Isn’t she cute?! This little opossum is a rescue! As a joey, she was found on the ground with a broken spine after a storm. Did you know that opossums are less likely to carry rabies than almost any other mammal? They have lower basal body temperatures. They’re also surprisingly adorable and gentle.

This is Dean! This may be hard to believe, but he isn’t a mutt. He’s a McNab cattle dog. Never heard of that breed before? Well that’s because it technically isn’t a “standard breed.” He’s a working cattle dog. Cattle dogs are generally bred for intellectual capacity, health, temperament, and so on. The McNab breed contains Border Colie, Kelpie, Australian Shepherd, and Catahoula Leopard Dog. This pup wasn’t bred to adhere to a breed standard but to work a job and do it well. While the AKC doesn’t recognize his breed, I can assure you he’s a well-oiled-machine of a dog with over 100 years of breeding in his history! Not bred for looks, but for capability.

He’s exquisite.
Fun fact: Siamese cats like my boy Blue here have certain genetic components which determine their fur color based on their body temperature. They’re like walking heat maps. The darker fur grows on the least heat retentive areas of the cat’s body. See how his fur is darker on his back? It’s because He had to be shaved in the winter. His fur came in black because it was cold out and he needed the extra warmth. He used to have white fur there. Some humans also have this! I think it’s cool.
