The beauty of tumblr is that some people here think that cigarettes get you high and drinking once a week makes you an alcoholic, while others here started smoking at 13 and wouldn't even consider ketamine a drug because everyone does it. And both of them are on tumblr blogging about TV shows from 2005.

I can understand how "modern person thrown into the past gets by pretending to be a healer/doctor" is as surprisingly common of a trope as it is. I mean I'm fluent enough at bullshitting to be pretty sure I could pull it off to impersonate a doctor in any time pre-1800s. If I have no idea what something is or how to treat it, I could just get the opinion of the other whatever-passes-as-medical-professionals around, but if their suggestions sound like bullshit I'm not doing it. And I'll beat the shit out of anyone suggesting bloodletting or mercury. With my healing stick. I've tied little bells on it, that jingle comically with every smack.
The awesome curative powers of my healing stick come from two separate sources: Placebo, and me using it to beat anyone trying to give my patients mercury.

I made this reply to someone sad they couldn't go to their first pride because the prevalence of anti-masking made them feel unsafe, but it felt like something more people probably need to hear or have reinforced. I know Americans especially can get really isolationist in response to feeling ostracized, but the opposite of that is how you fight ostracization. Show up masked. Be brutally honest about your reasons when asked. Meet more friendly people half-way conversation wise even if they're not masked. Make masked friends and expand your circle for potential organization (most maskers are willing to take some time or money to help you do things like distro, outreach, etc.). You can't let them push you out of society without a fight. "Rage, rage against the dying of the light" and all that. And in this case, it's as easy as showing up in a risk-appropriate mask.

I just think it's interesting to note that mRNA pose the lowest overall risk of hypersensitivity reactions. Weird how like everything the misinformation machines say about them is the complete opposite. It's almost like they're lying liars who tell lies.

I think it's time to exchange "you can only grow when you're uncomfortable" with "you can't grow without sometimes being uncomfortable, but you can't thrive without also experiencing safety and comfort." Getting better isn't supposed to be a process of constant suffering. We shouldn't aim for a state of constant discomfort in the name of growing as a person, and if you're deeply uncomfortable all the time then something is probably really wrong
