You know one of the many things I find endearing about the edge of midnight party is how kind they are to kids. Dispite everything they went through they are very kind and helpful people even in the face of hostility from suspicious towns folk but I just find the way they interact with children to be oddly wholesome.

For example, when Jericho found the girl/doll and realised she was cold he tried to warm it up and even covered its eyes so it couldn’t see the scary bag that killed her when she was human.

When the party returned to the Mirabels destroyed house and find Colette in complete shock by the body of her dead farther, Marius despite his curse and being surrounded by blood pushed through his instincts and rushed to the girl to comfort her and then picked her up to carry her to safety.

Lethica casting call emotions quite a few times to make sure to sooth their nerves and anxiety’s before asking them what’s wrong so they can figure out the issue and solve it to the best of their ability’s.

Then you have Ferryn giving a little girl a knife to defend herself, she’s confused but her intentions were pure so there’s that at least.

Not to mention Yorgrims almost farther daughter like dynamic with Anya (it’s a shame that things turned out the way they did but still Yorgrims compassion and fondness was genuine)

Those are just the ones I can remember at the top of my head I know they’re so many more but still.

IT IS DONE YIPPEE!!! 🎉🎉🎉 and now that it's done, i've decided to post it all together along with doing some mild touch up to past pages.

This was a ride to make and i'm extremely excited with all i have learned through the making of this comic >w<!! I'm not sure when this might happen, but you bet i'll be making more. edge of midnight is so good. its very sweet how jericho mentioning the sight of a lot of blood was 'a trigger' for marius was just a throwaway joke at first, but then later in the campaign when marius is Very Clearly Struggling at the sight of a lot of blood, jericho steps in as a visual barrier and offers him an out for the situation!! what was a joke based on an offhand observation became part of the relationship of care between the two of them!!! legends of avantris you will always be famous

Marius Renathyr to me is guy of all time. He's a knight. He's quested for almost a century due to a promise he made as a barely 20 something year old to his best friend who is also his king. He is a victim of assault and is a case on the lasting traumatic and psychological effects that can leave on a person. He's got a crush on maybe the hottest woman alive and he isn't fumbling but he is but he isn't but he is. He literally cannot be normal about his platonic relationships with people, he will form a bond that lasts until death with people he met that day and will kill everyone within a 5 mile radius if anything happens to even make his friends upset. He's super kind and cares deeply about everyone all around him. He's hot. He's got like a Stockholm syndrome type dynamic with the demon who cursed him and gave him trauma in the first place. He's got religious trauma, he's got brotherly grief, he's got survivors guilt, he's a martyr, he's deeply complex but also sort of a himbo, he's a vampire, he's going through his emo phase as a like 90 something year old man. He's even a horse girl.

Highly underrated scene, that’s so fucking funny for no fucking reason. And Yorgrim repeating “flameo” or whatever to get the sword to work, with Marius going “that’s not—okay.”

Like. I wish we got more Envy!Yorgrim and Pride!Marius dynamic. Yorgrim and Marius’ dynamic was already very fun, but I even more adore Yorgrim just fucking yoinking Marius’ sword out of his hands mid-battle, and Marius is just mildly confused but also doesn’t question it AT ALL.

Kremy Lecroux

- Kremy gets jealous out of fear of a chance that you’ll find someone better than him 

- It’s not that he doesn’t trust you, he doesn’t trust other people

- Kremy’s been watching some person talk to you from across the tavern for the last 20 minutes, completely ignoring whatever Gideon was talking about

- His grip on the glass in his hand is tight (if his knuckles could turn white they would) he wants nothing more than to Eldrich blast that person straight through the 9 hells

- If you look uncomfortable or nervously look his way, he’s crossing the room in quick long steps

Kremy sets a hand on the person’s shoulder. “You best be careful who you talk to, friend. We wouldn’t want something to happen to you now, would we?” 

“Are you threatening me?”

“That depends.” Kremy leans closer to him, shadows shifting around him as he does. If he could, ominous jazz music would start playing. “Do you feel threatened?” Safe to say they won’t be bothering you again and Kremy then refuses to leave your side for the rest of your time there, making sure no one else decides to approach you.

Gideon Coal

- Gideon doesn’t get jealous often he’s confident that he’s got you stuck with him he just can’t stand other people touching you when he’s right there 

- Gideon had barely left you alone when someone approached, clearly flirting with you while you were just waiting for the genasi to return with new drinks

- He comes back with your new drink and finds the person placing a hand on your arm, trying to convince you that they could show you a good time when Gideon’s figure looms behind him

- He’s glaring holes into the back of the person’s head the whole time

 “If you want to keep your bones inside your body I suggest you get your hand off of them.” Gideon roughly grips the man’s shoulder. The person does let you go but whips around to start yelling till they sees Gideon’s larger frame now in front of them. “Walk away.” Gideon holds their stare.  When the person’s gone Gideon’s instantly looking at you, “That person comes back I’m not gonna warn him imma just hit ‘em.”

You smile as he holds out your drink to you, sitting beside you with an arm around your shoulders, every once and a while you find him glaring at the person from your seats.

Morning Frost

- Frost thinks he’s beyond jealousy until he meets you and sees how other people act around you 

- Frost simply crushes their mind-kidding kidding but he does consider it

- Won’t even acknowledge the person at first as he approaches you, wrapping his arms around you

- He’ll stare the person down while  he nuzzles into your neck 

The person quickly moves on to the next person they can flirt with while Frost nips at your neck. “Jealous Frost?” You tease and he just huffs, bumping his head against yours. 

“It’s remarkable that they thought they had a chance of taking you from me.” Frost shakes his head. “I wanted to endeavor to crush his mind but Kremy said we’re lying low.”  

“Well than thank you for not crushing their mind.”

Gricko Grimgrin

- Gricko’s jealousy is very clear when he sees people flirting with you

- Will pull a classic and kick them in the shins of tie their laces together while they’re focused on you

- Gricko doesn’t address the person after that, instead literally asking for uppies just so he can kiss you and make a point

“I missed you.” He mumbles, kissing you as he holds your face with both hands. The person who you had previously been chatting with awkwardly moves away from you seeing your Goblin other half. “Are they gone?” He smiles, eyes roaming around your face, taking you in. 

“Very gone.” You reply, meeting his eyes with a small smile. “Jealous much?” Gricko shakes his head. 

“Had to make sure that scamp knew you were with me.” 

Torbek

- Torbek stays quiet about being jealous but you know enough about him to be able to tell 

- Torbek will sit quietly, fidgeting with his hands as he watches someone flirt with you

- You don’t hesitate to ditch the person after spotting the sad bugbear

“Torbek Knows he's Just a bugbear. And you are very pretty. But please don't leave torbek for them.” Torbek doesn't look at you as he talks.

You reach out and set your hand on his head in the hopes of calming him down. “I'm not going anywhere Torbek. You're stuck with me,” you assure him gaining a smile from the bugbear.

Comforting Reader After A Nightmare

Note(s): Absolutely! I'm going to split it into two parts (one for CR1 guys and one for CR2)!

Grog

Probably doesn’t realize you woke up from a nightmare at first. He’s sound asleep still, snoring away like a tank. 

Would end up waking up at hearing your sniffling or you moving around a lot to try and get comfortable again. 

He’d see you crying and go into protective mode instantly. He’d want to know what happened, who hurt you, and why you didn’t wake him up previously.

Grog would listen as you tell him it was a nightmare that caused your current state. Grog would nod and tell you that he used to have nightmares all the time before he states that he’ll dream with you this time.

Like this time you both will be dreaming together so he’ll keep you safe in your dream and in real life. It’s a very sweet gesture from Grog and he is very eager about it that you can’t help but feel better.

Percy

Percy is pretty cranky when his sleep gets interrupted so he’s ready to have some biting remark when he’s pulled awake from your tossing and turning.

The remark disappears when he sees the state you’re in. The shaking and scared expression on his face. Percy is smart and can piece together what happened considering you both were just sleeping.

“I’ve got you, my love,” he’d say as he would hold you close and press his forehead to yours.

Percy isn’t the best at comforting others but he will try for you. He has gone through his fair share of nightmares after what happened with his family and the Briarwoods and he knows that the loneliness didn’t help.

So he’s not going to let you be alone now. He’s holding you close and while he might not say much, he is giving you that contact to let you know that he is there.

Scanlan

Scanlan also doesn’t wake up immediately but eventually does with your tossing and turning. He is still half asleep when he does wake up but seeing the tearstains on your cheek causes him to become wide awake.

He’ll ask you what happened as he reaches to find some kind of tissue or maybe just use the sheets to wipe your tears. He’s not lazy, he just doesn’t want to leave your side.

He’ll begin humming in hopes that calms you down. He would grab his lyre but it’s late and he is afraid of making lots of mistakes due to just waking up.

Just going to pepper kisses on your forehead and cheeks while humming some tune. 

Maybe give you some Bardic Inspiration as well in hopes that calms you down. A Song of Rest does sound perfect right now.

Vax

He's up instantly when he hears you wake up. He's got those rogue senses.

He notices you seem shaken and he'll take a hold of one of your hands, placing a kiss on the back and asking what's wrong.

He'll pet your head and play with your hair as he's listening. He'll offer to braid your hair too as a way to help relax you.

He admits that he has had many nightmares that had been difficult to deal with alone but promises that he is with you and nothing is going to harm you because he is here.

He'll gladly hold you close and whisper some Elvish as a promise that he won't leave you and that you are his soul and he's not giving you up without a fight.

Grog

So how do you use the bathroom? That's like question number 1 he would ask you. How do you poop?

Can you breath? Like is air a thing you can breath? Grog isn't the brightest but he doesn't want to accidentally kill his half fish friend.

Grog finds your tail and gills really cool. Super cool. How do you walk?

Definitely offers you ale. Ale is something you both have in common right? Also it could make you less shy.

Grog probably doesn't understand the concept of shy. Like you're quiet and don't like people? Get drunk you'll be fine.

Keyleth

Okay but Keyleth is so interested in you.

Mermaids are so cool. Like where are you from? How are you doing? Are you amazing at singing?

Probably gets upset with herself cause she's asking you lots of Siren v. Mermaid questions and realizing she probably seems a bit rude with it all.

You being shy is perfect cause Keyleth... Well she isn't shy! But people are scary. She gets that. So bonding over scary people is something you both do.

Okay but being a mermaid must get lonely cause you don't have legs. Keyleth would love to change into a goldfish or something to give you company in your pool.

Pike

Mom mode is activated.

You’re shy so she’s talking to you in the softest of voices, letting you know that it’s okay and that your tail is gorgeous.

Pike was a sailor so she’s probably seen other mermaids. She’ll ask you if you have family or any friends out there.

If you do then she’ll be happy to send a message or something to them the next time she’s on sea.

Pike is just super sweet and interested in learning about you but she’ll let you open up at your own pace.

Scanlan

I mean, not to be a stereotypical bard but....

So much flirting. When he learns that you’re shy then that’s even better because he’ll make all the comments about how cute you are when you blush.

Of course if he’s with Pike at this point then he’d still flirt but add “Alas I have a wife, unfortunately for you.”

Probably also asks a lot of the “Grog” questions (how do you poop being a number one question that he has).

Would like to learn of your history too. He is a lore bard so he’d be glad to hear from you. He’d be fine with singing you songs too about the lore he’s picked up.

Vax

He’s very interested when he sees that you’re a mermaid but there’s also some hesitance because what if you’re actually a siren? There’s a lot of common traits in both of them.

After getting to know you, Vax will apologize for his initial paranoia. He’s gone through a lot to make him paranoia.

Would like to hear you talk about yourself or what your life is like with being a mermaid. He’d tell you to take your time with opening up.

Initially takes your shyness as you also being paranoia but then realizes that you’re just shy. He does find it cute.

Vax definitely has his questions (how do you poop tho) but keeps them mostly to himself until you’ve opened up more.

Vex

Finds your scales to be lovely. Honestly does her best to make herself look less of a mess because she’s talking to an actual mermaid.

Remember how meticulous Vex was with the pixies? Well you’re a freaking mermaid so she absolutely wants to impress you.

Definitely asks if you would like to share snacks or tea. She’s sure she has some kind of tea set-- actually, maybe not tea.

Vex has so many questions for you but decides to hold them off for a bit because she doesn’t want to make you feel pressured. You’re shy enough without her badgering.

Probably takes Trinket to the side and tells him that you are not a fish and he can’t eat you. It’s a bit concerning.

S/O Taking a Hit and Needing Revived Part 2

Part 1

Note(s): So I did not mean to take so damn long to do the part 2 to this request. I promise I meant to but then it slipped my mind. Here it is (finally) so hopefully it’s enjoyable!

Scanlan

He is so focused on supporting the others and helping with their own stuff that he doesn’t notice the bolt coming towards him.

Let’s out an “oomph” as he’s pushed aside. He turns to you and is about to call you rude, only to freeze when he sees your body fall to the ground.

“Pike!” He is yelling. Yes everyone is still in combat and he’ll still focus on getting out of combat, but you just went down and his healing isn’t doing anything to help you.

After the battle he is holding you and yelling at Pike to hurry up and get over to you. He’s being very impatient but he needs to have you back.

Let’s out a huge sigh of relief as he holds you close before pulling away and giving you a forced smile. “If you wanted my attention, you didn’t need to die on me,” he’d joke but god he was so worried.

Tary

Tary is having Doty keep him safe so he really isn’t worried about being harmed himself, which is his mistake.

He sees you come over and is about to say something only to stop when he sees the look in your eyes before they glaze over and you fall.

Tary is frantic and ordering Doty to keep you both safe while he holds you and is frantically looking through all his patches and such in hopes he has something to save you.

After the battle, he just has tears running down his face as he’s waiting for Pike to heal you. He feels so useless as he’s holding your hand and waiting for you to return to him.

Cries even harder when you’re back. He holds you close to him and is just shaking as he tells you to never do that again.

Vax

He’s the rogue, his job is being the one to sneak around and deliver the killing blow. He didn’t even realize that someone was attempting to do the same to him.

An attempt that is failed as he hears you yell his name. He turns to look behind him only to see you get in the way of a poisoned blade aimed for him.

Vax isn’t a Barbarian, but he is raging as he deals with the attacker before moving your body somewhere safer for the time being. 

After the battle, he is rushing Pike over while praying to The Raven Queen. He already offered her his life for his sister, but there has to be more he can give to have you back.

Whatever deal he sold himself too yet again, he doesn’t care. He is holding you close to him when you’re back and he’s not letting you go for a long while.

Vex

She’s in the back shooting her arrows and casting her spells. Trinket is keeping the attackers off of her, but not all of them.

She turns when she hears a snap of a twig. Vex is very perceptive so she hears it and sees the enemy shooting some kind of spell towards her.

Her heart stops, but not because of the spell. Because you had jumped in the way to save her. Tears fall from her eyes as she shoots the enemy and tries to heal you but it fails. So she tries again and again and nothing is working!

Vex is screaming for Pike as she crumbles to the ground next to you, cradling your head in her lap. She can’t lose you. She’s not going to lose you.

“You had me so worried, darling,” she whispers as she presses her forehead to yours when you’re revived.

“Ooh can I eat these?” Grog would ask as you give him a bouquet of flowers. You explain to him that it’s a gift and so technically he could but they’re really just to show appreciation to him today. He tells you that he thinks they’re very pretty and will eat them daintily just for you.

Keyleth just lets out an adorable little gasp when you gift her the bouquet. She thinks it’s super sweet and is ready to gush about the different flowers you brought her. Probably knows flower language so she’s ready to see what exactly you have to say to her! Will give you a flower crown as your own, cute present.

Percy looks at the bouquet, not quite taking it yet. He hasn’t been gifted flowers in quite a while so he’s thinking how best to react. Of course he lets out a comment about how, “Lilies are so yesterday” but he takes them and gives you a thanks. Would set them in his workshop so he can glance to them when he takes breaks.

“These are pretty!” Pike really enjoys the flowers as you gift them to her. While she is a total badass, she loves being able to feel soft so these definitely put a warmth in her chest. She promises to try to keep these alive as long as she can.

Scanlan takes the flowers with a wide grin as he makes a comment like, “I knew you couldn’t resist me!” before bringing out his own present. He probably gifts you with a piece of jewelry that he thinks matches your eyes. But he gladly takes the flowers and uses them to hide the fact that he is a blushing mess at the cuteness of the gift.

“What’s the occasion, peach?” Vax would ask when you hold the bouquet to him. A soft smile is on his face because this is a sweet gift and he loves it. He honestly forgot about the holiday so he feels a tad guilty you got him a gift and he didn’t. So he gratefully takes the bouquet and grabs a flower out of it to put behind your ear.

Vex is torn between asking if you got a deal on them or if you made sure to get her the most expensive flowers. She deserves expensive, but gold should also be hoarded. So instead of asking she just gives you a bright smile and presses a kiss to your cheek as thanks.

Scanlan

I mean, Scanlan flirts with anything that has legs (and can give consent). Confessing to him feels like trying to survive a jump from a cliff as a goldfish. Who's to say he'd even feel the same, right?

Except you confessing your feelings to him catches him so off guard because he always flirts and keeps everyone else at a distance. So the fact that you're confessing to him, he is amazed he didn't chase you off with how he is.

But he's ecstatic. He's not used to romantic dates and stuff like that, but he'll definitely try! Well, he'll try for you anyway. 

Can't stop himself from flirting with you still, he tries to hold off on the more risque stuff though as this is actually real and not just him wanting to have a fun night.
