I had heard about alpha centauri, and i was very excited for them, but nothing conceivable on earth could have prepared me for the fact that they talk like THAT
sometimes a coming-of-age story is about holding your abusive mother as a baby and although you won’t reconcile with her in the present you begin to understand how generational trauma may have affected her behaviour towards you long ago. sometimes a coming-of-age story is also about defeating sea vampire nazis through the power of faith and befriending a communist and a devastating betrayal from your space mentor . and in the end it’s about taking your hair out of the constricting netting that’s been holding it and diving for a swim into the wild swirling waters
'just ask them out, the worst they could say is no' WRONG the worst they could say is that's why i left you behind. it's not easy even just looking at you, jack, because you're wrong. you are. i can't help it. i'm a time lord. it's instinct. it's in my guts. you're a fixed point in time and space. you're a fact. that's never meant to happen, even the tardis reacted against you, tried to shake you off. flew all the way to the end of the universe just to get rid of you.
i think the doctor uses it/its in the manner one would refer to an eldritch being beyond comprehension, but also it/its in the way scientists talk about lab animals, but also it/its in the way someone would talk about a shell on the beach, but also it/its in the way you’d refer to a faraway star, but also and mostly, it/its in the way that just means the Doctor and not anything else in the universe.
the problem with watching doctor who as a child is that a small part of your brain can never completely give up the idea that the doctor exists. if i saw a blue police box materialize out of thin air i would not be anywhere near surprised enough.
doctor, jamie, victoria, zoe and many others friend and foe, i wish to let you know it makes me sad that the british broadcasting corporation got rid of most of your adventures all those years ago simply because they're seen as 'little of value'.
but as the years went by some of your stories have been found across the earth, yet to me there's still unfinished business. it will be up to us, the whovian fanatics, to find the rest of your adventures through the most ridiculous ways possible.
most of your memories through time, beyond space, and across earth may have been lost, but one day they will be found; whether through reconstructions or novelised by others, your tales will be proven to have truly high value.
