Olaf got a cooling vest!!

I was a little skeptical because it seemed like it would just make him hotter, but after our walk his fur under the vest was cool to the touch. It’s my new favorite gear for him.

Training drills!

Every day we practice our “drills”. Thus far they include down/stay with people walking around and over him, sit/stay with people walking around him and his person being out of sight, “center” with walking forward and backward at his persons pace, “leave it” with food and toys, and “touch” from different positions and distances! 

This serves a couple of purposes: it makes him think through problems (which wears him out much faster than running around), it reinforces cue-behavior match, and it is a good warm-up for learning new tasks. These are all things you can (and in my opinion should!) teach a pet dog too!

Just a reminder….I am STILL seeing people walking their dogs barefoot on the hot pavement. It’s 114 degrees outside right now. I feel like it should be common sense, but if you can’t walk on the hot pavement, NEITHER CAN YOUR DOG!!!!

“Untangle” I swear this is one of the most useful things she knows. Especially being a small dog she is constantly getting the leash wrapped around her legs. I really learned to appreciate it when I was having problems with a herniated disk in my back. All hail the “Untangle”!!!!

[W]hen we think of the dog being spiteful and stubborn, we get angry, as we would at a human. The fact is, dogs aren’t EVER spiteful or stubborn. They do what’s right for them to do at the time - according to their own world view. As you do according to yours. Thinking that they CAN understand but are willfully refusing to obey causes a truckload of problems and gives you no way to solve them.
