I wanted to ask you about potential commission. I really like you Knight Shin and was wanting a picture of him and my Vault Dweller. Your page says they open in September but you will take applications ahead of time?
Hello and thank you! The post you're referencing is pretty old (I wish Tumblr would show dates clearly) and I'm currently not planning to do any commissions in the near future. At the moment I prefer to go through various classes and books I acquired over time with previous commission money because I don't get better by them collecting dust on my shelf.
Other people already contacted me about commissions, and if you wish, I can also put you on a contact/waiting list and come back to you once I feel ready again.
Cheers, V

Bought myself a little skull for my desk, now I'm building an army. Which is just a fancy way to say I just wanted to give a sign of life and that I'm currently doing some anatomy studies.

I don't really have a "Year Recap" for 2024 as I don't have any finished/polished art except for the 30 portraits I did. So, have this. I tracked how much time per day I spent with art in 2024 to have a little overview. I'm a data guy after all.
Can't wait to come back with something finished one day and disappoint with my progress.
#data in the streets art in the sheets#or something like that#But it does make me feel a little better as I don't post/don't focus on polished art that much anymore#instead I am just doodling 50 noses per day#and I'm enjoying allowing myself to be bad at things

Finished the workbook and got some new study material to go through now. My "back to the roots" training arc continues.

Guess it's time for a little update as I won't post any new art this year and probably some time.
I'm still alive, currently working through the workbook to "Drawing on the right side of the brain" and forcing myself to return to traditional art as it's less forgiving than digital.
Generally, I'm focusing on my fundamentals and working through books and courses that piled up over the years. Can't improve by just buying them, gotta put the work in. This is why I'm silent for the moment. A lot of still lives, exercises, studies. And right now: A lot of eggs. Always trying to get better every day.
Cheers.

trick or treat?
I've already discussed the matter with the Senator and it looks like your appointment as Director of Halloween was already finalized. So, here's the brief: Treat. always treat. We've had to endure much, you and I. Time to live like kings, or better than kings: Gods!

30 portraits in roughly 6 months. And with that, the challenge has concluded. Thanks for everyone who took part in it by sending me suggestions, thanks to everyone who supported me throughout this experience and 'Welcome!' to those, who have found this little blog because of it.
I will now return to my art school hiatus and focus on my classes and assignments - which means I will become more inactive again. If you want to chat, feel free to DM me here or ask for my Discord. I'll try to become more active/response there now.
Furthermore, I might be open for 2-3 portrait commissions in August, so hit me up if you're already interested. But for now, I just want to take a breather and let that challenge sink in.
Thank you.

Case in point: 5 months difference.
The fun thing about getting better/more confident in art and drawing OCs is that you get closer to the image you have of them in your head, while also being incredibly inconsistent in your drawings/designs exactly for that reason.

I defeated the demon. I think.
I gave myself art block because I wanted the last painting for the portrait challenge to be extra good. So far, I spent the entire week re-starting the painting 5 times and I prefer to stare at the canvas instead of actually painting on it. I'm sorry.

Did some more sketches of Walerya to become more consistent when drawing her. But that's not all. You were cheeky and there were a few people requesting her for my challenge - so I thought it would be nice to not only start with her, but also end with her.
And since this will be the last one and you had a saying *who* will be painted, I want to ask you this time which sketch I should use for my final painting.

This is the dirty sketch that prompted that thought. This is the closest approximation I have of Walerya so far (especially the hair), but she does look different in all of my art pieces.
....Should probably do an updated ref sheet soon.
