I used water colour paints in order to create a subtle, washy coloured background and then drew over the top a detailed Biro drawing. The areas of light tone are purposely left blank in order for the colours in the background to come through into the picture to make is a part of the composition as opposed to just a background. This creation was inspired by artist Daisy Maude.

Debbie Ayles creates often complex geometric representations of buildings and scenes, even including scaffolding on buildings, creating the ultimate in geometric line density, I tried to simplify her syle and created these results in both her usual pastel colours style and left white.
I like both but actually feel the before paint versions are the best option and the most likely to develop further.

This is the second of my Paula Swisher inspired Biro drawings. This time I decided to develop and diversify the style by incorporating aspects of Mark Powell's style as well as that of Paula Swisher.
The aspects I included I feel make this style even stronger and by drawing in good old black Biro it became more similar to Mark Powells monotone style. By using a tea stained envelope as a work surface this also screams Powell and on a bigger scale and with more time spent on it could prove a great place to start.

Jason Gathorne-Hardy creates extremely free and loose hand depictions of birds, I found it really interesting that such an accurate representation of something can be created with what is effectively planned scribbles. Although the method of creating these drawings is very expressive and in no way perfect, something with I enjoyed, found great fun in and would like to try again and hand in hand with other styles.

My latest continuous line drawings done in different coloured inks just like in Jilianna Jagielska's work.
I always enjoy doing continuous line drawings but rarely manage to fit it into my art journeys as it is rare to find an artist specialising in continuous line.
I also like how the different coloured pens and overlapping of images creates new shapes without taking away from each tools entirety.

My recent Paula Swisher inspired Biro tool drawing with emulsion highlights.
I followed PS's style by drawing in close detail and on text surfaces, I wasn't too keen on this drawing until I added the paint highlights and now I feel with the coloured Biro blending slightly with the paint this drawing is much more like her style.

These two pen drawings are a collaboration of a number of artist styles I have experimented with recently, I next intend to try incorporating areas of map texture as well as the classic Dine scribbled/scratched lines.
I believe the two tones of pen make this image and I also am pleased with the areas of text and blank paper, I look forward to trying more drawings similar to these ones.

These are a series of Ed Fairburn inspired pen drawings, Drawing on maps is another welcome change and I feel is far easier than often more effective than creating my own backgrounds. By simply choosing a suitable map I can create more tool drawings which either: finish at at the shoreline; incorporate two ink colours; work in pen and pencil and also use the contour lines showing relief of the map texture to become part of the background as apposed to being placed over it.

Florian Nicolle is an intriguing artist whos art is slightly outside my comfort zone, this implied outline style is also interesting however does not allow a drawing to become finished, something I like about my work. This style worked well my my tool theme.

Some recent portraits done of my relatives and friends, done in the style of artists Jamie Shovlin and Mark Powell. Drawing in both pen and on letters was a welcome change for me however I feel the Jamie Shovlin inspired portrait (left) is not as soft or flattering as the style suggests.
