse I will be ramping up the warning messages.

Trip and Virus - NSFW warning

I honestly hate Trip and Virus but their actors did such a good job. Yuya and Yu, like the rest of the cast, really got their characters and were not afraid of what they had to do as part of that. Honestly, I was so surprised with how far they took this scene and how good Yu and Yuya did.

DMMD Stage play sex scenes

I honestly thought the way they did the sex scenes, through dance, was so clever but was quite disappointed that Ren’s was so much tamer than the others. I think this is probably the reason it was the one chosen to be filmed, because Ren’s route is the least explicit.

Final thoughts on the Dmmd stage play

I have now seen the stream and I have a lot of thoughts so I thought I’d share them.

No.1: Everyone did an amazing job. I watch A LOT of 2.5d shows and this is one of my favourites. Not because of the yaoi or anything like that but I think it’s interesting, well executed and well acted.

No.2: The staging and direction I think were perfect for this show. It kept it on a smaller scale and focused on the relationships and feelings of the characters rather than the action which I think suites the show very well. One might say it’s the exact opposite of the anime. Well executed, gay and good.

No.3: Honestly, after watching it for a third time I can say I have 0 complaints. While there are things that they could do in a rerun to improve it I wouldn’t say that I am annoyed with. As the first proper bl play in the 2.5d industry, as far as I know and I’m not counting Patalliro as it is not bl, it walked the line between story and fan service perfectly. In Koujaku and Noiz’s routes at least I felt like the sex scenes and kiss scenes worked perfectly and weren’t too fanservicey and weren’t there just to please the audience. In those two routes as well I definitely felt like they didn’t sacrifice those scenes in favour of story either and were the perfect length. 

I said I have 0 complaints, and that is true of the play overall but not of the Ren route. I feel like they did sacrifice the romantic/sex scenes in favour of story and as someone who has seen the other routes it’s probably my least favourite because they did this. The sex scene seems to come out of nowhere, doesn’t have really any relevance to the scene or payoff and is insanely short. Like I said, which is why I think they filmed this one.

No.4: I think this has set a precedent and during its run a stage play of Junjou Romantica was announced so I think we’re likely to get more bl stage plays from now on.

No.5: Very, very sadly I think we are not going to get a dvd no matter how many people answer. Both Sei/Ren’s actor and Aoba’s actor seemed very definite on this. I have spoken to my friend and we both agree that we think that one of the actor’s agencies let that actor be in the stage but won’t let them film it due to the nature of the performance. Since Sei/Ren and Trip are freelance, this was the first big show for Clear/Virus/Noiz and the others don’t really do anything it seems likely to be Aoba or Mink’s agency. However, Mink’s actor seemed really enthusiastic about the show so I’m almost 95% sure it’s Aoba’s actor’s agency. But please don’t try to write to them or anything as this is merely speculation.

No.6: In my eyes it is quite likely we will get a sequel play for Mizuki and Vitri, at least though a rerun of the other routes is possible too, but I doubt Aoba and Sei/Ren’s actors will come back. As much as I loved Nagata Seiichiro as Aoba, he didn’t seem as enthusiastic about the play as anyone else who was in it. I think he enjoyed the experience and really loves the cast but I don’t think he’d agree to do another one. You could see whenever one of the others talked about kissing him or a sex scene he seemed very awkward. Sei/Ren’s actor is less certain but I think, similarly to Aoba, he enjoyed the stage as an experience but he wants to move on from it.

Mizuki, Vitri, Clear, Noiz and Mink on the other hand seemed to be very attached to the show and I can see all of them agreeing to come back for another one. Vitri and Mizuki seemed especially enthusiastic, saying they were sad that they didn’t get to kiss Aoba.  

I really hope there is another one, with possibly all the other routes as well as Mizuki and Vitri, and they film a dvd due to high demand from fans.

Second is Kohatsu Allen as Koujaku

Q1: What are the strongpoints and weakpoints of your characters? What do you think is similar to yourself, or not similar but is still a charmpoint of the character?

He has an older brother-like aura, he makes people like him, he has a shop and is able to cut hair, and he is very charismatic. I’m useless with my hands so I’m envious of him.

Q2: If you were in Aoba’s position, which route would you choose?

Koujaku. He is very manly, can make you feel better when you’re not feeling great and is very kind. Personally, I also like how Japanese he feels.

Q3: Please tell us about an experience where you have had a brain lapse*

When I was in highschool I went to Argentina and had a tango class. There, for the first time, I saw two men doing tango together and I kind of had a brain lapse as I had always thought it was a male and female pair. I think this experience really affected me.**

Q4: What is your message to everyone?

I’ve been in a lot of plays up until now but this is the first one I have felt so nervous for. I approached this play with passion and I think I have rediscovered what a ‘play’ is. I really hope that everyone can understand the themes and messages that are in this play

First is Nagata Seichiro as Seragaki Aoba

Q1: What are the strongpoints and weakpoints of your characters? What do you think is similar to yourself, or not similar but is still a charmpoint of the character?

Aoba is usually quite rash. But he has this amazing power called scrap but sometimes a lot of people get hurt. I think he’s so interesting because there are so many facets to his personality. 

Q2: If you were in Aoba’s position, which route would you choose?

Personally, I would pick Noiz. A life not knowing gentleness or pain, what would a person like that really think? How would someone like that really view the world? I’m really interested in him (laughs)

Q3: Please tell us about an experience where you have had a brain lapse*

The first time I went to Tokyo and saw the amount of people on the train. (laughs). In my hometown there’s one train every 20 minutes and it’s really easy to commute so I have a really hard time in Tokyo (laughs)

Q4: What is your message to everyone?

This play is like no other play we’ve put on in this industry before, I hope the message and themes can reach the audience. We have five different routes so I’d be very happy if you could see them all. I leave myself in your care

Some (long) thoughts regarding the Dramatical Murder stage play.

So, I’ve personally watched Mink’s route twice (December 21 and December 29 show) and Ren’s route also twice (once, via live stream) so, unfortunately, i don’t know what happened to the other routes.

First, some general thought about the stage play. I think the stage play was really fun. Some of the actors (especially Noiz’s actor Tomizono Rikiya) sound almost the same as their game counterparts. But, there are some things that they cut from the game which is understandable since the stage play is around 2 hours long-only (including the 15 mins break). The stage play is basically, the summarized version of the game.

Mizuki’s actor (Iwaki Naoya) was really good. You can feel the emotions during his Scrap scene. I wished that they added Mizuki’s route for the stage play since he has a route in ps vita version of the game. Clear’s actor (Yamagata Yuuki) was really cute and funny (Wished I could watch his route and all other routes, unfortunately, it’s too expensive for me). I don’t know what to say for Koujaku and Noiz since I wasn’t able to watch their route but I think that they’ve chosen the right actor for Noiz because Tomizono Rikiya acts and sound a little bit like Noiz. I rarely play/choose Noiz route whenever I play DMMD, but after watching him on stage, it made me appreciate Noiz more. I love the scene after Tae scold Koujaku, Clear, Noiz and Aoba for being noisy/fighting in Aoba’s room. Some of Koujaku’s actor (Kohatsu Allen) lines during the stage were really funny and he looks cool wearing Koujaku’s kimono. 

Akushima’s actor (Moriya Hayato) was also good. I’m amazed that his voice/throat was able to handle his dialogue and last until the last show (because he was constantly shouting on his megaphone). Hopefully, his skit with Virus and Trip won’t be cut during the DMMD stage replay. Virus (Tominaga Yuuya) and Trip ( Yoshioka Yu) actors were really good too. I love their skits and I’ve noticed that their skits change every performance. They’ve portrayed their characters well.
