Well, from what I’ve heard, they’ve always had one. I’ve been told there’s always been one man they could count on.

COMMEMORATIVE MESSAGE ON THE PASSING OF TSGT. DONALD MALARKEY, USA (Ret.)
Ladies and gentlemen, to all the people of the United States of America and Canada, to all our remaining living veterans of the Second World War of 1939-1945 and of all conflicts past and present and their families, to our veterans, active servicemen and women, reservists and families of the entire United States Armed Forces and the Canadian Armed Forces, and to all the uniformed military and civil security services of the Allied combatants of this conflict, to all the immediate families, relatives, children and grandchildren of the deceased veterans, fallen service personnel and wounded personnel of our military services and civil uniformed security and civil defense services, to all our workers, farmers and intellectuals, to our youth and personnel serving in youth uniformed and cadet organizations and all our athletes, coaches, judges, sports trainers and sports officials, and to all our sports fans, to all our workers of culture, music, traditional arts and the theatrical arts, radio, television, digital media and social media, cinema, heavy and light industry, agriculture, business, tourism and the press, and to all our people of the free world:
Today I send my profound condolences to all of you as we mourn the passing of one of the last living East Company veterans: our late TSGT Donald Malarkey, who died today 1 October 2017 at the age of 96 (played by Scott Grimes in the 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers). The name of Donald Malarkey, who served in the rolls of that vanguard company within the 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR, 3rd BCT, 101st Airbrone Division (Air Assault), XVIII Airborne Corps, United States Army, which fought from Normandy up to the Austrian-German border, will forever be remembered as one who served his country with pride and distinction, even risking losing his friends in the battlefield just to focus on his duty for the defense of the liberty and independence of the United States of America and of the free world.
With deep sadness, as we mourn his passing, may we always remember him and his Easy Company buddies who have passed before us and always carry on the legacy of the motto of the 506th: “We Stand Alone Together”.
Forever shall his legacy of service to the country in our Armed Forces remain in the hearts of the very people who years ago he pledged to defend up to the last moments of his life.
John Ramos
