• A mid-tempo, psychedelic-funk number that finds James Mercer honing his falsetto skills and exploring themes of loneliness. Their new album, After the Disco, finds it's release early next year (January 14th). But, it'll probably leak before that, so keep your eyes open.

Maya Jane Coles // "Burning Bright (feat. Kim Ann Foxman)" [I / Am / Me]

• The best part of this version is what we can only describe as foghorns blowing. As Foxman says, "Through the storm...". The sound is miraculous, sexy, and deep. One of the best deep house remixes we've heard this year.

• Touched with the trilling hi-hats of trap, there's a cross-genre slinkiness to these songs that was largely missing in the straight-ahead forms of old...for music that is so frequently intense and hard-hitting, many tracks here possess an impossibly smooth finish.

• Bringing in the big guns on this one, James Welsh turns around a fairly tame bass tune into a tech house grinder. Mid-way through some orchestra strings adds a little sophistication to it and then drops in nicely round bass notes. Play this mid set when everybody's in the groove.

Waze & Odyssey // "Don't Bring Me Down" (Tsuba)

• A neat little EP, named after this title-track, is full of some fiery house. The A1 side is the standout, although it's not pushing any boundaries. It will heat up the dance floor fer sure, driven by its shimmering and beady snare. It has the typical expansive big-house W&O sound and a song structure that is reminiscent of their I Want You You You.
