hypocritehero:
Izuku has to bite back a grin when Todoroki begins to sheepishly recount his experiences in America. He wishes twiceover that he had been there just to see Todoroki fumbling over culture shock firsthand- to fumble with him and laugh at themselves, to gawk and commiserate- but for now, this is enough.
It’s enough to have Todoroki tell him about all the things Izuku missed out on with such honest expressions on his face. Not the reserved media mask of Duality, but something raw and real that he knows to be Todoroki, just as prone to mistakes and mishaps and falling asleep mid-sentence as anyone else. It makes him feel even closer somehow. Realer. Less untouchable.
Izuku wants to touch him. He wants to tuck that stray lock of hair behind his ear and kiss his heavy eyelids, rest his head in the cradle of his shoulder and breathe in the scent of his own soap clinging to his bare skin. But he can’t. He shouldn’t. His eyes wander over his face instead, visually tracing the path his fingers are itching to take. The curve of Todoroki’s cheek, the sleep-soft line of his mouth, the barely healed scar splitting it in half…
Near death experience. The memory of those words feels like getting doused in cold water, the cozy atmosphere evaporating in an instant. That still, peaceful expression is suddenly unbearable to look at and Izuku has to tear his gaze away, chest tight, breath shallow and quick. He finds himself anxiously scanning Todoroki’s body instead, eyes catching on fresh scars peeking out from underneath his mis-sized clothes.
Scars aren’t uncommon in their field of work. Hell, Izuku has a fair share of his own, but this is unknown damage. He doesn’t know anything about them and that terrifies him. Just how deep do these go…? He reaches out to touch them without a second thought, trembling fingers seeking knowledge in the form of touch.
Shouto’s conscience is scattered in the twilight of sleep. He’s comfortable. He’s safe. He hasn’t felt like this in a long while, the past month being a mess of stiff hospital cots that reek of the stale stench of synethized cotton and a concoction of other chemicals that grip his lungs and saturates them in that scent. He slumbers easily, head tucked into the pillows and his hair splayed out, red against white.
Usually, he's a light sleeper. He's used to waking up if someone so much as breathed in his direction. The creaking floors of his family home accompanied by heavy, stomping footsteps and the slam of a door is something he has trained himself to wake to. But here, Shouto sleeps, blissfully unaware of the fact that his friend is checking over his scars.
The scar that curves from his hip to his lower back looks nothing short of visceral. It tapers off into a jagged arc and is about two inches wide towards the visible base, the rest of it dipping under the waistline of his borrowed sweats. It looks like he would have been bisected in two if the wound had gone any further. The only other observable scar on his immediate person is the one that peeks out from the sleeve of his shirt, starting at his bicep and then winding down his elbow and ending at the base of his forearm. This one looks almost the same as the one on his hip, but its edges are even more rough. There are multiple dots of scarred tissue that surround the main injury.
Shouto wakes when the doorbell rings as it chimes through the unbroken silence. He jumps, as if he were startled awake. He blearily processes the fact that Izuku is scampering away from him and seems to be eagerly making his way towards the door. There's a lingering warmth on his skin that fades as Shouto props himself up back on the couch and rubs the sleep out of his eyes. It won’t be until later that Shouto will realize that Izuku had been looming over him and had pulled away when he awoke.
"Didn't realize I was so tired..." He mumbles, brushing his hair over his shoulder. He stretches, raising his arms behind his head as he yawns. Shouto hasn’t been asleep for long at all, and he knows he needs more. But for now, dinner with Izuku seems more important than getting rest.

throws bricks at you
{ answer for @superrncva ! }

He reacts quick enough to create an ice wall between him and Bakugou, but the brick chips against the corner of the barrier and nails him on the arm. “The hell is your problem?” Shouto growls.
He’s not childish enough to throw ice right ba- no, he definitely is and that’s immediately what he does.

“ you can’t do this on your own! ” -quirkiced
{ fighting sentence for @quirkiced ! }

Shouto is no stranger to fear. He is aware of when it wraps its claws around him in a cold, vice-like grip.and gnaws away at him until it reaches the root of his core. He has dreamt of oblivion and felt the shaking in his bones as the pale inevitability of death has loomed over him.
Heroes are only humans who feel all of these things, and like the fools they are, charge in anyway.
He turns back to his sister and gives her the best smile he can muster, but it’s a little manic and desperate and the fear in his two-toned eyes is evident. Anyone in this position would have to lie to themselves in order to think that there’s any hope of getting out alive. Plenty of people have flashed smiles in the wake of imminent destruction, and it has stood out as a symbol of hope.
“I have to try.” He doesn’t say any more. He is a hero. And like all heroes do, they walk towards death and laugh in its face as they try to accomplish the impossible.
