madokami bless!
1K posts
Madokami’s self-appointed disciple who tries to be holy and stuff but usually just ends up screaming bloody murder over a phone game instead. The jury’s still out on whether I’m a worthy addition to the Law of Cycles. I’m a mediocre Magia Record NA refugee who screams into the void every so often. Madokami has forsaken me, but at least I have Mokyu. Horrible at organizing memoria and saving rolls. I get lucky once in a blue moon, but for now you can listen to me witch out.

So with the release of the Doppel Iroha trailer, it looks like Iroha's Doppel name is back to Giovanna, so...why did they change it in the first place?
I wonder if they were planning to change it and went back on it last minute. Or it was some kind of placeholder, or even a mistake? I don't know, but I'm happy to have Giovanna back.
As for the Kioku herself...The Special animation is very nice, I like the more abstract elements involved in the actual "Doppeling out", as it were...Though, the fact that the Doppel is summoned in the Special itself implies it may not be present in the other animations, which is disappointing. Hopefully it at least shows up in the Skill.
As for her kit, she looks...fine? I think her healing is the best out of the current available healers, but she lacks ailment cleanse even with Ascension, which is unfortunate. She also introduces a regeneration mechanic, which I would assume works how it does in any other game. So that's neat, but honestly, I think Kaede is still better just because of her MP regeneration. She might be a better Healer for crit teams though?
Take my opinions with a grain of salt, though, I have no idea how the numbers actually work for things like this.
Also, she's Dark? On one hand it's kind of cool, on the other hand I can't imagine Iroha with any element other than Light.
Once again I lament the lack of unique quotes and stories for Kioku in this game, because it'd be really interesting to hear Iroha talk about her Doppel or something. Alas.

By the way, I did see the projected release for Doppel Iroha. Am I excited for it? Well, duh. I didn't think there'd be any Doppel content at all, so it's a welcome surprise for me. That being said, I'm curious to see how they'll design her gameplay.
It'd be kind of lame if it was just regular Iroha for every attack except for her Special. I wanna see the Doppel actually do stuff! Especially with how nicely the Witches are animated in Exedra. Get surreal! Please! For me?
As for her kit, my first instinct is...Debuffer, maybe? With the whole cloth covering everything up. Or Healer, because - let's be real - Iroha should have been a Healer from the start. We did not need to launch the game with three Light Breakers and zero 5 star Healers. Maybe she'll be focused around MP generation since you have to exhaust your magic to summon your Doppel in the first place? I honestly have no idea how they'd approach this since Magia Record Doppels were almost always enhancements of the base Magia, with some rare exceptions.
Alas, the existence of Doppel alts squashes any possibility of Doppels returning as a gameplay element, but I kind of figured this would be the case. It's a shame, though, because I really loved getting to see every new character's Doppel and its corresponding symbolism. But of course, they're restricted to Kamihama...
Can we at least get Alina's Atelier events back, so we can fight their Witches? Please?????? Imagine how COOL that would be, getting to see their Witches in full 3D with all the patterns and effects! I am STARVED of my Witch and Doppel content, please give me anything, please please pleasepleaseple
The existence of Doppel alts DOES suggest there could be more Doppel alts...I can't really see them creating them for anyone except the main cast, though - at least, if they're limiting it to those that actually use their Doppel within the main story of Magia Record. In which case...uh, does anyone actually use their Doppel besides Iroha and the Wings of Magius?
I'll cross my fingers anyway. A Campanella alt for Yachiyo would go SO hard, you guys.

There have been theories that the onrush of banners at launch could be because of the game's initial delay, and it's certainly possible. Especially with units like Madokami; I'm sure they want to get her out before the new movie releases. That could explain why they're dropping her now instead of at half-anni, first anni, etc.
That being said - just one month of a banner cycle like this is enough to burn people out. It's not a great impression for a game's launch.
But the projected schedule for May does seem to suggest a slowdown. Hopefully it stays that way.
genuinely curious about this

They posted an announcement about this in the game news today and it is confirmed as... just a bug! Not that I really expected anything else, tbh
So, uh, fun (?) fact...
You know how at the end of the last Walpurgisnacht fight, you get a staged segment (hehe, staged) with solo Madoka?
I never thought to do this at the time, but if you actually try to check Walpurgisnacht's stats...
Okay, nothing happens. At FIRST. You get the standard-looking menu. But if you click on "Enemy Info" - which makes a sound, but doesn't do anything - and then click on Skills, you'll get this...kind of broken-looking Kioku page with a bunch of sample text.
Tumblr media
Whatever, seems like a bug, right?
But if you click on the Details tab after this, you get...
Tumblr media
Which, uh...
Chat, what does this mean?
Why does - okay, well, there's a lot going on here with the max stats and horribly redundant Kioku title, but, chat, why does it say Homura Akemi there? Hello????
Okay, to be more serious, this is probably a bug.
You normally go to Ally Info when you click on Enemy Info, and vice versa. You only have a super powered-up Madoka during this fight, and are forced to use her Special, so...my assumption is that the game screws up a bit trying to load her skills, since she doesn't really have any. The "supremely invincible unrivaled ultra hyper Kioku" title, as redundant as it is, would definitely suit Madoka at this point in time.
But then for some reason it gives you Homura's name instead of Madoka's, and...yes, it is definitely an error and means nothing, but seeing Homura's name as a technical (though likely erroneous) identifier for Walpurgisnacht is...hurting my brain...
People do have theories, after all...

Not sure if anyone's posted about this yet, but the new event has been delayed for an unknown period, potentially up to 12 hours:
Tumblr media
It is certainly a choice to announce this 20 minutes before the event is supposed to drop. Especially since they also delayed the rewards for the 1 million download campaign.
I mean, if it's emergency maintenance, that does happen, it's just...strange to announce it so late. Whatever. I think I'm still a little irritated about the 1 mil download rewards being delayed haha.
Hoping it doesn't take the full 12 hours though...

Yeah, I agree with this. Nightmare difficulty has kept me sated for now but I'm almost at the end of it and realizing I don't have much motivation to do anything else afterwards.
It really bugs me how you're limited to 5 plays per day with events, arena, and heartphial. Even with grinding upgrade stages you can only refill QP 8 times per day. Does anyone else think that limitation is kind of arbitrary? Wouldn't the devs want more play time??? I don't really get it, to be honest.
And character investment just doesn't feel as gratifying as it does in Magia Record. It was cool to progressively unlock new abilities, art, voicelines, and animation effects as you invested in characters. With Exedra, investment is pretty much just a number going up, and all "new abilities" are gacha-locked behind Ascension. It's definitely possible this will change in the future but right now I don't feel compelled to build any characters outside of my main team.
I know that if I constantly compare Exedra to Magireco I'll always be disappointed. It's not like Magia Record got everything right, either. But it's just weird for Exedra to limit things that worked just fine in their last game. Why fix parts that weren't broken? I don't know...anyways, the best thing any of us can do is write feedback and hope for the best.
Magia Exedra negativity I guess?
Something I was thinking about is that getting a new character is kind of disappointing in this game compared to Magia Record.
Let's say I finally actually got Kaede. In MagiReco I could spend AP and start working on her episode levels, go to labs and spend AP to level her up, get her materials. I could farm old bosses to get mats. Every time you leveled up her episode level you also unlocked quotes. You can put her on the homescreen and see all her little animations, what different outfits she has (if she has any).
In Magia Exedra you can use her in a fight. If you have heartsand saved, you can level her heartphial but if you don't then... that's kinda it, isn't it? And even if you have sand, it's not like you can read all of her story right away. You can't even look at half of her quotes right away like you can in magireco. You just kind of get her and the only difference is if you can use her in a fight or not.
And if you're an idiot who has defeated all the nightmare fights in the game then... well what do you do? I guess you can redo them if you want?
There really isn't any endgame at the moment. You log in and complete your dailies and then... well, that's kind of it. You can argue that maybe Magia Record was like that too, but you still had stuff to do. Like, there were so many characters you could work on and farm materials for, you could work on episode level, you could work towards doppels. If all else failed then you could farm SP to get memoria lol. Rainbow orbs were a bottleneck sure, but you could farm labs for the rare chance at getting them (seeing a rainbow orb as a drop in a lab always got me so fucking happy haha, it was like an instant boost of serotonin, even when they became really easy to acquire).
Man and what I'm gonna say is controversial but the SKIP function is both a blessing and a curse. I kind of feel like I shouldn't even complain about it, because I know I'm in the minority here. Cause AUTO in magireco isn't exactly good gameplay either? But it's kind of depressing to just skip all the farming. IDK. Maybe I'm just old.
I log on to my account and want to do stuff and there's just not really a whole lot to do.
I used to play mirrors endlessly when I was bored by refreshing BP and using strange weird teams and just having fun, but that doesn't work for Magia Exedra because you have to spend fucking magica stones to do so. And it's auto. And you really can't get away with using silly fun teams because that'll drop your ranking and your pvp rank is tied to tangible rewards?
...
Yeah I just kind of miss having things to do.
The JP account is fun atm because I'm playing through it more slowly but I dread the day I hit endgame because like. then what.
And another thing-- I will say that Magireco had some issues with how easy it became towards the end. I remember when NA first launched and we were all strugglin' with the waiting horse boss' poison. But at the same time, I really appreciate that you could use almost any character you wanted. Like uhhh I dunno. Two-stars and three-stars who weren't uncapped yet. You could still use them. Not in the hardest Scene 0 fights, but like. You could use them. But here...? Who the fuck is gonna use 3* Kako? Why doesn't Kako have a 4* version? She doesn't even get a personal portrait.
And that's another thing. 2* and 3* weren't better than 4* (most of the time) but it didn't feel like a waste to put work into them, even as a whale, you know? Because they can get uncapped. But like. Who is gonna invest in 3* Kako? Why would I work on 3* Masara if 4* Masara exists? What if I put a lot of effort into 4* Masara and then she gets a 5* version years down the line?
I guess you could argue that it's the same for when variants come out, but like... at least variants might look different from one another, you know? But this is just Masara. And at least with variants I can make a fun mirrors team of 5 Mamis and not feel penalized for it.
I like Magia Exedra but I miss Magia Record. I would trade Magia Exedra for Magia Record in a heartbeat. Even with all the Oriko content that I have devoured.
Edit: oh and I liked the small amount of customization we got too. Even as small as something like picking what card art to use on a character. I liked Tsuruno's 3* card art best. I liked choosing if the battle screen would show their chibis on the attacks or their card art. ...yeah that's a really small thing. I dunno.
Oh and picking backgrounds... and music...
maybe the game will start to implement more changes, maybe it won't, idk.

I just cleared the Tower! Pretty cool! Some of those last fights are pretty tanky, a little harder than their Nightmare equivalents. I was still able to clear around 23K below the recommended power, so it's definitely possible as long as you're playing manually.
The Prism Orbs you get from this are amazing, and I now have far more than I know what to do with. The temptation to push my Homura to Magic Lvl. 120 is strong, but I know it would probably be better to spread them out evenly across different units.
Er, that being the case...
I've been trying not to be too negative as I summarized most of my thoughts in my previous post, and I don't want to bring down vibes for people that are genuinely enjoying the game so far.
But...seriously? 10 gems per stage for what looks to be the main endgame content...?
Like come on, would it have killed them to give us 30 gems per stage, like it is in main story content? 900 gems doesn't exactly break the economy, you know.
That on top of the hilarious sum of a single pull obtainable through the new event shop, for 6,000 coins, makes it all kind of feel like a bad joke.
It's definitely better than nothing, don't get me wrong. But this game hasn't even been out for a month yet, and it already has cycled through four new character banners. If that pace is going to be consistent for the rest of the game's lifespan, they need to give us a little more to work with, otherwise I seriously worry for the game's longevity....

Reblogging because I almost missed this the first time!
Some other important notes about this system
Event plays are shared between events, so you can only play archived events five times a day. This is separate from the currently-running events though! So you can do your normal event plays and then five archive plays per day.
You can get archive medals even if you've already played the events!
The event bonuses appear to be the same, though I don't know if there's any way to get the event portraits if you missed them during the event run.
I can't confirm this since I played these events, but I think you use the memory tickets to unlock any events you've missed. (Hopefully it's one ticket per event and not one ticket per stage....)
Also it looks like the archive shop is a little bugged because you can only access it through the Trader; if you try accessing it from the archived event screen you end up with the actual event shop screen, which is now completely empty. Probably a bug???
As you can see in the photo it has a prism orb so yeah get that if nothing else
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The new feature Event Archive was added to Magia Exedra today
It allows you to play through past events that you might have missed and it also comes with its own Archive Medal shop

This screenshot I found is pretty dark, but it seems to be "Griseldis".
I'm not sure what this relates to, though; I have to do more research. My best guess so far is either the opera Grisélidis, the play that opera is based on, or the folklore character Griselda.
It's kind of strange for Exedra to retcon this, even if it's just a symbolic detail...I'm not really that bothered by it, but it's weird to change it after keeping it the same in both localizations of the game and anime. But hey, maybe it has more significance for Iroha as a character?
what do you mean they changed iroha's doppel name

Some Confusing or Misleading Exedra Stats and Effects
Have you, too, mistakenly upgraded a break effect portrait, assuming it would deal more damage to the break gauge? Magia Exedra's battle system is pretty simple to grasp, but there are effects it chooses not to explain for some reason.
Except they ARE explained...but only in the Help menu, which you may not think to check with all those tabs. So I decided to create a compilation post for any stats and effects I thought were vague or misleading.
I'm leaving out stats/effects that I think are pretty self-explanatory (like ATK affecting how much damage you deal, and so on). However, if there is a stat or effect you think I should add, let me know!
Also, let me know if there's anything I get wrong. The game is still in early stages, and these descriptions are only my understanding of how the game works.
4/18 update: Edited to add some more clarification on how break effect, break gauge depletion, and break bonus works. I wish this wasn't so confusing ;-;
Element: A Kioku has one of six elemental types: Flame, Aqua, Forest, Light, Dark, and Void. If you attack an enemy with a corresponding element weakness, you deal more damage and have increased break gauge depletion.
Unlike games like HSR, all elements will damage the break gauge. Elements that target a weakness will deal more break damage.
Kioku themselves don't have elemental weaknesses; only enemies do. As far as I can tell, this also applies to PvP which may be part of the reason battles take so freaking long.
Break Effect: Increases the small bit of "break damage" dealt when an enemy's break gauge is depleted.
Okay, so I messed this up the first time, my apologies. The descriptions for the three break effects in this game are really confusing.
Break effect ONLY seems to affect the portion of damage you deal to the enemy AS you break them. When you break an enemy for the first time, you'll notice that two damage numbers pop up. One is the regular attack damage, while the other is the "break damage", and THIS is what break effect...affects.
This stat does NOT affect the damage you deal to an enemy's break gauge. That stat is break gauge depletion, and it is usually unspecified in percentage (abilities will just say "increase break gauge depletion"). There isn't any current way to increase it outside of Kioku abilities, but that may change.
Likewise, this stat does not affect the percentage multiplier that appears after the enemy is broken. This is break bonus, which does have percentage increases but only appears in a few Kioku abilities, such as Ashley's.
So, um, yeah, do not invest in break effect portraits. Increasing that small amount of damage you deal for only the moment the enemy is broken is not worth it. You'd be better off investing in SPD or DMG dealt, IMO.
Shield: Reduces damage taken. Applies for only a certain number of hits, and cannot reduce damage from ailments.
Why they have an effect named "barrier" and an effect named "shield" is anyone's guess...It's not like "Reduce DMG Taken" rolls off the tongue or anything, but I think it'd be easier to understand at a glance.
By the way, both barriers and shields count as removable buffs, so they can both be cleansed by buff-removing skills such as 3* Hazuki's Battle Skill or 4* Ayame's Special.
Additional Turn: An effect where a Kioku gains a second turn. Buffs and debuffs do not tick down on additional turns, and queued Special Skills will not trigger until after the additional turn has finished.
Other things worth noting:
Debuff hit rate is naturally 100%, and is decreased by an enemy's Debuff RES.
"Certain" debuffs can no longer be applied if a unit's Debuff RES reaches 100%. Not specified what these are.
Follow-up attacks, counterattacks, and assists will only trigger once per ally or enemy action.
Buffs applied by Abilities are impossible to remove.
A character has a different chance of being targeted based on their Role.
Defenders: high chance
Healers, Buffers, Debuffers: medium chance
Attackers, Breakers: low chance
Stun is (currently) the only ailment that blocks actions (i.e., skips your turn).
So uh yeah hopes this helps people out, and again, let me know if I got anything wrong or should add anything!! :)
