How do you repair a broken drainage line
https://www.quora.com/How-do-you-repair-a-broken-drainage-pipe/answer/Charlie-Gonzales
Repairing a Drainage Pipe is really the easiest thing that you can do, well that is if you have the tools and you can read a little and maybe even watch a video or two about it Like on YouTube.
Replacing or repairing a Piece of Cast-iron Pipe.
1. USE Safety Glasses when cutting Cast Iron Piping.
2. Use a Grinder, that has a Diamond Blade. I usually pay about 14.00 bucks at the Home Depot for the Blade and use a DE Walt Grinder about 59.00 bucks for the Grinder.
3. Then Measure the pipe from end to end (If it's a straight piece of pipe. If fittings are needed then use accordingly the right turns). And cut ABS Plastic pipe 1/4" of inch less so it fits in between pipe connections, (You can usually just cut ABS Plastic Pipe with a regular hand saw).
4. Use what is called a Stainless Steel band, which cost maybe 3.50 each Stainless steel band.
5. Tighten the No-Hub Stainless Steel Bands with a 1/4" Nut driver, Fairly Snug.
6. If Pipe is hanging for instance underneath the house then strap every five feet with Plumbers tape to support pipe. Making sure you have a pitch or drop 1/4" per foot, use a torpedo level. Water will only flow if it has a drop or pitch.
7. Always play on the side of safety, by that I mean use common sense, for instance, if the ground is wet, be careful with the extension cord. Use cardboard as something to crawl on. ETC.
8. Check for Leaks.
I also always recommend to let a professional do the work.

Should I remove all the old caulk in my shower before re-caulking or can I remove just the old/damaged parts?
https://www.quora.com/Should-I-remove-all-the-old-caulk-in-my-shower-before-re-caulking-or-can-I-remove-just-the-old-damaged-parts/answer/Charlie-Gonzales
I was taught by a Master Plumber (By The GRACE of GOD) a while ago. Anyways back to your Question. Jack would tell me, (The Master Plumber who Taught Me).
If it isn’t done right the first time do it over again. So, Yes Take all the caulking Off and don’t try to shortcut it. Basically, take off as much as is possible.
And USE GOOD QUALITY CAULKING ( If You use the Cheap stuff Like the $2.00 stuff, those usually will build Mold and Mildew.
The Brand I use is Called “DAP” (Costs around $6.25 for a 10. ounce tube, it has a Lifetime Guarantee Against MOLD and Mildew ) and is for Kitchen and Bathroom, comes in White or Clear.
And Like I said it can be cleaned up with Water. I usually use a white Clean rag, and then just soak it in water and RINSE THE RAG REAL GOOD, put it in like a tourniquet and rinse out the rag.
Then I use my finger to get the caulking on and finish it up with the Moist Rag.
There are some Plastic Tools to use for getting it at a 45 Degree angle, but that’s how I was taught so I always just use my finger and a damp white rag (Just make sure it’s CLEAN). And remember to rinse out the rag real good.

3 SIGNS OF A BROKEN SEWER LINE
https://www.rotorooter.com/blog/3-signs-broken-sewer-line/
Your home’s main sewer line is buried beneath the yard, making it more difficult to identify a possible broken sewer line. Here are a few indicators that your sewer line could be broken:
1) EASILY CLOGGED DRAINS
Every now and then, your toilet, kitchen sink or shower can experience a drain that gets a little plugged up, in these instances a clog can be a quick fix. However, when a clog starts occurring with unusual frequency, especially in multiple drains, or if water is draining slowly throughout your home, this could be a sign of an obstructed sewer line.
2) SOGGY SPOTS IN THE YARD
A leaking sewer line can be caused by a break or collapse. However, according to Angie's List, a leak is often caused by a tree root that has penetrated the piping. Some of these leaks are harder to detect than others, especially in areas where the sewer line is buried very deep underground. While a leak in the sewer line is all but invisible, it could show itself in warmer climates where it isn’t necessary to bury lines very deep because of a shallow frost line.
3) UNSAVORY ODORS
You might not always be able to see a sewer line problem, but there's a good chance you will smell it. According to SFGate contributor Chris Deziel, any scent of sewer gas that is strong enough to permeate a house is a telltale sign of a plumbing problem. This could be a sign of a sewer line clog, as backups will often push smelly sewer gases up drains. However, if the odor is especially potent in the yard, the more likely scenario is that the sewer line is leaking.

HOW TO USE PLUNGERS FOR SINKS AND TOILETS
https://www.rotorooter.com/blog/know-your-plungers/
TWO TYPES OF PLUNGERS
The plunger, sometimes called "a plumber's helper" is one of the greatest and most convenient household plumbing tools. The often underappreciated plunger gets a bad rap but when you need one and are without one, you’ll develop a real appreciation for its attributes.
Before we explain how to use a plunger, you need to know that plungers come in two varieties: toilet plungers and sink plungers. The design with a more shallow suction cup is a sink plunger. However, this plunger will also work on toilet clogs in a pinch but not as well. The best toilet plungers have the deeper cup design that is specifically designed for toilets. Notice that it has an extended cup at its base, which helps it get a better seal around a toilet drain.
Remember, while a sink plunger may work in a toilet, the dedicated toilet plunger (like the black one shown in the photo) is not very effective on a kitchen or bathroom sink clog because the bottom cup just gets in the way. Fortunately, plungers are inexpensive so Roto-Rooter recommends you keep both types around the house.
HOW TO USE A PLUNGER
Grip the handle with both hands and slide the cup over the drain hole. Make sure there is water surrounding the drain hole, whether it’s a sink or toilet. Plunging a dry hole is largely ineffective but when some water is in the line and around the plunger, it becomes more effective at establishing a vacuum inside the drainpipe. Thrust up and down several times then pull back in a popping motion from the drain. In most cases this will dislodge the clog and establish proper drainage.
Don’t forget to plug the hole! When plunging a bathroom sink clog, remember to plug the overflow hole at the front of the sink, otherwise your plunger will not properly seal the drain and affect the clog. Some people plug the hole with a wash cloth or simply slide a finger inside to seal it off. The same principle comes into play with a double kitchen sink. You can’t effectively plunge one side of a double sink unless the other sink drain is sealed with a drain cover or sink strainer.
If no amount of plunging will dislodge the clog, you can try over-the-counter clog removers but use only as directed. When all else fails, your local Roto-Rooter plumbers are available to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Happy plunging!

What surprised you most about becoming a plumber?
https://www.quora.com/What-surprised-you-most-about-becoming-a-plumber/answer/Charlie-Gonzales
I have truly felt blessed (for being a plumber began my Trek back in 83′). Well most of the time for there where moments when I would cry. Yes, because when your digging ditches or crawling underneath a house. Dragging yourself for a little above minimum wage. Can sometimes be bothersome to say the least.
But I am very Grateful. That I stayed with it. Well that’s what happen when I started out as a plumber working with Jack. And as a Handyman with Mr. Mata. In the early 80s.
I also worked for 2 years. as an electrician, carpenter or handyman with a Master general Contractor. Mr. Mata. But I always stayed in plumbing. I guess I was just trying to find out how it was to be electrician or carpenter.
But Being a Plumber. given those first few years. I would have to say it’s like getting paid everyday. That is the good thing about doing repair plumbing. And your never do the same thing over and over unless you work in new construction plumbing. And Your Almost Al;ways in A different area and different situation on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, I would also have to say unless you become like a big plumbing business will you truly become wealthy. But it’s OK I like working with my hands. And meeting people everyday and being out in the field instead of inside a building. And fixing things I guess if nothing else that is very satisfying.
