every time i listen to modest mouse i am overcome with emotions. not sure which ones. sort of a melancholy nostalgia. makes me wanna cry, tears of sorrow or joy i cannot tell. just know i definitely feel emotions.

i don't think internet poetry (tumblr poetry, tiktok poetry) is inherently bad. i've read some really good poems on both apps. however i think the ease of posting online has lead to an increase in poems that are written purely to be posted and consumed. poems that lack substance and instead just feel like a bunch of aesthetic or buzzwords strung together for the sake of going viral. it happens a lot on tiktok, a specific trope will get popular (pomegranate symbolism, canines, cannibalism metaphors..) these all make for great poems when used correctly. but a lot of the time people get ahold of these concepts and think "oh! pomegranate symbolism is popular! let me write a poem about this." and then they wind up forcing a poem instead of letting one come naturally and when enough people do this the concepts lose their intended impact and then people grow tired of them and on to the next thing. i don't think most people actually hate pomegranate poetry (etc) i think maybe people are just tired of reading soulless bs.
