The Melvins is not yet to be retro.
With an album each year since the 90's, their journey through music has been going on for more then 3 decades and made them able to explore every genre within rock music . Such as doom metal, grunge, psychedelic rock, stoner rock, hardcore punk and many others. And their now playing their new album : « Pinkus Abortion Technician » on a UK tour. An album for which they made the choice of using two bassist, adding the sound of Jeff Pinkus to there band.      Their stop at the Concorde 2 Brighton has been spectacular. « King Buzzo » (Buzz Osborne) is not yet to be retired. Jumping around stage in his eye dress and yelling some mad sounds between songs it seems like he is still enjoying it like the first day. At him we can add the two bassist with the fine touch of Mc Douglas adding lots of slides in his playing who looks as psychedelic as his sound. Plus, the groove keeper Jeff Pinkus who puts the beat down in his tattooed surfer style. But the duo is getting really heavy when they start doubling the line making the crowd uncontrollable. Furthermore, how could this work without Dall Colver opening with one of his angry drum break and singing us the goodbye for closing. The Melvin is been playing a real Melvin gig despite the double bass choice. Mixing heavy sounds like « Break Bread » getting some thunders out in a hardcore punk style. And songs like « Don't forget to breath » which is a total Melvin slow down and tension maker in their own Black Sabbath style. However, we can see Buzz starring at the crowd showing an in-understandable humor, to start one of their previous psychedelic song intro such as the « The Bit » form their album Stag (1996). At which we can ad a furious cover of The Beatles' « Want to hold your hand » putting their own experimentation s into it.      The Melvin still rock stages after 30 years with the same psychedelic low tempos from Seatles grunge scenes embellished by their range of influence and experimentation through the years.
