Irwin’s about to let lose a lightning bolt, He spots the glint of silver at the last second, it’s coming in too fast to dodge, the lightning in his hands fizzles out into a spark and he manages to snap and the shuriken seems to halt in the air before him, he twists out of the way, just in case and the shield shatters, from the force of the massive shuriken cutting into his right arm. He spins in the air, managing to steady himself with his wings, revealing more of Irwin’s language proficiency as he swears in a mix of 5 different languages. “Honestly, what’d you expect? I’m not letting you touch me. At least not now.” He grins, hiding the grimace of that cut because lord ow.
Irwin cocks his head to the side, raising an eyebrow at Zed, he seems to be chanting and raises a hand towards Zed, making a pulling motion and he casts Blight. A wave of necrotic energy washes over Zed, threatening to pull away moisture and vitality from his body. Powerful constitution and a strong and healthy body would be able to resist the brunt of this spell, but it’ll still take what it can ruthlessly. The magic spreads and washes over to the plants immediately around him, and he can see them all wither and die as they’re left into dried husks.
“I’m a spell caster Zed, of course I’ll keep away.” He smirks and readies himself for the retaliation.
IRWIN.
“Oh? You want more?” Irwin grins, and starts circling higher in the sky, eyeing Zed like he was prey. “I’ll give you more!”
Irwin clasps his hands together, arcane energy oozes from his hands and he quickly spins extending his arms palms facing outwards. From his right palm, aimed at Zed, a white-blue ray shoots out and streaks towards Zed freezing everything in it’s path in a thin sheet of ice. A majority of the arcane energy he built up shoots up into the sky opening a large rift in the sky. Snow and ice fall through the rift, but that isn’t all. In a second, a hail of rock-hard ice pounds down to the ground in a 20-foot radius centered on Zed’s current position. Turning the grounds into a quick wreck as ice breaks through earth, jutting up and freezing everything around it.  Irwin starts to laugh, already beginning the sequence for his next spell, he remembers how he used to fear lighting.Much time has passed and now he harnesses it. Lightning cracks at his fingertips. And he’s poised to strike down once more.
     Ah. Yes. More.
Zed smiles, even as he watches Irwin cast the potentially devastating spell. Sure, it has a large radius, and sure, ice is heavy and cold and sharp and so, so very deadly, but Zed is the Master of Shadows.
(People have always said his arrogance would be one day be the death of him.)
His reputation is not one that stems from exaggeration. He has spent his life training to be fast, to be able to outwit and defeat any opponent.
This would be nothing without the help of the spell on him. He steps out of the way of the first shard falling towards him, and for the briefest of moments, watches as it seems to hang in the air, slowly descending past him. It takes only another instant for Zed to spot the telltale glint of another piece of ice falling out of the sky, and again, he dives out of the way.
Oddly enough, it’s the smallest which are most difficult for Zed to avoid. He spends what feels like eons but couldn’t possibly be more than a few moments dancing around the falling debris, before abruptly stopping.
Gods damn it all, a combat exercise implies a fight, not just being hit by this ice, and magic, and any number of nearly impossible to avoid spells. Zed narrowly avoids a boulder-sized piece of ice hurtling towards him, and ducks around the remainder of the spell before hurtling a shuriken up at Irwin.
“Keep up with those infuriating spells of yours and I’ll have to leap up there and knock you onto the ground,” Zed called, sidestepping a stray piece of ice. “Hardly seems fair otherwise.”

IRWIN.
“It is a high-risk, high-reward spell. In my experience at least, when I throw that spell onto my heavy hitting companions. Opponents fall into a rhythm knowing that this is your speed. So when you pretty much double up on your usual max. That’s enough to take the initiative and strike a decisive blow.“ Irwin does the same, flaring his wings out, he’s not the tallest man, but he will make himself look more imposing. Not to mention the ice that’s beginning to crawl all over his body, spreading around his feet into a pool of ice around him.. Irwin chuckles at what he says. “Oh, Master Zed. How romantic.” Irwin flashes a smile. He hurls two large icicles towards Zed. One of the icicles hurtle towards Zed’s mid-section, the other a little bit above his head.
And well, a caster’s greatest weakness is close-quarters combat. Irwin isn’t an exception to that. His wings beat once and he’s in the air, flying a comfortable 30 feet off the ground.
“Which is fine for a one-on-one fight, but when you’re trying to destroy a whole order you, you need–”
Zed doesn’t have time to finish the long-winded thought before Irwin sends the icicles hurtling towards him. He jumps to the side, and again, time around him seems to slow to a turtle’s pace, offering him the opportunity to watch the icicles inch ever closer to the spot where he was.
Fascinating. Even with the spell cast on him, however, he doesn’t have too much time to consider icicle’s movements before they explode, shattering into hundreds of tiny shards. Zed manages to avoid most of them, but a few hit him in his legs and side, where no armour exists to protect them from the magical cold (and pinpricks of pain) he can feel.
Ow. It hurts, to say the least.
He supposes this boost to his speed may be less useful against mages.
“More,” Zed demands, shaking off the pain. “Give me something difficult to dodge, something that truly hurts, a reason to leap up there and attack you.”

IRWIN.
Irwin closes his eyes as he drifts down, taking in deep breaths of the fresh sweet air, his wings spread out wide, slowing his descent the closer he gets to the ground, snow trailing behind him as his wings catch moisture in the air, freezing them instantly. All in all it took him about a minute or so to glide down. Irwin pats his hands, ruffles his wings. It feels nice to stretch them out.  And he hears Zed again. And he swears loudly. Hand over his chest, he turns towards the ninja. “Ah dammit. I should have expected.” Irwin just blows a puff of cold air at him. “Yes. It would be the same as a basic casting of the spell. So, exactly how it is now. Depending on how long you’ll have me work on it, and resources available. At my skill…” Irwin pauses, rubbing at his chin, then tracing formulas and calculations in the air. “It can provide you this power, for 10 minutes. Every 8 hours. It’ll start recharging again the moment that 10 minutes is up, and it’ll be 8 hours from then before it’ll be ready to work again.” Irwin exhales sharply, amused. “Go play, explore your limits with Haste on you. If you want I can chuck some spells at you, like a combat exercise or something.”
A combat exercise? The prospect intrigues Zed. After all, he has yet to fight a dragon, or, well, a half dragon, as the case may be.
“I have to say, ten minutes feels a bit short. I don’t mean to sound greedy, of course, just that–” Zed pauses, trying to figure out how to phrase the sentence. “–It would be good for turning around or ending a fight, but if the effect ended too soon, well, the effects that book of yours mentioned don’t sound particularly pleasant.” He frowns, then shakes his head. “I’m wasting time. Shall we, then?”
Zed quickly adopts a fighting stance, holding himself still, resisting the urge to sprint and jump and leap and test out the limits of this ability.
“I’m sure it’ll be a breeze, seeing as I managed to beat you down here. I am a ninja, after all.” He chuckles. The glee of this speed is getting to him, but how could it not?
“May as well enjoy the remaining minutes we have.”

IRWIN.
Irwin keeps the spell in check, he doesn’t have to concentrate on Zed specifically, just the arcane tether that binds them now so long as the spell lasts. He lazily cups his chin, leaning on his elbows. He watches Zed get to his feet, and in a blink, vanish entirely from his field of view.
What.
Irwin’s composure slips in his surprise, swearing under his breath. He looks side to side before realizing Zed’s already behind him.
“Damn, I didn’t think you’d be that fast. Around 10 or so minutes. But since I’m the caster in this instance, I can make that double if I wanted to. But for now, just 10 minutes. I’ll let the spell expire naturally too so you see the well… momentary toll for this power and speed.”
Irwin pushes himself to his feet. “You can go as far as you want, no matter how far you are from me, the spell will hold, unless something breaks my concentration. I definitely wouldn’t be able to keep up, so I’ll just be in the yard if you have any questions.” He shakes his head as he chuckles to himself, finds the nearest window and chucks himself out, sprouting his wings in time to just glide down to the gardens.
Gods above, Irwin’s reaction is absolutely hilarious. There’s something distinctly more amusing about startling someone simply by walking quickly, as opposed to Zed’s constant deliberate effort to keeps his steps silent, or using the Shadows to travel instead of walking a little bit more often than he should.
Zed laughs, briefly overwhelmed with a level of elation that he has not felt in quite some time. The toll sounds dreadful, of course, but for the moment – Well, he has ten minutes to explore the world in a way he has never done so before.
     He feels faster, stronger.
As Irwin makes the decision to glide out the window (ever the dramatic one), Zed elects to match the drake’s unnecessary actions and challenges himself to make it to the yard before the other. He has magic affecting his speed, after all – why limit himself by choosing to not use it?
It is odd, Zed thinks, as he turns away from Irwin and exits the room. When they talk, all seems normal, but whenever Zed chooses to move, it is as though time has slowed down, offering him a clarity into the world he has never seen before. Oh, the things he would give to experience life at such a pace all the time. Even with the flexibility the Shadows offer him, it simply isn’t the same.
Within a few moments, Zed finds himself in the courtyard, laughing quietly. “So– Would the effect be the same in an enchanted object? Just as exhilarating, offering a similar level of power?”

IRWIN.
“Of course not. Trust me, I wouldn’t hurt you. Not unless you asked me to.” He says with a laugh. He traces symbols in the air as he mutters under his breath, the middle claw in his silvered gauntlet shines the brightest from the whole piece of armor and in the same time, an ethereal glow takes over Zed’s form that vanishes just as quickly as it appeared.
Then, he’d feel that… Almost everything seems slower, or maybe he’s just impossibly fast? No way to find out but to test it out.
Irwin laughs, nods his head and just lets Zed do whatever.
Zed narrows his eyes are Irwin’s last comment, but does not have the time to respond before he feels the wave of magic wash over him. It is an odd feeling, cold and warm all at once, but it is not, in any way at all uncomfortable.
Not for Zed, anyway. The Shadows respond in a much more negative fashion, sending a wave of irritation stabbing through the back of Zed’s mind.
Not a fan of unfamiliar magic?
What do you think, our oh-so-wise Master of Shadows?
Zed smiles, brushing the demons off and allowing himself to enjoy the feeling for a moment. The world feels different. Everything seems almost sharper than before, as though Zed now has the time to truly see.
He stands up, taking a step forwards, then glances back at Irwin. The spell said that he would move faster, but this–
Oh, he likes this. With a smile, Zed takes a few experimental steps.
     He is faster. Definitely faster.
“How long does this last?” He asks, pulling out a shuriken from his back and spinning it in his hands. Is he speaking more quickly, too? Oh, but it hardly matters – he wants to explore this spell, explore this magnificent sensation.

IRWIN.
“Yeahp. Sounds about right.“
He looks a bit surprised, even he didn’t consider that for a bit. “I uh- I’m not sure to be honest. A couple of years? Don’t worry, this is… pretty taxing work, but it wouldn’t get in the way of my own goals. But- Thank you for your concern.” He says with a small bow of his head.
“I’m sure you know, three months is quite an investment. Did you want to test out how the spell works right now? How it feels?” He grins, waving the gauntleted hand, letting just a small pulse of arcane energy ripple through the air.
“It’s fun~.“
     “I… Would it be dangerous?”
It might be a bit of a silly question to ask, but as has already been made evident on this day, Zed is in no way familiar with magic. Furthermore, Irwin is from a different world entirely – who knows how his spells would react with Zed?
Then again, Irwin has been in Runeterra for quite some time now. Surely, if it was dangerous, something would have gone wrong by now.
“…I suppose not. Yes. May as well.”

Irwin chukles gently patting Jax’s cheek as he pulls back. “Flatterer.”
“Don’t worry your head about it. Just relax. I can take care of it myself, so far. But- I’ll let you know when I need help.”
He lies back down taking a breath as he closes his eyes “So, let’s just. Chill or something.”
Lies on him. "Hey. Long time no seen."
Oof.
He laughs under Jax’s weight, “Yeah no kidding.” He gives Jax a nice hug, slowly rubbing circles on his back
“How have you been? Anything exciting happen when I was away?“

Irwin nuzzles against the other his hand rising and combing gently through Jax’s hair. “Suppose that makes me your wake-up call then.”
“I missed you too.“
“I’ve been making myself busy, starting to make simple magical items to help a friend in Ionia. Hopefully, this helps me further my research to figure out the Gate spell.“
Lies on him. "Hey. Long time no seen."

IRWIN.
He’s staring off to the side, watching a couple of birds fly around outside, going from branch to branch, singing their little songs.
He perks up as he hears Zed talking again, straightening his posture and receives the grimoire back. There’s a raise of a brow as he recognizes the chosen spell. Haste. A favourite of his, and would no doubt be effective in Zed’s hands, just the one caveat when the spell effect ends might make him reconsider. Either way, none would probably be left standing after the buff.
“A rather excellent choice, Master Zed. I’d say, in the perfect conditions: Everything on hand and no disturbances as I work. I’d say it’d take me a little over three months. This is if the item is usable at least once a day. It’d take more time if it can be used more than once.”
“There’s no side effects if you keep switching out your magical equipment, other than- well you’re wasting time if you keep changing your attunements. Attuning takes at least an hour regardless of who you are.”
“So– Say an individual used it one day, broke the attunement, then on the same day somebody else attuned themselves to it, they would be able to use it the next day without a problem…”
Three months is a bit longer than Zed had hoped, but he supposes it makes sense. Power does not come without a cost, after all. Not a day ago, he had planned to succeed without the aid of these items; the fact that they take longer to create than assumed changes nothing.
“–I do think that we have the ingredients for this one, in any case, though you would need a place to work, I assume. Ah–” Zed sits up, leaning back in his seat and tilting his head to the left. “–I have been working on a rather poor assumption. How much time do you have? I understand that you wish to return to your own world if possible, and I wouldn’t wish to distract from this search.”

X - ye olde time table lmao
IRWIN.
“Don’t worry, I’ve deactivated the trap on my grimoire. Anyone touching it without my permission would find themselves turned into a nice piece of frozen art.” He smiles, pleased with himself. “Our spellcasters share knowledge back home, but it’s just plain rude to steal someone’s grimoire.”
“Well. The quickest and easiest to make will be those listed under 1. And the ones with inexpensive material costs. The Shield spell is a favourite of mine, simple spell. Almost every caster’s first spell back in my world. But extremely effective at what it does, it’s saved my life more times than I can count. Detect Magic and Identify are pretty handy things to have too. The former more than the latter.”
He rests his chin on his palm as he watches Zed flip through his grimoire, trying to read what he can from Zed’s minute reactions as he gets through the stronger spells at Irwin’s disposal.
“Yes. Items that require attunement can be passed around. It’d take at least an hour spent with the item to attune to it. It’s much faster to break the attunement.”
     This is promising.
More than promising. Zed doesn’t want to get too excited before he has such an item before him, but–
Gods above, the possibilities are endless. What could anyone do against an army equipped with such items?
     Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Still, it will take time – some of these ingredients are startlingly difficult to procure – but that does not stop Zed’s mind from racing, immediately thinking through the possibilities and effects. Ionia would be powerless, forced to rise up and find the strength needed to stop him, or join him. One way or another, it would teach Ionia the value of power over weakness, of the individual over the group.
“This one.” Zed taps a gloved finger on the page, sliding the grimoire back to Irwin. “How long would it take you to make? And– is there any harm caused by too much attuning or… Breaking of attuning?”

untitled.
Zed has always liked the darkness of the night more than the warmth of the day, but even he can admit that it is far, far harder to think rationally when it is so late. Indeed, as he sits on the temple roof, staring up at the stars, he cannot help but find it difficult to think about what must be done – he needs to arrange another meeting with Karma, needs to check in on the latest batch of disciples’ training, needs to brief Jun on the most recent turn of events with Jhin – and instead finds his mind wandering to thoughts of the Kinkou, of Shen and Akali, of that infernal yordle who’d damned him and replaced him.
It is unimportant. They are unimportant.

“Hi!” He says excitedly as he gets down on the ground, spreading his arms out for them, cuddling with the squirmy little noodles.
“They’re rather small aren’t they? What’s their names?“
"I heard your eggs have haaaatched." :3c
“Hm, oh yes they have.” He raises an arm to have three excited little noodle dragons wiggle at Irwin. They’re tongues blepping as they slithered around his feet for attention.
