This one is another interesting occurrence. An intersection did take place, where I offered to make a painting instead of the tattoo. I did warn that to paint in a renaissance style would be costly, so there is no doubt that price factored into the customer's decision, but once again, the totemic quality of the image being a tattoo was a major factor that came up in our discussion. Last time I'll post about this, because this painting, #contextualconceptual no.2, is done. As a reminder, the piece actually has two parts and is an extension of the art project #skininthegame. It's a good deal because for one price you walk away with two artworks.

"The Slow Approach to a Firm Threshold" : today I got to materialize another component of the project #skininthegame . This re-contextualization of local artist @eshipton27 's art work comes from a sheet of Local artist flash that I have created as another opportunity for people to question how we patronize and "collect" art. This re-contextualization was done with the artist's knowledge and permission. I have at least for more sheets of local artist flash to create, so if you are willing to have your work re-contextualized, let me know. #contextualconceptual piece number 2 (update) "Sincere Gesture A+B". The idea comes from the use of tattoo as a means to commemorate an event or emphasize meaningfulness, very often through text, or what is referred to as "script" in tattooing. Whatever is "said" is meant to be a sincere gesture of expression. In this piece I am coupling the idea of that act or "gesture" with the action of Mark making (or gesturing) in painting. Both components talk about the significance of marking (read The mark), but in different ways. This piece is still available.
