UNS Linguistic Lecture Webinar; A brief summary. Two topics are presented during this online lecture. Both speakers bring new insights to all participants. The first speaker is Mas Gede Rajeg, discusses the use of Corpora in linguistic research. He provides one example of using corpus linguistics for morphological research, focusing on the form-meaning relationship in Indonesian voice "kena-i" and  "kena-kan" morphological construction (G.P.W. Rajeg, I.M. Rajeg & I.W. Arka, 2020). He asserts it’s important no note that Corpus Linguistic is a tool, not a “goal” in research. It’s all coming back to the researcher’s research question and objective The second speaker is Dr. Edi Jauhari who talks about politeness theory based on Scollon & Scollon (2001) model. This politeness model can be a great alternative of a framework for pragmatic politeness study in a cross-cultural and corporate context. Pak  Edi provides an application of Scollon & Scollon’s pragmatic politeness to Javanese - Jawa (arek) language. From both topics discussed, i.e: Corpus Linguistic and Pragmatic Politeness of Scollon & Scollon. I’d say analogically that both are like carpentry tools, it’s all coming back to the carpenters on how would the tools be used and for what intended final product. For further read : G.P.W.
