Julian flushed, embarrassed. "She insisted." He admitted. Julian definitely wasn't well known for avoiding trouble. It was no surprise that Mazelinka had given him a map.
Julian smirked. It was true that he was self sacrificial. If Asra and him were to run into trouble, he was almost certain that he would sacrifice himself if it meant that Asra got away safely.
Hopefully, though, it wouldn't come to that. After all, Julian was looking forward to this trip and the answers to what the items meant and how they got to Vesuvia of all places. Surely, it couldn't have been planned, right! Even with magic, it seemed impossible to Julian for someone to control the ocean to carry a leather bag to a specific place... Okay, it seemed more and more believable as he continued to think about the possibility.

Julian stood in the market of Vesuvia. Most of the shop owners knew him well. "Ilya! Have you come for some leeches?" The Leech Dealer called from his small shop in the corner. One that everyone else was making a point of avoiding.
"Tempting! Very tempting!" Julian said with his usual rowdy grin, "But I didn't bring enough dubloons today. Sorry."
The Leech Dealer smiled and waved his hand. "No worries! Have a great day, Ilya!" He smiled and said. Julian nodded.
On any normal day, Julian would have been glad to buy a leech or two. But today was different. His gaze fell upon a small shop with blue and purple cloths. "Aha!" Julian said, adopting a mischievous smirk. He walked over to the shop and began browsing the many fabrics lining the walls.
Blues and purples. Greens and reds. Silvers and golds. A variety of colored scarves as vibrant as the rainbow itself. "Hmm..." Julian sighed as he focused on finding something nice.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a dark blue scarf with silver specks peppered throughout the fabric. It had gold tassels and seems to shine like the night sky.
He walked over to examine the radiant scarf more closely. He ran his hand over the fabric and through the small, silky tassels lining the edges.
"It's so silky! This is perfect." He picked the scarf up and carried it over to the shopkeeper to purchase it. His eyes twinkled with excitement. "Do you take dubloons?" He asked as he searched his pockets and pulled out a hefty handful of golden coins. After purchasing the scarf he left the shop with a spring in his step. He bounded toward a small, narrow street where a familiar shop stood.
Rather than knocking, he simply picked the lock and went inside. "Asra!" He called quite loudly as he searched the shop for the magician, "Asra, I have something for you! Asra-!"

Julian's eyes glittered with excitement. "Ah! Finding it is just half of the fun, my dear magician!" He said, mischief showing clear in his eyes, "What's an adventure if you don't get a little lost?"
He knew that getting too lost would likely result in having to come back though. Luckily, Mazelinka had given him a coordinates map when he mentioned the adventure. She had a bunch of them.
"But getting too lost could end badly, so I did make sure to get a map from Mazelinka." Julian said proudly. He hadn't actually requested the map, Mazelinka gave it to him insisting that he stay out of too much trouble.

Julian remained hugging Asra while he shifted to turn off the stove. Whining softly in disapproval. He became much happier when Asra continued the hug.
Julian smirked. Mischief clear as stars in his eyes. "No plans?" He asked, "How about we take a trip?" His smirk was filled with mischief and excitement.
"Found something interesting at the docks." He explained, "Mazelinka said she would go but she already has plans. She left town today for a trip of her own."
Julian's eyes lit up. "I would ask Pasha, but she's working at the palace still." He said, "Plus, I think you would enjoy it a lot more than Mazelinka or Pasha ever would!" Julian winked, moving just enough to reach into his pocket. Still keeping the same closeness between him and Asra.
He pulled out an old handmirror with an engraving on the back. Coordinates. "Pretty, huh?" He said, "It was in a small sack, along with this!" He held up an emerald necklace with a tag on the chain. A single word is written on the tag: 'Arcana'.
Julian's eyes shone with excitement. "Isn't that what you call your cards? The one's that tell the future?" He never was good at knowing terms or details about magic, but he had heard Asra call them The Arcana many times, so it stuck.

Julian grumbled in disapproval. If Asra moved, Julian wouldn't stop him, per se, but he wouldn't let go either. "Darn." He replied. He had hoped that the salamander was capable of putting the flames out.
Julian sighed contentedly as he continued to keep Asra wrapped in the hug. He didn't want time to pass at all. Could magic actually stop time, he wondered. Probably too risky to test it.
He got the sudden urge to ask Asra something, and of course he did. When did Julian ever remain silent?
"I'm curious Asra. Do you have any adventures planned?" He asked. Part of him hoped that Asra did, and that he could join him. Julian always enjoyed a good adventure! Magic related or not.
Though, if Asra didn't have plans, Julian had an idea in mind and hoped to bring Asra along.
All the while, however, he kept the handsome magician wrapped in a firm hug, refusing to let go.

Julian smiled. "Of course it is!" He said proudly, "What other magicians do I talk to? Especially ones with a sense of style!"
Julian hoped that the kettle would remain silent until the hug was over. "Hey, Asra." He said mischievously, "That salamander you mentioned, it wouldn't happen to be able to turn the stove off, now would it?" He smirked, waiting for an answer.
Sure it wasn't a normal ability of a salamander, but when did magic obey the rules? He thought.
Julian didn't want to heat the water too much and have to hear the kettle, but he definitely didn't want to end the hug anytime too soon. Besides the water could always be reboiled.

Julian smiled and returned the hug without hesitation. He couldn't remember the last time he hugged someone except Portia who practically demanded hugs. It felt nice to hug someone again... especially Asra.
"I think I am partial too." He admitted, "I much prefer hugging magicians with a great sense of style... ones who easily pull off styles of clothing that not many are able to!" Julian smiled a bit.
He could continue being dramatic and make his legs go limp, falling onto Asra and likely making them both topple to the ground, likely as a tangled heap of limbs. He couldn't deny how amusing it would be. And it would give the doctor an excuse to continue wrapping Asra in a hug.
But he decided that he wouldn't do that. He didn't want to startle Asra and he especially didn't want to flatten the magician. Though, he wouldn't mind Asra flattening him.

Julian did his best to keep from blushing. Maybe- Nope! He was already blushing deeply.
He smirked at Asra. Well, at least he wasn't weirded out my Julian's playful comment. "Well, it depends." He continued, prolonging the dramatic moment, it seemed almost like he was performing with how proudly he spoke.
And he couldn't possibly rush the situation while Asra was so close to him!
"Some call him Dr. Devorak; others call him Julian..." he said, "But to all of his closest friends, his name is Ilya." He winked at Asra, welcoming his hug with open arms.
Though, he was careful about stretching out. The kitchen was small and he certainly didn't want to break anything with his long, skinny arms.

Julian's breath caught at Asra's comment. Partial?! Tall, dark, and handsome?! Doctors?!
His thoughts began to spin in his mind, causing him to be slightly dizzy. He staggered a bit before catching his balance, eyes wide in both shock (from Asra's comment) and panic (from nearly falling).
Surely, Asra wasn't talking about him! Was he?! What if he was? - Julian's thoughts raced and, for a moment, he was afraid to react. Afraid that he was misunderstanding. His mind swam with confusion mixed with hope.
Please don't be a misunderstanding!
He thought before finally reacting. "Well, if you're partial to tall, dark, and handsome doctors..." he said sounding proud, "I know just the doctor you should hug!" He smiled mischievously as he awaited Asra's reaction. Surely, if Asra was wanting a hug from him, he would gladly oblige! How could he refuse this gorgeous magician?

"I- uh!" Julian stammered. His heart skipped a beat (or four) as Asra stepped closer. He wasn't sure what to think of Asra's expression, honestly. Though something told him that he had no choice but to answer the question.
Who knew what Asra might do if he didn't answer.
Julian made a desperate attempt to casually hide his face with his bangs. A wasted effort.
"I- I do!" He admitted, "Like hugs! I do like hugs..." Perfect, he thought, he was sure his feelings were now obvious to Asra. He swallowed hard, hoping that if Asra did know how he felt now, he wouldn't hate him.
Was it wrong for him to fall in love with the attractive magician? He thought, worriedly.

Julian smiled and placed the kettle over the fire. He had somewhat adapted to magic, though he still feared some parts of it. He knew, however, that he could trust Asra to use magic wisely and not to harm others. Asra was always a very careful and considerate person.
His expression softened a bit upon realizing that Faust was asleep. "Phew." He sighed in relief, allowing his shoulder muscles to relax.
He knew Asra knew Faust more than anyone else did, and Julian didn't mind snakes (unlike Portia who was terrified). He just couldn't seem to associate a snake squeezing him to it liking him. After all, don't snakes squeeze their prey?
He smiled slightly. "I appreciate that Faust likes me." He explained, "She's very pretty! I'm just not sure how I feel about the squeezing part..."
He thought that, maybe if Faust didn't try to squeeze him, he and Faust would get along better. He especially would be less afraid of the lavender snake.

Julian took the kettle. "Oh!" Julian said, considering the choice. It was true that asking a salamander to light a stove was unique and sounded like it could be interesting, but Julian wasn't sure how he felt on the idea. "I'll let you know when I need a light." He said. He wasn't very confident in asking the salamander. Asra always seemed so sure when he did things.
Meanwhile, Julian was always conscious and ccareful not to risk too much. He filled the kettle with water and asked Asra to light the fire, ready to begin heating the water to a boil.
Julian always thought Asra's preference of style was unique, and even more interesting than things he had seen. He always enjoyed visiting Asra, but...
Julian remembered Asra's familiar, Faust, and the fact that she tended to squeeze him just a bit too tightly. It always made him behave extra carefully when Faust was nearby.
"Is Faust here?" He asked, obviously nervous, "Should I be cautious? She does like to..." his voice trailed off as he motioned his hand to squeeze his wrist, fear clear on his face.

Julian's face blushed even deeper when Asra teased him, confirming Asra's assumption. "I- uh-" He stammered at a loss for words. He decided that, if he was to keep his embarrassment hidden (if that was even the word for it), he would do well not to be too awkward.
He smiled a bit. "You know Mazelinka." He joked affectionately, "If you don't tell her what someone's like, she'll do an entire background check!" He had always been close to Mazelinka. After all, Portia and him were raised by her back in Nevivon!
Mazelinka, of course, was not nearly as insistent on finding details involving somebody's past. Julian was, as usual, being a bit dramatic on the details. That was, after all, his strong suit!
Julian followed Asra to the kitchen. He had been in the kitchen before, so the size of the room didn't surprise him. He could still remember the first time he had tea with Asra at the shop. He smiled, seeming almost relieved to be there, about to have tea with Asra, rather than at the Rowdy Raven drinking his night away.
He enjoyed his time drinking Salty Bitters and cheating on card games without even playing, but a relaxing evening with Asra and a hot cup of tea seemed much more pleasing.
"Do you want me to start the water?" Julian suggested.

Asra-!"

Julian smiled as Asra put the scarf on. "It looks great." He said, "I just knew it would suit you!" His voice seemed proud.
"The real question is" Julian said, "How does it feel?" His cheeks were still a bit pink, but he was trying to ignore it.
He thought he saw Asra's cheeks flush a bit, but he assumed it was wishful thinking. Julian never was good with telling the emotions and reading the body language of other people... especially when he had feelings for them!
Julian smirked a bit. "Do you have time for tea?" He asked. He had always enjoyed drinking tea with Asra. It always turned into the most fascinating of stories, and for once, Julian wasn't the narrater!
"I brought some tea bags to try." He explained, "Courtesy of Mazelinka. She figured you would like them!" He pulled a bundle of tea bags from his coat. "Packed and wrapped by Mazelinka, herself! She sent enough for two pots, too." He said cheerfully as he held up the bundle to show Asra. Handwrapped and tied carefully with hemp string, a note attached reads: 'To Asra - Chamomile, honey, and citrus. -Mazelinka'
"What do you say we make a pot now?" Julian suggested, "Then you can have the second pot whenever you want it."

Julian smiled as he saw Asra. "I do!" He said, holding out the beatiful scarf like a fragile necklace.
He didn't want to ruin the fabric and it seemed so fragile... like the smallest incorrect move of his hand would tear it in two.
"Sorry it's not wrapped. I saw it at a shop on my way here." His cheeks flushed ever so slightly as he continued to speak. "It- I thought you might like it since I've seen you wear similar... stuff." His voice trailed off.
He was obviously embarrassed. He hadn't realized how awkward it might seem to Asra that he brought a gift. After all it wasn't a very special occasion, and he had planned to do so as an excuse to visit the magician, since his only other option was drinking at The Rowdy Raven, and last time, he had gotten so drunk that he got in several fights.
Though, he wasn't a very big fighter... usually bar fights with him lasted 3 minutes maximum and ended with him unconscious in the corner. Still, it didn't make for a very good reputation at his favorite bar.
