I just love it when books rip the heart out of your chest and emotionally destroy you.

When Donna Tartt said Forgive me, for all the things I did but mostly for the ones that I did not, and M. L. Rio said How tremendous the agony of unmade decisions.

lit meme: [1/10] series or books → if we were villians but that is how a tragedy like ours or king lear breaks your heart—by making you believe that the ending might still be happy, until the very last minute.

I wish there was an app that worked kinda like spotify except with books,, like you could create a playlist of books with a specific theme/ aesthetic and it would give you suggestions for other books you might like

not 2 sound whiny but i wish more attention was given to the importance of art and literature and philosophy and other humanities again so they'll return to being a really great part of what shapes a decade or an era instead of being seen as useless because they don't fit into the capitalist ideal of a productive society

I’m back after a long hiatus with some very exciting news: this October, Titan Books will be releasing a special, signed hardback edition of If We Were Villains featuring fresh new cover art and an introduction by me. You can pre-order the book here or from your favorite retailer.
I’m so excited for you to have this beauty in your hands. More soon!

experiences that made me feel like the main character of a donna tartt novel
sneaking in a little reading before my friend wakes up beside me and complains about the curtains i always open too early
her falling back asleep in my right arm because she is not a morning person as i turn the book's pages with my left
playing badminton in the rain while barefoot like a fool
getting a cold from it and burning my tongue with chai in hopes of relieving it because i am still a fool
wearing her father's old knit over a polo i brought since this summer is colder than expected (found family ep. 1)
stopping every few seconds to admire architecture in the local medieval city square
holding a conversation with a friend of hers--him speaking my native language, and i speaking in his (so we can both practice at one time), confusing everyone else around us
debating political topics while everyone else is taking selfies using an old film camera
pretending i don't really care as much as i do when someone spills beer on my leather shoes
ditching the party to go drink red wine under a stone bridge and list all the things wrong with society, our legs swinging above the canal
being joined by a few stragglers and passing bottles from person to person as if i'd known more of them than just a handful longer than a day (found family ep. 2)
reaffirming the conclusion that no matter how many kinds i try, i won't find one i actually like, and that part of the aesthetic is indeed overrated
pointing out how fast the water current is and warning if someone fell in, no one would dive in after because it would be a death sentence
knowing damn well one of us fools would do it anyway
walking home in the dark without falling over the cobblestones because i am one of the only completely sober ones left
writing a few poems about that day in the middle of the night

If I accidently murdered a farmer I would simply not write about it in my diary, RIP to Henry Winter but I’m different.
