Hell and back. That's exactly what Blade was used to when it came to fighting the living creatures of the night in vampires. Didn't matter if the foe was Dracula, Deacon Frost, Varnae, or some other ancient evil creature or figure who was hellbent on having their way with the universe. As much as Blade had never asked for the darkness that came with being a dhampir, he was going to fight like hell to ensure that the most vile and evil of his kind would never see the light of day nor hurt another innocent soul so long as he around. That's what he usually would do on your typical average night of vampire hunting, but recently the game had changed. The timestream had been completely broken wide the fuck open thanks to not just one, but two Dooms, which already sounded like a migraine and a half when it came to dealing with that damn dictator. But when Blade learned of the news that Dracula had made a deal with Doctor Doom in order to acquire this unknown new source of power called Chronovium and turned out the sun in New York, the Daywalker knew he had to jump into action in order to stop his greatest foe from delivering grand with his plans. Even though he did team up with Spider-Man and the Human Torch and they put up an amazing effort to kill as many vampires as he possibly could, the overbearing army of unlimited vampires eventually overcame them, and Blade bought the other two necessary heroes time to escape, even if it came at the cost of his capture.
Now Blade had been a prisoner before (hell, he'd been locked up an insane asylum at one point before too), but whatever dark spell the Dark Lord had cast upon him to constrain him felt like pure hell and anguish. Surely death would have been a far more suiting end for Dracula's greatest foe, but Drac always had way too much pride to kill off his greatest foes when he enjoyed just watching them suffer in his lair, the sickest thrills being found in the pain of his enemies. Typical super villain activity, right? And though Blade felt like he'd been there for months, it wasn't long before the Fantastic Four and Squirrel Girl alongside the other heroes had finally come to his rescue, with Strange using his advanced magical spells to free Blade from his imprisonment. The Daywalker was as tough as they came, especially when you factored his healing factor into things, but sometimes being constrained to one spot by dark magic could really take its toll on anybody, and even Blade's healing factor at times had its limits. As soon as Blade was freed from his chains, he almost immediately blacked out on the spot, prompting a frenzied and emergency response from Strange and the others to get the vampire hunter someplace safe. It didn't matter where or when, but any place was better than here right now.
For several weeks, Blade didn't fully wake up. There were times where he'd grunt, toss and turn in his sleep, but he never quite fully opened his eyes. No matter how comfortable his digs were, the PTSD of that fight managed to stick with him for a great while. Low roars, grunts, and growls would emanate from his lips while his facial expressions would show pained looks on his face, balling his fists together and even gripping that Sword of Dracula that the Daywalker managed to acquire from his greatest foe before Doom put Dracula out of his misery for the time being. Until one day, Blade managed to push the pain completely to the side and sat up immediately reaching for his sword and swung it at the first person he saw, and almost immediately sparks clashed directly off of the collision of metal. Confusion set into the vampire hunter's eyes immediately, just as did confusion in the other person's eyes at the same time.
"Psylocke? You look different. Been a minute," Blade finally spoke after they held each other's gaze for a moment. Something about her felt so damn familiar and yet, this wasn't quite a look he'd seen her wear before. A beret, dressed completely in red, with scrolls attached to her hip, and a braided ponytail...was this even the same Psylocke he knew?
"I'm not quite the Psylocke you know, Blade. My name is Sai, and I come from an earlier era of Japan that predates your era by several centuries," the telepathic ninja explained, accidentally picking up on his thoughts inadvertently. She sheathed her sword once it was determined that there was no reason for her to have it drawn anymore. "It pleases me that you've finally managed to heal from your wounds and join us back amongst the living. Moon Knight was afraid that you weren't going to make it after he put a team together to save you." Of course, Sai thought differently of such doubt, and it felt great to be proven right.
"Moon Knight? Surprised he managed to talk you into a deal, but I guess if you're a hunter like me, it doesn't take much," Blade shrugged, wincing his eye a bit as he put his sword to the side for a moment trying to find the energy to actually sit up. "Know where the hell I am by any chance?"
"You are in Wakanda. Or, the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda to be more exact, out in space. We couldn't decide where would be the best place to keep you safe, so T'Challa volunteered to keep you here and allow you the safe space you deserved to recover from your bout with Blade. For the last 21 days I have visited you to ensure that you would make a full recovery. It is nice to see that my faith has ultimately been rewarded," Sai commented, setting the hat on her head to the side of Blade's pillow, dropping to her knees at his bedside. "The greatest of hunters do not go quietly."
Yeah, she had a good point there. And much like the Psylocke he knew, she was just as melodramatic with her straightforwardness. "You know that's right. It'll be a cold day in hell if I ever go out like this. A little setback never hurt anybody. This one just hurts like fucking hell more than my other setbacks," he winced, still holding his chest and shoulder in pain; it was taking all of his willpower to even sit up right now. Pride always went before a fall, and unfortunately for Eric Brooks, it was something he possessed way too much of. "Can't believe I'm in some space version of Wakanda. Probably in the future too. I heard some rumblings of that from Spider-Man myself, but I never thought I'd actually find myself here. Doom really fucked everything up if he's got timelines and worlds all crossed over," he shook his head, moving his legs over to get out of bed, but with a simple push of her palm to his pec muscle, Blade winced and showed his fangs in retaliation towards Sai.
"You are not fit for combat just yet, Eric. I could take you out with merely a breath of the wind, and you would fall. Rest," Sai ordered, pushing his chest with her hands until Blade fell down onto the bed again. Better awake than dead this time at least, right? In all of her infinite curiosity, Sai crawled onto the bed on top of Blade, perching herself comfortably right over his stomach and crotch area, her eyes meeting his own. "These worlds that I have encountered in what you would refer to as the modern day, they intrigue me. As much as I would prefer to go back home to my own time, I fear that such a dream may be slipping through my fingertips. But the home that I currently have on Krakoa right now will have to do."
"You must be feeling right at home sitting on an injured man trying to recover too," Blade stated, his sarcasm slightly showing its own fangs, but no venom behind it. "I'd tell you to just call me Blade since you don't know me like that either, but just because you've been keeping me company for the past few weeks, I'll let that shit slide for you and you only, but don't go telling everybody about it." Sai responded in kind by sliding her body upwards onto his, proceeding to lay and rest her head on his chest. Though he should have been wincing in pain, it felt...comforting in a sense. The two of them had no connection to each other whatsoever, outside of being the best damn hunters their timelines had ever seen, and Moon Knight's crazy ass putting together a merry band of hunters to hunt and kill vampires. With the strength that he could muster up, the Daywalker wrapped his free right arm around her body, leaving his hand firmly in the middle of her back. It seemed as if exhaustion had set in for the ninja as well, because with those enhanced senses of his, he could pick up light snoring sounds emanating from Sai's nostrils, and even her heartbeat had managed to slow itself to a nice, steady, rate. Now felt like as good a time as ever to go back to sleep at this point, right?
"Thanks Sai, I owe you."
For what? she asked telepathically.
For giving a damn about me.
