The Beginning of my Crochet Journey
I always had some interest in crochet and the woolen arts. I would often enlist my grandmother into knitting me funky cardigans and making me granny square blankets. In the past she had taught me how to knit, which I very quickly discovered was not my forte, and my "scarf" was more holes than scarf. From then on I mostly only used wool to play with my multiple cats or make those hand strings that you could trap and release peoples wrists in. However in 2013, after graduating high school, I grew bored and decided pretty randomly that I needed to learn crochet and my grandma was the to teach me. After a few hours I had got the hang of it and created many large granny squares, with no real aim of making anything, only crocheting. After a few weeks I grew bored of this and stopped crocheting for a while whilst I got my life on track. Fast forward about 6 years and I have FINALLY finished my first crochet piece ever! Along the way I have started many projects, such as a snowflake garland, doughnut pillow, puff flowers, a small granny square blanket, a large granny square blanket and a baby blanket, with the latter being the only one I have ever finished. I made this baby blanket for my new baby niece, however at the time was unsure if I would have a niece or a nephew, so decided to use a variety of colours, my favourite being the grey which has little silver sparkles in it. Originally I wanted to connect all the squares together without the white border however could not think of a good way to do this as I am still learning the basics of crochet and have no idea what I'm doing. So I justserched on youtube how to join crochet squares together and watched multiple videos which lead me to my final piece. In the end I am really happy with how it turned out. I think the white softened the blanket and made it more appropriate for a baby. Also I did sew the ends in, I just never got a picture of the final product. I am currently working on a zig-zag crochet blanket (yes before I finish my other multiple projects because I never stick to one thing!), which I will create a new post abut once it starts to look like something other than one big chain!I'd love to connect with any other avid crocheters out there who can share some tips with a beginner like me. Also please feel free to comment what you think and any other hacks you'd like to share :)
