shura has been established to be someone who was supposed to serve the royal family too, due to that being how kohga had gone about things. shura could’ve very well been a retainer of someone in the royal family in hoshido and i’m sure he held a greater respect for the kingdom when he was in his youth, but after the destruction of kohga and having been turned away, i’m sure that high level of respect had dulled down considering. i’m sure he doesn’t hold it against the royals personally, but the fact he was turned away in the first place kind of gave him such a shock that he can’t entirely think of the government in the same way again.

even the way shura talks to royalty before and after his recruitment is jarringly different, like he backpedals REALLY hard in birthright once he finds out that he just tried to rob the prince of hoshido blind. shura’s talking really informal before he knows and like, almost looks down on them. after he finds out he just instantly goes from “cocky thief” to “oh gods i am so fucking sorry. i am SO fucking sorry.” like, i like to think this also just reflects how he normally talks — he’s self loathing, yes, when he stops to think like he does with the royals because he knows he can’t just say whatever he wants, but with people he doesn’t respect / fear he tends to be more rude and coy with them, kinda like he’s just teasing them or something like that. in corrin’s case too he does seem to loosen up over the course of the supports, from the start seeming to be more formal than he was when you met him. if intsys wasn’t a coward and actually gave him supports with the royalty, i’d assume shura would treat them with equal if not more respect / formality because he really doesn’t want to lose his head. in revelations though shura is clearly acting informal to corrin despite knowing who he is, but that’s likely due to the fact he trusts them for taking down mokushu. what’s left is the fact he’s hateful towards himself for being a criminal, so he keeps away from corrin due to his own reputation or his own disdain towards himself even if he wasn’t presented with much of a choice. overall even, shura likely trusts corrin more than the other royals because of how he owes them a debt.

i got a big ass feeling that all of shura’s respect for royalty is mostly at face value / obligatory considering their positions because CLEARLY he does things without thinking of the consequences / says some things impulsively to save himself in the short term. like he literally didn’t think of the future until he joined corrin’s army and it’s so fucking funny because he sees azura again and is like “haha oh shit okay i guess that’s the girl i kidnapped didn’t think this would happen” and the way he talks poorly about hoshido in conquest while being respectful to the royalty in birthright. like shura is just trying to save his ass in both routes because he literally just tried to rob the big royal families who are at war and ready to kill.
