laughter escaped her and with thatĀ a familiar feeling that sheād missed for a while and discovered in their strange interaction.Ā the earlier tension had dissolved in their exchange of jest and it was almost as if she was talking with an old friend and not the ruler of persia.Ā ā iām convinced your people would love hearing about that story,Ā it actually might even increase your popularity,Ā i think i deserve a reward for that. ā her tone remained playful,Ā yet the slight raise of her brows disrupted the ease when he mentioned his husband.Ā ā of course,Ā i think you have the right to do so,Ā my lips are sealed, i promise but my ears are always open if you wish to talk about anything. ā ziyi offered,Ā a small gesture of sincerity she hoped heād recognize.Ā
āĀ itās really late,Ā i assume youāre right and he mustāve retired already . āĀ the sultan didnāt seem bothered about it so she wouldnāt worry about it too much as well.Ā however,Ā the thing she indeed had to worry about was to bring him to his chambers unharmed,Ā which turned out to be a difficult task considering her lack of strength and his lack of bodily control. ā my sister ? which one ? ā she turned to him,Ā both of her arms holding onto him tightly as she was too scared that heād fall or perhaps walk against a wall. ā i mean theyāre all smart but iām not too sure how they could be of help ? unless one of them has a map of that place . ā
a hardly threatening but audible gasp sounds in the air between them, the sultan gives the other a gentle yet playfully pointed look, one that a father might give their misbehaving toddler, leaning more against the bannister now out of purpose. "you would be brazen enough to defame the regent of persia in front of his people? for a mere drunken slip after the death of his husband?" he clicks his tongue, sucking in a breath. "i would not have thought the daughter of the emperor to have such a manner about her. though, i must admit, if your sister can put up with the atrocity in which my parents created when my elder brother took his first breath, perhaps i have greatly mistaken the character of all of you." "i...was under the impression that my guard would attend me this evening but much to my dismay, they retired early." the sultan squints in thought but his grin is goofy. "if i knew, would i ask you to aid me in finding them?" a memory finds itself in the back of his mind, the ache it would normally cause drowned out by alcohol; khan would lose his glasses often, a misery for a ruler who could hardly see and his husband with the attention span of a chipmunk - the palace would turn to chaos; they would argue in the hall of mirrors; he would scold him in a gentle and fond manner for not being cautious enough until they would realize that they had been in the library the entire time where their adventure had started. his smile falters for only a moment. they would never tire of laughing at it, their simple chuckles extending to the bedroom as the sun set still, as if it had happened minutes and not hours before. "perhaps, the key is to find your sister instead." he mumbles, take the extended arm.

ā that is very kind of you,Ā your highness. āĀ she bowed slightly,Ā relief washing over her as she feared about possible expenses.Ā ā however,Ā i cannot take this favor without repaying you.Ā if there is anything you need,Ā please let me know.Ā and it seems as if youāre quite a skilled painter.Ā i might provide you with colors extracted from flowers,Ā as vibrant as this one. āĀ mioara suggested,Ā hoping that the princess would accept her offer so the burden wouldnāt feel so heavy.Ā āĀ oh,Ā itās not for me but for a friend.Ā this flower can be used to treat infections. at least that is what iāve heard. āĀ she muttered,Ā carefully plucking the flower and placing it into her small basket. āĀ thank you,Ā your highness but iām not completely without conscious.Ā perhaps we could find something else for you to draw ? ā
" oh, i would not be bothered if you kept it nor would i accuse you of such ! " kai-ming exclaimed, never wanting someone to think she would accuse them of stealing. let alone, stealing something as simple as a skirt. " truly, i am not worried about it, i'm sure someone in my staff knows how to remove such a stain and if not ā it is of no loss to me. " the princess smiled at her.
she looked down at the flower she had been drawing, " urgently ? whatever for ? " kai-ming asked curiously, " ā but yes, of course, please take it ! if you need it, don't let me be in the way. again. "

there was a certain oddness about him she couldnāt grasp,Ā invisible and lingering in the air.Ā it was the way how every gesture always seemed to last a split second too long,Ā long enough that it drew her suspicion but easily disrupted by his words which appeared harmless.Ā perhaps she was paranoid,Ā shaped this way due to a past that still haunted her,Ā but marcia was looking for something,Ā a proof that would free her from it and soothe her with the confirmation of being right.Ā so it was only natural when her body tensed immediately when she thought sheād discovered a secret only to be disappointed when the ambiguity of his statement quickly dissolved with his following words.Ā ā a hunting partner ? is he also from spain or did this gathering bring you together again ? i hope he isnāt feeling too bad,Ā i could send a doctor.Ā or maybe see him,Ā i do know some things about herbs which might help him with his hangover. ā she suggested.
āĀ that is too bad,Ā my crow could have used a friend.Ā they should meet some time. āĀ did crows even needed them, she wasnāt sure about that.Ā ā is your wife taking care of your pet ? or is she with you, i havenāt seen her around. āĀ she was glad about some idle chatter andĀ taking a break from all those lies.Ā ā truth to be told,Ā i donāt think heāll return or if he even considered me a safe place,Ā he wouldnāt have escaped if he did ⦠but do not worry,Ā i am of course paying you for your help. āĀ
He held her gaze for a quiet moment, looking for any sign of suspicion in her eyes. When he found nothing he finally spoke - āreturning from meeting someone.ā The easiest lie was at the tip of his tongue, but he refused to imply any sort of infidelity against his wife. āAn old friend and hunting partner of mine. We have not seen each-other since we were boys and the drinks were flowing quicker than he could handle. His servants are now putting him to bed.ā
He smiled at her question āI have not. I suspect the distance travelled would have confused it too much. We can only hope your own crow has not decided to try and find its way home. It may work in our favor, I have heard they are a rather intelligent bird, so I perhaps once it realizes it does not know where it is it will return to the last safe place it knew.ā

her first instinct was to feign innocence,Ā turn around with utter terror that someone would even accuse someone like her of such an act.Ā yet,Ā the bold and rightfully truthful claim was now hanging in the air,Ā leaving her run out of any lie.Ā ā so what do you wish to do about it ? tell them and iāll tell youāre in this with me. ā the shame she was supposed to feel and would when the night settled barely got through her,Ā the tension in her body hindering from any emotions breaking through her voice,Ā ā unfortunately, i do not come from a family who is particularly known for their morals nor do i feel the need to answer that question as i doubt youād believe me anyway.Ā so why donāt we put this small matter aside and iāll also choose to ignore that you were spying on me . āĀ
his husband had left him to his own devices. up against mourning royals and their opposites, rafael was exhausted. his mind had grown weary somewhere between the mughal's sad excuse for a speech and the moment that he'd left the ballroom in search of fresh air. the physician's steps aren't quiet on the red stone, he whistles gently to himself as he makes his way through hall after hall, stopping curiously when light eyes perch upon the scene of a woman, eavesdropping on the eve of a memoriam. the tension seemed to have thickened the air andĀ the disrupture of her steady breathing suddenly appeared so evident.Ā marcia never cared about ranks or feigned politeness,Ā besides the sultana wasnāt too polite either ,Ā yet she knew that the act of innocence would always be more suitable to lessen the suspicion instead of getting defensive right now. Ā āĀ i am sure the situation must appear to be quite odd, ā she forced a smile, biting her tongueĀ ā but i think these people might have stolen my bird,Ā however,Ā as you know false accusations are not taken upon kindly and i needed to assure that i wasnāt wrong before confronting them . however,Ā i am curious why you decided to go here,Ā were you looking for something ? āĀ
ferah had tried for a time to enjoy herself. she tried to enjoy the food, at least, in the grand ballroom shrinking back from the sheer amount of bodies and opulence that surrounded them. true, they hadn't expected a great mourning service but something aside from a speech that lasted for not even a few minutes before it seemed they were all expected to drink the night away. ducking out of the ballroom into the corridors in search of something, they didn't know what yet, that didn't feel like a show of glimmering wealth took them through the darkened halls, stumbling onto the princess purely by chance. the art gallery has been a place ziyi had avoided ever since her arrival,Ā convincing herself that watching kai-ming paint was enough and would satisfy her curiosity of what the mughal empire had to offer.Ā ziyi knew that she wasnāt in the state to do more than that as simply looking at an art piece alone was enough to evoke all the emotions that sheād buried in a desperate attempt a long time ago.Ā yet,Ā as soon as the interview was over all she wanted was to talk to her sister,Ā make sure that giuliana was well and perhaps even try to convince herself that she was fine as long as she was reminded of the presence of giuliana.Ā luckily,Ā it only took a couple of questions breathed in panic and a couple of guards quickly found giuliana,Ā pulling her into a hug as soon as she spoke to her.Ā āĀ me,Ā too.Ā i was looking for you everywhere.Ā how are you ? especially after that particularĀ āinterviewā . āĀ ziyi asked releasing her from her tight embrace as she spotted her sisterās mood in her words.Ā ā and iāve foolishly believed that being here would be a distraction to everything going on at home ⦠do you wish to go home ? maybe i can find a way ⦠ā

on the outside, giuliana was the picture of grace and calm. the inside was a very different matter, but she herself could not think too much to peel apart the webs. that was part of what drove her to this quiet part of the galleries, where she was able to watch someone sketch in real life. her gaze drawn to the method of the charcoal over the canvas, how the shadows formed, how the light was let in. she let herself breathe as she observed, spine straight, hands clasped in her lap. she fidgeted with her signet ring out of where it could be seen. although usually in a higher spirit, she could not fathom socialising more ā so when someone came to approach her, she was relieved when it was her family. having indulged in a bit too much of a drink,Ā noeās steps had long lost any grace with laughter constantly falling from her lips . it'd been way too long since she'd had some fun and as so many guests,Ā sheād forgotten the purpose of the memoriam.Ā instead,Ā eyes sparking with a mischievous glint were surveying the grand hall,Ā spotting the chinese bodyguard who appeared to have less fun than noemi did.Ā being so clouded by her intoxication and chained by delusion,Ā noemi felt it was her need to somehow entertain the other and so she wobbled to him,Ā calling out for him with a giggle.Ā ā thatās fine,Ā itās about the feeling and not technique. ā she gestured,Ā awkward limbs moving to the music . ā itās a secret german dance,Ā created by yours truly. ā noe giggled and curtseyed,Ā her vision blurring as she looked up again.Ā ā and you are going to be my first student ! what a honor i know, i know ! and actually, youāre mistaken,Ā in fact youāre the only one who fits the criteria to learn that special dance.Ā i see the passion burning in your eyes,Ā so would you be so kind and grant me this dance ? ā
Open
A night off only means the bodyguard is less guarding and more skulking. Keeping a close eye on the imperial family only as a perfect excuse to keep an eye, also, on everyone else in the ballroom. Or so he tries. Right now, he has been intercepted by an individual who may or may have not indulged in more drinks than they could tolerate. He tries to escape with a courteous and modest smile, keeping a prudent distance. "Regrettably, I am unfamiliar with this form of dancing," or most forms of dancing, for that matter. He was a decent singer, had a neat calligraphy and could fly a kite beautifully, but dancing was far from his preferred form of artistic expression. Nor his preferred form of mourning. "I am certain you will find a more suited companionā"

a subtle tension was coiling in her stomach,Ā marciaās instincts tingling with suspicion as she observed the other,Ā looking so innocent with the bouquet of flowers resting on her arm.Ā someone like her had no business lurking in the shadows and yet she was standing there,Ā enrapturing with her pretty voice and silky hair,Ā perfectly capturing the act of an innocent flower girl.Ā drawing closer, marcia feigned interest in the floral arrangement,Ā yet her eyes were searching for something she might be hiding,Ā perhaps a knife or a dagger.Ā ā what are those flowers for ? ā she asked,Ā ā and why are you walking around in that dark corridor.Ā you should be careful, Ā something might happen to you . āĀ her stare never leaving the potential threat.Ā why was she questioning marcia at the first place ?Ā sparking the sudden urge to defend her made up crow.Ā ā i think crows are severely misunderstood animals,Ā they are quite intelligent and know how to behave,Ā so i wasnāt too afraid theyād cause any trouble.Ā and why shouldnāt my dear pet crow be allowed to eat some fruit ? ā the princess cleared her throat,Ā now certain that the scottish must be a spy.Ā ā if you were a crow ? it seems like you can quite relate to crows,Ā you must also like to hide in thickets. ā she tried to wrap her words in a layer of a joke,Ā but distrust bled through it. Ā ā would you be so kind and help me to look outside ? ā
"oh, goodness gracious." karolina flips their hand to cover their mouth, a bouquet of flowers resting in the crook of their elbow. they know a queen when they see one ( or someone wishing to be ), having been around enough of that flowing energy to last them several lifetimes. they dip a low curtsey as they are approached, then glance up towards her thunderous, intense expression. "your grace." keeping it demure, keeping it an undertone. they don't want to be seen as incredibly disrespectful, even by some accident. ( lest one befalls them. ) "that is wildly brave of you, your grace. to bring a crow here, into this palace, where i'm sure it would be delighted to feast at the table of fruits." ( there is some semblance of doubt, but that isn't karolina's concern. it thrills them to be a part of something. ) "maybe it might be there, in the thicket of action? i know what's where i would be, if i was a crow. ... your grace."
