people debate whether or not aggressively fixating on meaningless internet arguments is employed behavior or unemployed behavior, but I think the answer is a little outside the paradigm: when you are employed at a job where you feel powerless, a job where every day bleeds into the next, ceaseless and unchanging, a job that (and this is the most critical part) does not allow you much of a life beyond scrolling your phone, creating a hill to die on can easily become a form of agency. human connection, a sense of purpose and identity, the opportunity for free expression, etc are all things that Arguing Online can facilitate. in tandem with this, the compulsion to enforce order and punish wrongness reproduced by wider society (especially in bad job environments) is something that the despondent Online Arguer now has access to as well. being unemployed and constantly Arguing Online is an extension of this, as many unemployed people tend to suffer from social isolation and desire environments where unpleasantness can be controlled instead of ceaselessly inflicted. both the employed and unemployed Online Arguer are equally tethered to reality via their disconnect to their environment. both of them are trying to forge their own path on their own terms, no matter how unseemly. the correct term for this cohort is e-ronin.

Time for the lingua franca to be Franca again!” and then everyone ignored that
