A good old rant on the recent Doctor Who recasting speculations

Numerous articles are now out claiming that Jodie is stepping down as the Doctor after yep- you guessed it- 3 series in the role! I’m not gonna deny that I am pretty sick of Doctor Who only keeping actors on as the Doctor for 3 series- its so monotonous and entirely predictable- the Doctor is a 2000 year plus time-lord/lady and its been established that anything can happen in the world of Doctor Who, yet its obvious that all it boils down to is a BBC contract length.

It’s also frustrating as they always announce it around the same time every time an actor is to quit. Like, they’ll get through 2 series and their performance will be pretty solid now -guaranteed- after that last christmas special- and then BOOM the actor is quitting. The fact that they announce it also ruins all excitement and unpredictability when it comes to the Doctor’s regenerations, which to most people, is such a special part of the show and should be dramatised as such, not spoiled a year before by trashy newspaper headings.

Finally, I just want to say that Jodie IS the Doctor, nobody else in this current era of Doctor Who is the Doctor regardless of who people say ‘their’ Doctor is. Each incarnation is special in their own way and each should be celebrated for as long as their era lasts, without it being tainted by speculation on who the next actor in the role will be. Jodie has cemented herself as a brilliant Doctor and she is clearly very comfortable in the role. Why change this? Adding this onto the BBC’s confirmation that only 8 episodes will be aired this year due to covid restrictions it’s actually pretty heartbreaking to Thirteen fans to have it speculated that she may only be on our screen for another 8 mere hours!

When Jodie goes it should be in an epic unspoiled adventure untainted by tabloids, next doctor speculations and just the general hate this era has been getting. Imagine how much grander the show would be if we could let it be what it is and let events unfold on screen as we witness them!
