the idea that we shouldn't post criticism about fr lore/art/etc on forums or anywhere because "the devs and artists probably check and see what people are saying and they might get sad if they see you guys being negative :(" is so bonkers. yall are saying we shouldnt share our opinions because it might indirectly hurt someones feelings?? people who work on something for the public (especially a game with thousands of users) should EXPECT that some people will not like it or criticize it, otherwise they're setting themselves up to be hurt by criticism.

and no, we don't "not get to complain" because the game is free. we do not have to mindlessly adore and praise the devs for every update

Most of you have no idea how making a living with art actually works Your experience begins and ends with watching a generic popfur smut artists get 10k a month in passive income via patreon subs and cashapp donations and it shows In the professional art world if you take 40 hours a week to produce 1 digital piece you will be replaced laughably fast. Being expected to yield something after a 40 hour work week is not crunch culture, that's an average full time job. People I've worked with who make an income exclusively through art are capable of producing 6 12x12 water color landscapes a week and that's on the slower end. Hobby commissions =/= art as a full time job It's unreasonable to expect fully lined and painted art from a commissioner online to be done quickly. That's a completely different standard for completion time since most people who do commissions are only doing it on the side and aren't looking to enter professional spheres The site credits almost 20 artists. A significant few being "contributors" im not sure if they were hired on a one-off contractual basis to do one or two drawings and no more than that, but nearly all of them address themselves as active members of the art team so Im counting them as well. A lot of the apparel is copypasted, rotated and flipped. There is nothing wrong with this but it's a simple fact and it's efficient. I'm not sure why users get so angry about acknowledging this but I'm not arguing this point because it's obvious with the barest amount of looking. Undel sketched and lined a dragon in 5 hours in a stream where she was heavily distracted by chat and kept forgetting how to use her tablet. They dont' color by hand, they run it through a coloring program. All of this adds up to a system that should be more efficient than it is If this site can't manage to get a modern done more frequently than 1 every 5+ years then it's a sign of either gross mismanagement or they need to hire more productive artists "the artists are already bogged down/there's too much apparel" yet they release a new ancient every couple of months which increases their gene bloat and errors and decided it was a good idea to add 2 genes a month to the festival items. Those are not the choices of a struggling team. Nobody adds a few gallons to the tub when they're already drowning.

It's fine to think that the pace that they produce art is acceptable. If your standards and opinions line up with their output then you're entitled to feel that way. At least try to admit it's based on your personal preferences and opinions rather than a professional standard you clearly don't know anything about

Earth is definitely a mommy/daddy's boy/girl flight imo.

Consider:

Dustcarve Dig: Do you remember when the last all-site lore event was? Yeah? Me neither. Adventure Mode is a LIE. It's not gonna happen. Stop talking about it lol.

Obelisk: The only new modern breed since 2016/2018. The only one assigned to an element and one of the more popular breeds.

Zombies: Staff won't let plague have zombies in canon bc zombies are an earth/light concept. Common plague L.

Pillar of the world: we have it. it's just that good, i won't even bother explaining how cool this stupid pile of rocks is. it's just very cool. me likey. ya'll should come visit it sometime.

However:

Our fest skins and apparel are pretty mid, but i think FR staff are coming around to be more open to "trendier" skins and accents overall. I can't say staff have an excuse for most of the earth apparel, but who uses fest apparel anyways?

Overall, I think earth is definitely one of the favourite flights. Dusthides are mid, but like... they aren't any more "mid/basic/bald" as banescales (whom I personally find pretty cool.)

i think the devs should release a whole new set of colors so that all the gen1 collectors with their fancy near miss xxys and such have the value of their dragons ruined lol

' idk if you were aware of this op but staff works. this isn’t a passion project and there’s people paying real life money to get gems to be able to buy cool genes and trade for treasure to buy the scrolls for Cool New Thing. customers do have a right to criticize what they pay for. “uwu we’re just a small wittwe team” does not shield them from all criticism, just like it doesn’t with any other game or site be they indie or AAA. hope that helps! '

also like, you can just choose not to spend real money on gems you are not obligated to buy them

if FR was a pay to play game then yeah you do have more say, but this isn't like a company taking your money for like unfinished game with laggy graphics is it

I know, it's the "in thing" to hate on dusthides in general right now, but I really just cannot get behind this breed at all. so here I am, salt blog, to tear into them and let off some of my frustrations. 

I've tried. I've looked at people who have made interesting dusties, I've tried to mess around with making one of my own, but I just cannot get into their weird heads and the strange shape of them. you can argue from dragonhome and back that it makes sense for a digging dragon to not have any horns or antlers, but it doesn't change the fact that the shape looks really strange, and all too smooth, especially for a dragon that is meant to be at least somewhat armored. the encyclopedia says that they look "rigid," but they don't! they actually look highly flexible! nothing about them screams "rigid!" they look so soft in fact, that they don't look like they have any scales at all. like if I were to touch them it'd be smooth, albeit very dry, soft skin.

everyone argues against their wings and I do, too. if they supported the ball rolling thing, it'd be different--but the backs aren't armored, they're actually meant for FLIGHT even if it's short, and would rip too easy, given their lifestyle. they would also get in the way of the ball mechanic. if they could work in tandem with the tail, it'd be fine, but they have to be tucked IN, under the tail. why even have them, then? especially if they'd be a hassle for squeezing into tight spaces? gosh! "they brace tunnels for cave-ins" HEY BUCKO... WHY DO YOU THINK WE BUILD TUNNEL SUPPORTS.... also I don't care. we were promised the option of very varied body types, and this is the most bog standard "dragon" you can get, even if it's peeled. it would have been SO COOL if the hide on the back was how the secondary gene was expressed, and the primary was on the belly/flank/arms, but... alas.

just... even aethers. I love aethers lol. but their second pair of arms should have been bigger. they should have had more eyes. like. ancients come out too fast, and could probably use at least a little more workshopping.

I also hate their giant singular claw, especially when you consider the fact that most animals with claws like that have multiple toes, instead of one big toe and a tiny thumb. sure. it's meant for digging, but it looks almost painful to have such utter lack of maneuverability, for digging, and ESPECIALLY walking. it like, helps to have toes that flex, not giant shovels for hands! with claws like that, it'd be more suitable for them to lay on their bellies and push themselves forward. the feet also just look strange. I can't get over it. I absolutely despise how, especially on the hatchling, they try to make the feet look "cute" by giving them pseudo paw pads. it looks gross and tacky! I can't stand to look at them!!

at least with breeds like banescales it's just a matter of personal taste, and not really feeling excited about them. it's so sad to me that I actually hate dusthides. man. I know not every breed can be a hit, some things will be a flop, but yikes. didn't expect to actually hate an entire breed. oh well. don't gotta own them.

im not gonna bother reading myself into dusthide design origins but if its supposed to be an isopod then im extremely saddened because im obsessed with those and it doesnt look like one. i would have ignored these dragons if the pachy gene wasnt a thing cause the regular head shape is horrrribleee. (why cant it have armor going over the neck.. oh my god) also.. please remove the wings or give it more legs lol... anything to make it less modern. welp.

I'm so sick of the mods/admins picking overwhelming "show a scene" skins and accents for modern breeds during festivals. I haven't bought a goddamned fest accent or skin in literal years because of this preference on their team for them cause they don't fit my dragons worth shit.

I want skins and accents that uplift and fit near seamlessly with my dragons not turn them into color barf.

congrats to ratmod for somehow obtaining two more triple G1s on the release date of a new breed. born right after each other too. WITH earth element. that makes 9 now. how lucky!

for real go just..spend a little bit of time looking at her dragons. how does someone hatch triples one right after another, with matching eyes, multiple times?

Admins should just scrub all the lore from this site at this point, the userbase very clearly isn't mature enough to handle anything that isn't bluey

Any of you know that show Moral Orel? There's a character that says something akin to, "Everything is offensive if you know how to look at it just right" and that sums up a lot of the users to a T. There isn't a single piece of media that isn't Problematique to some degree that's 100% free from REaL WorLd Parallels.

Or maybe you guys can follow your own advice and if you don't like the lore, don't read it. Ignore it if it's giving you IRL panic attacks or whatever you claim it does, you're obviously not mature enough to handle FRs already childish attempt at lore. You're all seriously so insufferable and obnoxious with how you use social "Activism" (spamming devs) as an excuse to be shitty to everyone you meet and always assume the worst of them.

Oh well. This is the exact community the devs have been cultivating with their choices and i hope they're enjoying it. They need to learn to ignore these users or they'll never have a moment of peace. Guess this is just the natural progression of things when you cater to histrionic middle aged women and socially stunted teens who grew up on twitter/tiktok. Everything is offensive unless it's as creatively bland as rice porridge.

if seeing dragon opinions you disagree with makes you feel personally attacked despite having nothing to do with you then thats your problem to deal with. take a break instead of telling people to shut up because theyre too negative for you. dont open or read or reply to the very threads that upset you. its that easy. no one is tearing you down for being happy so why are you tearing down people who arent. why do you think your negativity and moral judgement towards those who are negative is allowed but magically negative opinions on dragon neopets isnt.

I can't explain the love I have for the Dusthide ancients.

I know they aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I absolutely adore them. Not only are they nice and simple, they have some of the most beautiful tertiary genes I've ever seen. Veil? Superb. Spores? Excellent. Pachy? My favorite dinosaur. Their simple cute faces just draw me in and make me want to cuddle them...But also bounce them like a basketball.

I literally just transferred to Earth a few days before their release and I will gladly give all the Dusthides that my fellow Earthies are disappointed in a home.

Also they roll up into their ball form when they faint in the Coli? HOW FREAKING CUTE.

I love the little dirt devils.
