i hate how you put me in my head. i hate how every unanswered text, every unreciprocated smile, every dumb joke you don't laugh at, becomes something to be scrutinized, examined, ripped open over and over again like a gnarly scab on my self-worth. i'm supposed to love you and all you can do is make me feel insecure, and the worst part is it isn't even your fault.

on sobriety ?

it can be hard to move forward. linear progress is always possible, but never easy. in moments like this, i think of your comforting touch. i think of your hands caressing my sides, my palms gripping your face like prized treasure. i remember flashes of rage, fury, anger coursing through me. at you, yes, but more so at me. me, for putting us through this. me, for doing this to myself. me, for ruining every ounce of potential in us.

and potential, there was so much. us holding hands in quiet forgotten art galleries, sneaking kisses through masks on the go train, the way you fit perfectly inside me, my head on your naked chest, our hearts spilling out to muddle together and meld into one.

flashes of shame, regret, guilt, when i’d come to and realize just what i’d done to you. to us, everytime. you, there, every single time to pick up the pieces. me, never realizing that you were what drove me to do this to us. your glances, hesitant touch, my perceptions of your words. it’s always easiest to blame someone else. shame, regret, guilt when i’d lash out and hurt you, hurt myself, carve your sigil into my skin for the rest of time. my memento, until the day i die, of who i do not want to be.

i know there’s more. there’s something to be said about picking myself up, learning to do for myself what i always hoped you would. of learning to never do to him what i did to us. i just can’t access it right now.

it can be so hard to move forward.

The Quantock Hills

This is the most incredible time of year - the end of English Summer. The heather in full bloom at the end of August on the Quantock Hills. Get to a moor before the bloom ends!

I’ve said this before but: I love this kind of summer-autumn morning light. It is especially good on a Sunday morning when there’s nothing to do but drink coffee, read a good book, make plans or cancel them all to lie on the rug and listen to music and watch the dust in it.
