Never not gonna be funny to me that sabo and ace just canonically do not stop talking about luffy, but then on the exact opposite end of the spectrum you can know luffy for five years and you're lucky if you find out he has a brother before that brother barges onto the scene and knocks you flat on your ass.

saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.

her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.

on mari, and mari's hair: it was so much more than just shauna having a last laugh, exercising her fist of power one last time over mari.

mari was a character who was meant to represent where true power lied, at almost all times. at the beginning, during the plane crash, she was always offering to help jackie, was always by jackie's side and agreeing with her, and as jackie's power slowly faded, so did mari... to lottie.

mari worshipped lottie, participating in the prayer circles, believing in the wilderness, and always advocating for lottie's power. she said lottie doesn't need a gun, because she truly believed that, she truly was on lottie's side (as an acolyte rather than a legit friend, but still).

she truly bowed to natalie, and followed her plan throughout season 3, because natalie had legit influence over everyone.

but shauna? she never caved to shauna once. she never believed in shauna, worshipped shauna, bowed to her. everything shauna had, influentially, over mari was strong armed over her. and shauna knew that. we see shauna stare out at jackie and mari in season 1, when mari is talking jackie's ear off on the beach rather than playing in the water with the rest of the girls. mari is the one who helps take care of lottie after shauna's beat her up, mari wins in the capture the flag game when natalie is queen, mari doesn't even succumb to shauna's influence during the vote on coach scott, because what shauna has isn't influence, it's power through force. and mari can tell the difference.

shauna taking the hair was her demanding mari worship her, demanding mari be stripped of her ability to chose and to be humanized because mari never truly worshipped shauna. mari was always the truest acolyte, not to the wilderness, but to influence. she was the truest teenage girl, trying to follow wherever popularity led to survival, as if in highschool. shauna taking mari's hair wasn't just cruelty, although it was cruel. it was shauna ensuring that mari had no choice but to be decorative to shauna, be a part of her queendom, be tethered to the queen she always hated.

this is not a defense of the beauty industry as inherently feminist mind you but there is something kind of inch resting about how the online "feminist" critiques of the beauty and cosmetic industry so frequently focus on the overconsumption aspect of it with a heavy overtone of "mindless materialistic girls killing the planet with their tiktok shopping hobby" while not also acknowledging how many men and people who don't wear makeup/use skincare products/otherwise engage in beauty work have equivalently overconsumption-fueled shopping hobbies that aren't viewed with equivalent scorn by all the gen z captain planets out there. like where is this energy for the people buying 25 blind boxes hoping for one specific anime figure or collecting an entire bookcase worth of funko pops in plastic packaging or buying up enormous amounts of crafting supplies for a hobby they'll be passionate about for a month until the next adhd hyperfixation hits or buying shelves and shelves of books just to add to their "tbr pile" that they'll admittedly never touch, or people who go ham at barnes and noble during the criterion sale but just end up watching whatever's new on streaming? like performative consumption and searching for an identity through shopping is a pretty universal part of the first-world human condition at this point and it just strikes me as funny how a lot of the people who yell the loudest about how stupid girls are the worst for literally killing the planet with all their expired face goop are undoubtedly engaging in the same behavior for something that's just not deemed evil by virtue of being inherently gendered. anyway good morning baltimore

It really doesn't matter if Rhaenyra choosing to deliver Joffrey to Alicent herself was an attempt at a power play. This is always said by Alicent stans to dismiss the scene and place the blame on Rhaenyra.

"She wanted everyone to see how cruel Alicent was."

Yes. Good for her. Because what Alicent asked of her was cruel. Rhaenyra taking control of the situation doesn't diminish the fact that Alicent should have never asked this of her in the first place.

Every single fic update there is an author trying frantically to find the right balance between a nonchalant aside of "leave a comment if you enjoyed =)" and clinging desperately to the coat tails of a random stranger, dragging along behind them on the street wailing "Please, please! But thomas… the lover that witnesses.. accepts… soothes… He saw her at her most depraved and still held her… you guys. He was the only other person who had *seen* what she saw in her dreams. He was there in that castle… was inflicted by orlok’s perversions. In the flesh. Still he made it home. Then he watched her, frothing at the mouth and shaking in demonic fury, to then crawling and begging at his waist for mercy, then a moment laters she’s looking up at him with the very devil in her eyes and tongue… and still, he held her! As she truly sobbed. He told her it was okay, that he had seen it too. Continued to love her as his woman, descend to hell and destroy the demon for her. And Ellen loved him too! She says she felt he was sent to her, made her feel normal and okay. Her salvation. A love that feels like depollution… to be so inspired by your love for somebody that for them you go, willing, to the altar as a sacrificial lamb. Her love for him gave her purpose! I love them… not orlok nor any contract could ever dissolve the bond between them.
