sam spruell's acting during the biscuit-making scene is fucking phenomenal. the little expressions of fascination with the process despite his previous protests. him briefly smelling the buttermilk before he pours it in. the decision to not hold the measuring cup correctly. the fact that he looks like he's never seen these things in his entire life but knows somehow that they are delicate & have their own specific uses. the blink-&-you'll-miss-it "ah, i see" nod when dot starts stirring. the intense focus to do it properly despite shooing scotty away when she gives him the cup. the decision to cradle the cup & continue watching attentively bc his need for love is starting to overwhelm his survival instinct. the awkwardness of his hands gestures bc they've only ever been used to kill, never held idle for things like this

Thinking about how non-physical Lorraine is with pretty much everyone in her life. And I'm not just talking about physical affection, but any kind of touch. After all, she doesn't even slap her own son in person.

We briefly see her stroke Scotty's hair at the hospital, but that's pretty much it for the first half of the season. Forget about touching her husband — those two are barely even acquaintances.

So by the time we get to the sixth episode, and we see her link arms with Danish and brush off his suit jacket with such ease, it packs so much more of a punch. It's practically a sex scene.

How could we not draw the conclusion that there's a history there?
