He places a bouquet of flowers in a vase.

It's Valentines' day!

Or, to be specific, it was almost midnight on Valentines' day. His wife and his children were all fast asleep, and he had only just gotten home from work.

Nevertheless, he'd taken his time to go to a florist that he knew would be open late at night, and picked out his wife's favourite flowers.

Roses, anemone, and orchids.

And, as a little surprise, he placed a pot on the table.

A bird of paradise flower.

Not common, but it had always been her favourite. Besides, it would be their 9th wedding anniversary soon, and it was a beautiful way to commemorate it.

Smiling, he moves away to wash up and head to bed. He couldn't wait to see her look of surprise when she saw what he'd gotten her

It's Valentines' day.

He hadn't realized until Shiina-kun pointed it out during her daily checkup. He'd hurried to ask for a rose alongside the medical supplies for the day.

It was something he'd done for the past few years in Milgram. Time didn't seem to move properly, but at least one of them was always keeping track of the days. So, with every important occasion, he'd ask for a rose to place in his cell.

He sighs. He wishes he had the time and space to give her more. Even if she's gone.

He misses her.
