I Won't Hurt You: Isle of Dogs Inspired Hyper-Specific Imagine

This started as like three thoughts that quickly spiraled into a lengthy almost-essay of word vomit. Written for my younger sibling, cousin, and co. but also for myself. Might not be relatable for everyone, but maybe you'll enjoy it anyway.

This whole soundtrack is amazing, but this track sparked something in me. "I don't know why I bite" is the perfect intersection between having trauma, being trans, and being neurodivergent and mentally ill to me. And then this song: "I won't hurt you, I won't hurt you"

Disclaimer: I do not headcanon Chief as trans, neurodivergent, etc. but nor is there anything wrong with any of these states of being. This is just a flow of consciousness half reflecting on Chief's journey and half contemplating the intersectionality of personhood with a dash of venting on top. Also I wrote most of this at work so it might not make total sense lol

You're Chief. You're not a violent dog--even though your friends think you are--and you don't know why you bite. You're different though, you know that. You're told there's something wrong with you. Maybe they're right. You have trauma. You're trans. You're neurodivergent and mentally ill. Sick. A life waster. You aren't like the others and they know this. They don't say as much, but you dare them to say it:

You're a stray.

You live on the streets, you expect you'll die on the streets. You've had a hard life, and you suppose you're more or less used to it. You don't have the strength nor the desire to change who you are to fit into what society expects you to be.

"I've lost all of my pride." Not that you had any to begin with.

You're disobedient. You do not like being told what to do. You don't even fit in with the other strays. On some level you understand, logically, why you are the way you are: all parts of yourself come together in a potent mix of suffering. "Torn apart by a fiery wheel inside me," and yet "I don't know why I bite."

Part of you is fine with being an outcast. After all, you've made it this far. You don't even feel this way all the time. Once in a while someone will try to pet you. It doesn't happen often, and there's no malice to it. You don't know why they're trying, but there's probably a reason. So you bite. You aren't sure why. It's just part of who you are now.

Maybe you're afraid. They're normal, and the simultaneous proximity and distance to that normalcy scares you. They might hurt you today, soft touches turning to claws and chains and a cold dark cage; or they could hurt you later, by seeing you and abandoning you as does each that has the misfortune of knowing you. It keeps happening, and you say you're fine, so your friends think you are. After all, you've made it this far.

None of your relationships last very long. You're hard to be around, you know that. But you don't mean to bite. You seem to have an innate ability to drive people away without meaning to--family, friends, potential lovers.

But then someone comes around and despite your warnings--I bite--they don't leave. You make it clear you don't want them here--I am not your pet, I never liked you, I don't care about you, I won't wait for you--and they seem to sense that you don't actually want to be alone.

"I won't hurt you, I won't hurt you," they say, with more patience than you've ever known. They promise over and over again because for some reason you need to hear it. They just... know.

"My rainbow, how good it is to know you're like me."

They give you a bath. They swab at your sores, clean your wounds, and brush your fur. You growl while they do it, even when it doesn't hurt, but you still feel better after. You aren't used to anyone touching you, but this person has reached inside you and found that tiny glimmer of light left tucked somewhere under your heart. This is someone worth taking the effort not to bite, you think.

It doesn't fix everything, of course. You'll never be normal. But having someone who loves you unconditionally, even on the days you can't help but bite, makes it easier to bear the weight of who and what you are. So maybe it's alright to be a stray, to be lost. In any case, now there's someone around to find you again.

"I won't hurt you, I won't hurt you," you say. You have to reassure them, even when they say you don't have to, that you never want to hurt them. You're begging them to understand. You have claws and fangs and you've had to use them, but "I won't hurt you, I won't hurt you."

Maybe you're still waiting for that person. But it's nice to imagine they're out there, even if most of the time you don't believe it.

God imagine Vegeta slowly falling accidentally in love with a human and he has to come to terms with his own internalized homophobia and xenophobia

He has to earn respect and forgiveness for his past misdeeds and learn to be better and simply just how to be without Frieza or the need/acceptability for violence

There's enough suffering in the universe already, and he realizes that love and kindness feel worlds better than the worlds he's destroyed

Falling in love feels simultaneously like heaven and the worst form of torture he's ever experienced

For the first time in his life since childhood, someone sees him and it is the most terrifying, painful ordeal to memory

(Also this way he won't get neutered like he did in the show and can have real (slow) believable character development that culminates in a real person with morals he knows how to stand by without contradicting them but is still very much chaotic and Proud)

What name to call Aragorn

What name to call Gandalf

What to call their meals. Boromir thinks, if it is eaten at dinnertime, regardless of whether it is the first meal of the day or not, then it is dinner. Sam thinks it isn't proper to call the first meal of the day dinner. Aragorn suggests they combine the two words but now everyone is fighting over whether it should be called breakfast-dinnner or dinner-breakfast. The fight nearly becomes physical

Whether Legolas or Gimli is winning their daily argument with eachother

If hobbits are regular sized and everyone else is really big, or if everyone else is regular sized and hobbits are small

The same as above except with horses and ponies

If Gimli's beard is real or not. This one started as a joke between Merry and Pippin but then Legolas saw how mad it made Gimli and so continues to bring it up

Inter-hobbit fighting about whether it is called pot-ae-toes, pot-ah-toes, or taters

"Can Legolas really talk to trees, or is he just fucking with us?" Aragorn and Gandalf refuse to weigh in on this

Whether the Ent-draught caused Merry and Pippin to grow or if they just did that on their own. This fight is Pippin vs. Everyone Else

Whether the non-hobbits of the Fellowship would be Tooks, Brandybucks, or Bagginses. This argument is unintelligible to most of them, although Gandalf has the knowledge to be offended when Pippin suggests he would be a Took.

"What would happen if someone ate the ring?"

Fights over whether the elves, the dwarves, or the hobbits tell the story of the reclaiming of Erebor most accurately. Even though Gandalf was there, he just shrugs when anyone asks him

Which variety of pipeweed is the best kind. Merry threatened Gimli to a duel over this one

the fellowship at fancy restaurants:

aragorn: literally would not care if he ate gas station sushi at a truckstop, does not see the appeal of fancy but appreciates the atmosphere. likes taking arwen out for fancy food, great at scouting out the genuinely good places, not just the expensive ones.

boromir: will fight you over paying the check. his current move is pretend to go to the bathroom, stop by the concierge’s desk and drop off his credit card there. always gets some sort of steak.

merry: deceptively well mannered. is polite and well spoken. offers to foot the bill (rich parents) but it’s an empty gesture cuz my man doesn’t carry a wallet on him 90% of the time.

pippin: gets like 80 appetizers and dessert. eats a little off of everyone’s plate. likes to order of the “secret menu” and enjoys french fries at every fine dining establishment regardless if they are offered to begin with.

frodo: very polite, has a hard time deciding what he wants. ends up getting several things and either sharing it with sam or giving the rest of it to pippin. all hobbits are incapable of bringing home leftovers.

sam: makes frodo order for him cuz he’s worried he will mess up the fancy names. fuckin loves him some fancy potatoes. takes a pic of the menu and tries to re-create it at home, 9/10 times it’s better than what the restaurant has.

legolas: eats the garnish. orders fancy cocktails and then will lick the salt rim off, eat the lemon, or the entire whole cherry, stem and all. likes to get pretty salads and sometimes will requests dressing on the side but not even use the dressing.

gimli: fantastic tipper. will fight with boromir about who pays the bill. has great table manners. will ask staff for recommendations and just order what they tell him to. not a picky eater, even if he hates it he will finish it all.

gandalf: shows up an hour, hour and a half, late. asks for servers to “surprise him” pays in cash, leaves whatever number feels right of hundreds on the table and heads out before the bill comes. he has been known to both dine and dash as well as tip 80%.

I must say I'm disappointed but not surprised people are voting the way they are, but I would like to point out that there is significantly more boat in Ghost Ship than in Wind in the Willows

Rat likes to mess about on the river but only a small fraction of the book involves that boat

Meanwhile the salvaging crew from Ghost Ship spends at least 90% of the movie on the thing the movie is named after slowly getting picked off by vengeful spirits and also one of the devil's subordinates (and the Antonia Graza is a beautiful boat!!! Come on!!!!!)

(Even if she looks like this by the time the movie takes place)

I’m pretty sure no one’s heard of/seen Ghost Ship and are basing their votes off of enjoying the children’s classic that is The Wind in the Willows (which is a delightful story btw!!) instead of which media has better boat

Anyway, watch Ghost Ship. I like that movie.
