couple things..... first off, I agree with multiple parties here. This is a difficult situation where both sides need to be understood. As stated, it is in women’s/men’s best interest to know some form of self defense. Classes, mace, a knife.... it’s important to make careful decisions when you’re going out. Where you’re going, who you’re with, what you’re consuming. That isn’t “putting it on the female”, that’s having common sense. Because unfortunately we live in a society where rape and assault happens. However... also as stated above, rape isn’t taught. We don’t live in a rape culture. There will always be cases of course, but overall as a society? For America, at least? Nah. Don’t even come at me with that bullshit. But anyway.. OP and others agreeing were making points that had substance. It is important to take certain things into consideration but in the end? What s/he wore, where s/he was.. the incident wasn’t their fault. Because a mentally ill, fucked up mind would have raped the wo(man)who was dressed conservatively or was sober. As for the proposal? We keep shouting until our voices are heard, because we never know who is listening or who it could impact. We let survivors know we support them and that we’ll do what we can to be there for them. We take precautions. We make sure we’re safe. It’s both, really. Simply learning self defense and going about our day isn’t going to solve anything either. It really comes down to understanding both sides and finding middle ground.... at the end of the day, it isn’t the victims fault. No matter their dress, no matter their consumption of substances. That is, I think, what everyone else’s point was. And they’re absolutely right.
