Hadestown doodles I made after I saw the show in London for the first time!!

Alright, finally saw Hadestown live in the Westend myself!

It was great, as good as expected.

Desmonda's Eurydice was so much fun in the first act (and the actors in general really seemed to have a lot of fun there!)

Great cast all around, everyone fit their role and I didn't feel like I'm missing out on anything just because it's a "new" cast.

The obc album tells most of the story, but even with all songs, you're still missing so much of it without the visuals.

Anyway, gonna think about that for a while.

this is a comment on a hadestown (epic III specifically) animatic i come back to sometimes and every time this comment makes me feel deeply unwell. does this person know the impact they've had on my psyche with this. on my mental health

my “Any Way The Wind Blows” animatic for anyone who might’ve missed it + some thumbnails and notes below:

* in the show, the fates act as the voices in the back of the characters’ minds, typically acting as the driving force behind the (mostly bad) decisions made in the story. even tho they are mostly shown in an antagonistic light in the show, the fates are still a neutral force- they’re literally just trying to move the story along lol. so i wanted to play with this idea by showing the fates intervene in one “positive” way by having their wind lead eurydice to the bar where she eventually meets orpheus, setting the story in motion.

* including the ensemble from the original broadway cast as extras in these animatics has made for some fun character interactions imo! in this song specifically, i have two different interactions between the ensemble and orpheus and eurydice to show their differing personalities and perspectives.

* out of all the characters in the show, eurydice is the main one being tormented by the fates (and the weather!). i wanted to have eurydice drift off and let the world fade away for a second as the fates consume her thoughts. even in her head, she can’t seem to escape the cold and hunger of reality 😢

* there’s a brief moment where hermes turns to a wall of photos and we see a poster of orpheus’s mother, calliope (the muse of epic poetry and eloquence). she’s only mentioned a few times in the show, so i took my own artistic liberties with how i think she would be interpreted in hadestown. i pictured her as a relatively famous 1920s jazz singer.

* lastly, i thought a little flashback of young orpheus would be a cute way to end the animatic. a few years ago i drew a funny little comic where persephone interacts with little orpheus and i thought it would be a fun callback for those who have seen it lol!

US-based company YouTube just nuked the government funded channel for HIV prevention in Germany. The channel is purely educational and had no prior (or current) violations.

Assuming you guys get elections again; if I see a single person telling non-US-americans to stay out of it, it's on sight.

He is doing that, but not for that reason. He's using those specific words to compare and contrast Persephone with Hades, who is "deafened by a river of stone".

is this orpheus basically calling persephone drunk but in like a fancy, indirect, “please dont smite me” way

I don’t even “make” my OCs half the time. I made one to fill a hole in my fanfic and then I ended up with like three more just trying to patch the remaining gaps. It’s like I adopted a cat to take care of a mouse problem and then it gave birth in my art studio.

It's interesting how so many people questioned Hunter's 'real' age, while with Vee everyone just seems to take it as canon that she’s the same age as Luz, when

a) like Hunter, she’s a clone made for a purpose

b) she's a different species and we don't know how fast or slow she should mature

and

c) her age is only apparent when she shape-shifts, so she looks the age of whoever she copies.

When we first meet her, she looks like Luz, so we assume that she's roughly the same age.

But we know she chose Luz because it presented an opportunity to escape, not based on age or anything else. She stayed as Luz bc that life was safe and comfortable and bc she made friends as Luz.

Which is why, even after Luz comes back, Vee would choose a shape that looks to be roughly the same age, no matter if that represents her true age or not.

(There’s also a possibility that Vee doesn't know exactly how old she is, given the circumstances of her childhood.)
