I think the biggest punch in the gut when it comes to Aerith’s death in FF7 is in the party UI (such as for buying gear), the spot where Aerith’s portrait was isn’t even filled up by another character, there’s just a massive, gaping hole where her picture was that you automatically notice whenever you bring up the party UI.

Just like the hole she left in our hearts.
