The Return of the Novae
By Cedric Grayson (El Asilo Gazette)
You’ve all heard the conspiracy theories of places like the Eygptian pyramids being the work of aliens, but would it surprise you to know that alien influences on our society were in fact, a lot closer to the present than many people think? That’s right, I’m talking about space cowboys.
The Novae are a proud, industrious species that occupies the fringes of space. In historical and scientific circles, it’s becoming commonly accepted that several Novae appeared on Earth during the 17th century, and more arrived within the following hundred years. Our benevolent visitors gifted us technology such as the steam engine, and the steam train (which appears to be a non-spaceworthy version of their own ships). In turn, as we grew used to them, we began to adopt their culture, and in no place was this more prevalent than America.
The era commonly referred to as the Wild West took place in the early 1800′s. Movies with images of scenic cliffs and quickdraw duels (another Novae influence, if we look back far enough) are not representative of the era. It was largely lawless, with no courts and only vigilance commites to try to keep the peace. Most towns had 1.5 murders a year, and the bigger cities had more than that. People died of disease and accidents, and travel was incredibly dangerous.
That was what the first Novae saw when they arrived on Earth. With their wild, adventerous attitudes and keen sense of justice (source: Billy Marshall’s Journal, circa. 1817) they helped to cut down on the rate of crime, bring new technology that allowed the common folk to travel, and immortalized the idea of the Gunslinger character in our society’s collective mind.
Unfortunately, the Novae left a mere decade after they had arrived. Historical sources state that humanity had wronged them in some way, but never mentioned what it was. The Novae have held humanity at arms legnth ever since.
Unitl today.
A Novae Ambassador, Sheriff Faraday, has arrived in the hopes of smoothing over interspecies relations. They are set to marry the daughter of Lisette Cross, a key member of the United Nations Alien Liason Commission. A press conference has been set in Sentinel City for later this week.
With the Cosmic Defenders dissapearance, there is no denying that the Novae may be able to help assist humanity in its time of need. Their past actions have shown that they are willing and able to do so - provided that we are able to move past the mysterious incident that incited the Novae to leave in the first place.
More on this story as it unfolds.
