not surprised that no one is getting this but for alicent, love has always been explicitly tied to duty — her father, viserys, her children. and her relationship with rhaenrya is the only love that exists outside of duty. love for the sake of love. that's why she can't let go of it and that's why it's so tragic for her that it's too late to save it

what if i told you that that saddest scene for me between alicent and rhaenyra is the scene in the sept. and not because of the dead mom stuff but because of how intimate it is to share your grief with someone else. alicent says she comes to the sept to be close to her mother — something that clearly brings her some level of comfort — and tries to extend that comfort to rhaenyra. grief is so personal and so vulnerable and them grasping hands in that moment is actually so beautiful and testament to their bond and it makes everything that happens after all the more tragic
