Do you think Crocodile has actually changed his opinions on Luffy to any meaningful extent?

sure. When Luffy first showed up he was some no-name rookie barely worth licking the sand off his boots. Then he absolutely refused to die no matter how many times Crocodile killed him, and by the end of their fight you can see Croc starting to enjoy himself a little.

Then, you know, Croc lost, and he ended up in the torture prison, and somehow in that process was reminded of his dream to become the Pirate King.

Crocodile would not have saved Luffy’s life at Marineford if he didn’t care at least a little. He might want to kill Luffy, but he wants to do it himself, you know?
