No more, no less: the ideal way to shine your hair
Tumblr media
Do you think about changing something in your appearance, but you don't want anything too drastic? Making hair highlights is one of the most natural and light ways to lighten the strands. Democratic, they match any hair color - not just blondes, as many people think. However, as with any coloring process, some essential care is needed, both to keep the locks from drying out too much and not to run the risk of exaggerating the lightening of the locks. Before joining the new look, also find out what the different processes used by hairdressers to achieve the so desired hair highlights are and how they work. Thus, it will be much easier to choose the degree of brightness of your wires!
Be-a-bah the lights in the hair
The purpose of the lights in the hair is to illuminate, lightening thin strands - between 2 cm and 3 cm thick - and respecting the base color of the strands, which must be compatible with the new color. “For a more natural result, the lights are usually only two or three shades above the original color. But there is not much rule: sometimes, contrast is also a good option ”, says Sandro Cassolari, hairdresser at the salon Square Hair, in São Paulo.
As with locks, lights can be made with a cap, laminated paper and freehand . In the past, the most common technique was to always clear from the root, using the cap. "But the option has fallen into disuse a little, because there is a risk that, at the time of retouching, you end up also lightening different strands of hair", explains Sandro. As a result, instead of a subtle makeover in the look, the woman ends up becoming much more blond than she expected.

According to him, the laminated paper method and the handmade process can be used in the most modern techniques: the secret is to start dyeing the threads from the middle of the length and proceed to the ends, leaving the root free from coloring . "The look is more modern, without such a marked effect, and does not require such frequent retouching", completes the professional. The visit to the salon can be done three to five months apart.
To make the highlights in the hair, the laminated paper acts as an accelerator of the coloring process. One of the techniques that Sandro recommends for conquering natural strands with an emphasis on the ends is to bristle the strands to the root and secure them with staples, leaving the paper only in the remaining part of length. Lights like Californian and ombré hair , for example, can be done this way.
Hair highlights like balayage (also called balaage), in turn, are mandatorily done freehand. “As with a blank canvas, the hairdresser will brush the new color on the hair”, explains the hairstylist. This way the effect is more intense than the previous one. There is also a third process, famous for being stamped on the famous locks, which mixes advantages of the two previous techniques: the brand new flamboyage . The hairdresser uses a plastic adhesive to wrap the threads to be colored, which guarantees a lighter result than balayage, but with tips as clear as in the ombré hair.
Purple hydration
As with any coloring process , highlights also damage hair, especially when it comes to hydration. “Therefore, weekly treatments with emollient products - such as masks and treatment vials - are more than welcome,” says Sandro. The  Treatment Vial Dove Full Reconstruction , the Treatment Cream TRESemmé Hair Expert Detox  and Treatment Mask Nexxus Oil Infinite are good alternatives.
In addition, the hairdresser recommends the use of specific products for colored hair and, in particular, the dense and deep de-yellowing shampoo, the purple one made exclusively for blond hair. Its weekly use will help to preserve the luminous color achieved in the salon.
