Very Pro Joe and Jenny, and even though  Rooting for Danabbie to happen, because if Ichabbie isn’t going to happen, I’d rather watch Daniel and Abbey as oppose to a parade of bland white women that Ichabod is courting.

And so am I. I lost the majority of my family through mass genocide. My grandmother’s first child was gassed to death in front of her eyes just to mock her. She herself became a human lab rat for testing, the drugs eventually causing her death. My grandfather was chased by dogs after having his head cracked open, his only way of surviving was burying himself in snow for several hours. My mother even may have not made if if she was not born in secret and hidden away as hospital workers were poisoning pregnant women to cause miscarriages. Till this day, the remaining survivors in my family who have Alzheimers experience constant flashes to the days they were tortured and without food and water. 

With the release of Age of Ultron in less than a week, I felt it was important to discuss the fact that we haven’t seen more criticism of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s cultural identities being ripped from their characters, and on top of it having them volunteer as test subjects for a neo-nazi group (Hydra). It is so rare to have had a group of characters with cultural identities that mirrored mine that I felt it was important to comment on it.

The Book of MOJO started out as a self published webcomic. It’s an Urban Fantasy story set in the near future that follows an unlikey duo, “Creepy,” a 13 yr old runaway witch, and Mojo, a 7 foot tall enchanted statue. Creepy wants to learn the deepest secrets of magic to reunite with her father, and Mojo has an unknown, dark origin that threatens both of them.

We were inspired to animate this story after completing a CG teaser for the comic book last year.  Many of it’s viewers were not only excited by the premise, but also by the story’s female lead,  a strong young person of color. As an African American father of two girls, imagery in the media is very important to me, and diversity is something I’m excited to address in a fun and entertaining way.

We are crowdfunding an animated short based on the first issue as proof of concept for an original series or feature film. We are industry professionals with decades of combined experience at studios like Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks and Blue Sky Studio and we’re passionate about pushing the boundaries of American animation. We don’t think we’re alone. We believe that with your support, we can prove that there is a strong fan base that wants to see more of this world and its characters.

The Book of Mojo tells the story of Creepy, a 13 year old runaway getting by on her wits and her limited training in witchcraft. Separated from her father by a tragic accident, she seeks to master the secrets of magic in hopes of one day reuniting with him. Her life is turned upside down when a powerful magical artifact literally drops into her life.

The artifact, a 7 foot tall enchanted statue she calls Mojo, has no recollection of who or what it is, or where it came from. When Creepy agrees to help look into its origins, mostly for her own selfish reasons, it isn’t long before Mojo’s secret past threatens them both…

The story of “Book of Mojo” centers around Creepy, a homeless teenage witch in search of her missing father. Then Mojo, a giant enchanted statue, literally falls into her life. With no memory of his past, Creepy agrees to help Mojo, for her own reasons. But things quickly spiral out of control when a group of black magic users called The Brokerage come to claim Mojo, saying they created him. The duo must then go on the run into the labyrinth of city streets, avoiding a magic-wielding crime syndicate, the cops, and Creepy’s personal rivals.

“Book of Mojo” started life as a comic book by Everett Downing (Pixar/Dreamworks). When he recruited his colleagues to create a trailer for the first book, it seemed a natural fit as an animated series. Thus Alchemy Engine was born.

Alchemy Engine currently consists of 25 past employees of major studios such as Pixar Animation Studio, Dreamworks Animation, and Blue Sky Studios. Disillusioned by the current paradigm of American animation, Alchemy Engine strives to tell stories featuring characters they feel are under-represented in today’s animation market. Committed to providing a different kind of content, they have banded together to take creative risks in producing compelling stories for young-adults.
