   the sound of steel on steel echoes in his ears, unrelenting. even in this brief moment where their metal tines aren’t up to the sky, alistair’s head aches from tension. the weight of the day’s ( and soon, tonight’s as well ) responsibilities hit him at the worst of times.

   “ have patience. ”  alistair hears lorin speaking, but his words don’t register straight away. he makes an attempt to jester, but all that leaves him is,  “ what? ”  and the hero drones on. alistair’s gaze travels to his right hand where the hilt of his sword lies, lorin’s own glove-covered hand adjusting his grip on it. the gesture alone causes something to stir somewhere inside of him.

   it isn’t often anymore that the two have time to be around one another simply as the friends they are. whether that’s to be expected or not, he doesn’t know. and… oh, he hasn’t responded yet — sweet andraste, he’s far too out of it.

   “ yes, i’m… i’m sorry about this. this day has proven to be… well. some days are just a bit much. i admit i was hoping to let out some stress when sparring with you this evening. ”  a sigh leaves him and alistair sets his shield down, newfound free hand rubbing his forehead in perturbation; though, he laughs in the same breath.  “ i guess i have proven a poor partner in that regard. now! my pitiful monologue is over and i’m ready to carry on. shall we? ”
