As someone that has grown up surrounded by beaches and done surf life saving, I know how the sea works. Lots of people dont. Every summer multiple tourists die here because they don’t respect the sea, if you’re going to the coast, here’s a thing I saw on Facebook.

It can be really subtle too. Maybe you do what I did and handle ALL the finances for a while. Then one day something is stressing you out and they offer to take over for you so you don’t have to feel so stressed out by the money.

Then they suggests you use the envelope method where you only have a set amount of money for expenses (a fine idea but....)

Then maybe there’s a weird withdrawal or two that they brush off.

Then maybe there’s a bank account that you didn’t have before and you don’t get access because “it’s for savings/retirement”.

There’s a lot of really subtle ways this can spiral. I only got out because my “partner” ordered me to go get a job while caring for the kids full time and I got the chance to put it into another account I already had (separate) and play up the “oh I’m so dumb, I forgot our account number”. I got out because I had barely enough money to put down a retainer on a good lawyer. Personal financial stability is important.
