The performance art that is MisMags discourse right now makes me feel incredibly alienated, and as a queer artist, frustrated and angry. I'm sorry that I grew up an autistic outcast who enjoyed fantasy and therefore engaged with the biggest internationally accessible fantasy escapism series because I happened to be a child at the time. I'm sorry that, as a transgender intersex adult, I feel complicated about my relationship to my childhood interests. I'm sorry that I realized only as an adult with experience and perspective how these things harmed me and others in spite of the positives they gave me in my vulnerable and lonely childhood. I'm sorry that clearly, Aabria and the Magical Misfits feel the same, wanted to explore that feeling, created their own world based on critique which they want to explore further, and are able to create an art piece to share about it. I'm sorry that not everyone is as willing to let JKR be granted ownership of a genre and setting of tropes (magical boarding schools) which she capitalized on, that existed before her, and deserves to exist after her, and I'm sorry that in order to deny her undue ownership of others labor, her work requires acknowledgement through criticism.

You can and should just not watch it. The transphobia towards Erika is unwarranted, and hurts every Trans fan of D20, especially those of us who do have these complicated relationships towards the Harry Potter universe. Humans are allowed complicated relationships with traumatic events and systems. That's literally a CONSTANT theme being discussed in D20 is these complex dynamics.

A lot of people in the D20 fandom seem to legitimately take it extremely seriously when the GM or cast makes a less than optimal decision or decide to do a bit instead of following a story thread more carefully but fr people need to understand that at the end of the day, they're doing these shows for themselves first and foremost. They're there to have a good time with their friends and tell a fun story. They're not going to police every choice and make sure it follows an exact tract for maximum fan acceptance

And Brennan is too much of a people pleaser (said affectionately; he's on the record as being bad with setting boundaries) to change the way he runs things. It would fundamentally change a ton of the show if he were to suddenly be a different type of person, and I don't think people actually want that.

(Yeah, there are a lot of story arcs that could be handled a lot better, but idk that's what fanfic is for. If a choice makes you genuinely upset, then you should take a deep breath, touch some grass, and go into a fix-it fic deep dive)

So imagine a DnD character who’s whole motivation is ‘X guy killed my parents and I need to find them’ and the party just thinks ‘ok, revenge quest, that’s normal’

But when they finally find the guy the person with dead parents is just like “Hey buddy, long time no see. It’s a shame we got separated, here’s some money” and they’re super chill.

The party is just confused and goes “Wait, why are you giving him gold?”

The guy just goes “Cause I owe him money?”

The party “But he killed your parents???”

“That’s why I owe him money!”

Rewatching Misfits and Magic and

Sometimes my girlfriend (black) who does not watch D20 will come into the room and I (white) will repeat a line Aabria Iyengar or Lou Wilson have just said and my lovely patient partner will just look at me like

"Who taught you how to say those words in that order"

The first time was watching Never After's Adventuring Party and repeating the "that's the hardest line I've ever heard"

But it happens so often with Misfits and Magic especially because of the basketball references and I don't know if you can tell by the everything about me but I am not that sports guy I am a horse girl (but a guy but horse guy is much different connotation)

Anyways thanks Aabria and Lou for making my existence that much funnier to my girlfriend
