With the best infrastructure, the best possible Medical facilities, accompanied with the most competitive prices, you can get the treatment done in India at the lowest charges. Some common procedures for which international patient often travel to India are:
Tumblr media
A total hip replacement :
A total hip replacement also called a hip arthroplasty- is an advanced surgical procedure that re-structures the hip joint region. Under this procedure the head of the femur (the bone that extends from the hip to the knee) is removed along with the surface layer of the socket in the pelvis (the two large bones that rest on the lower limbs and support the spinal column). The head of the femur bone, which is situated within the pelvis socket, is replaced with a metal ball and stem. This stem fits into the shaft of the femur. This socket is then replaced with a plastic or a metal and plastic cup. Hip replacement is indicated where conservative management has failed. Worldwide, more than 1 million hips are replaced annually. With careful patient selection and meticulous surgical technique, good long term results occur in over 90% of cases.
The surgical procedure:
At the time of surgery, once the hip joint is exposed, the head and neck of the femur are removed. The shaft of the femur is then adjusted to accept the metal component consisting of the head, neck, and stem. After fixing the plastic cup the ball and socket are then replaced into normal position. Both of these implants can be fastened into the bone with or without using the special cement.
Cemented procedure :
The cemented procedure utilizes a doughy substance mixed at the time of surgery that is introduced between the artificial component and the bone. This type of fixation in total hips remains the gold standard and is the method of choice for many surgeons. Depending upon their health and bone density, people over the age of 60 will receive this type of joint fixation.
Noncemented procedure:
Despite its common use, not all individuals are candidates for a cemented hip. Studies show that young active adults tend to loosen their artificial components prematurely. The current trend therefore, is to use an artificial joint covered with a material that allows bone tissue to grow into the metal. A tight bond of scar tissue if formed, which anchors the metal to the bone. This is called a cementless total hip replacement.
Knee Replacement surgery:-
The knee in the human body is a hinge joint involving the thigh bone and the shin bone. Knee replacement surgery is a technique that removes a diseased knee joint and replaces it with an artificial joint (prosthesis). One of the most common reasons for this operation is severe osteoarthritis, which causes relentless pain, joint deformity and mobility problems. Knee replacement surgery is known as 'total knee arthroplasty'. A unicompartmental knee replacement is at times used instead of a total knee replacement. This is when only one side of the knee has been damaged by osteoarthritis. Unicompartmental knee replacements involve smaller incisions, reduced bleeding, quicker recovery, and less bone loss than a total knee replacement.
Knee replacement surgery procedure:
During a knee replacement surgery, the bone and cartilage on the end of the thigh bone (femur) and top of the shin bone (tibia) are removed. This is performed using precision instruments to create exact surfaces to fit the implant. A metal and plastic knee replacement implant is then fitted in to function as a new knee joint. Based on the condition of the cartilage on the undersurface of the kneecap, this may also have to be replaced. Indian hospitals provide you world class medical treatment at very competitive costs.

What You Should Know About Knee Replacement Surgery - Factors to Consider
It is very normal for older as well as middle-aged people to suffer from knee pain. While you will find plenty of treatments for this type of pain, there are some people who get severe pain in their knees and they are unable to carry on with their normal life because of this. All the treatments do not work and the only option available to them is knee replacement surgery.
Tumblr media
Perhaps one of the main reasons why many people consider knee replacement surgery is because they have a degenerative joint disease that causes permanent pain to their knees. Due to wear and tear, it is very normal for the older population to suffer from knee pain due to the aging of the joint.
The main reason why many people opt for knee replacement surgery is to get relief from the knee pain caused by degenerative arthritis. The main causes of knee pain are ligament tears, cartilage defects, osteoarthritis, meniscus tears, etc. The knee replacement surgery can be total knee replacement or partial knee replacement. This depends on how serious the condition is and what the doctor recommends. Basically, the surgery will involve the removal of the damaged or diseased joint surfaces and in their places, plastic or metal components are used.
So how will you know whether you should opt for this surgery?
If your symptoms include the following then maybe it is high time that you thought about this solution to your knee problem:
Difficulty in walking or moving your leg.
Permanent pain in the knee.
When the joint swells.
Usually, the knee implants can last for two decades but then again some implants can last for more than this period of time. Generally, the knee replacement surgery will last for about an hour and a half. However, you may have to spend a little more time in the operation theater. After the surgery, you will discover that there is an incision of about eight inches on your knee. Metals clips (staples) will be used to close the incision and they will be used for about fourteen days. At the time of removing the clips, it usually does not cause any pain.
You will have to consider a lot of things before you choose to have the knee replacement surgery done. Once you see a doctor, he will be able to give you detailed information about the surgery and he will also inform you what you will be required to do. To know more, visit www.drbharatmody.com

What You Should Know About Joint Surgery And Recovery
In INDIA, as people successfully live longer and more active lives, the joints in our bodies literally wear out and need replacing. No matter if it is a shoulder, hip, knee or some other joint that needs replacing, a more common and successful surgical procedure is joint surgery. As technology has improved and techniques have been refined, recovery time has dropped significantly, however, there are still some things you will want to know about recovering from surgery.
Tumblr media
Because Joint Replacement Surgery is very invasive no matter the type of joint being replaced, you will have to spend a few days in the hospital. This means you will need to expect to have a hospital stay which may last as much as a week or more depending on the surgery. If you are having a hip replacement, expect your hospital stay to be longer than if you have an ankle or knee replaced. Fortunately, with the advances medical science has made with equipment and techniques, extended hospital stays are usually not required.
Once home, you will spend a few weeks going back and forth to physical therapy to carefully build up the muscles around the joint to bring back the strength. You will be required to do exercises at home as well, but physical therapy with a professional is where you will get most of your work done. Unless your job is physically demanding, you should be able to return to work after a couple of weeks. If it is, you may need to consider a change in career or you may need a longer recovery time. However, if you have knee joint replacement surgery instead of a total knee replacement, you may be able to return to even a physically demanding job in just a few short weeks.
You may not be able to do the things the same as you did before or you may experience a full recovery depending on the type of surgery you have. Even though the recovery and therapy process does involve a certain amount of pain after the process is complete, the pain should diminish significantly and after a few months should be virtually gone. Unfortunately, joint surgery isn't an instant nor a magic process and effort will be required to bring yourself up to where you have as much mobility as possible. However, after recovery, you should be able to get a lot more quality out of your life than before. For more info please visit, www.drbharatmody.com

All About Total Knee Joint Replacement
Total Knee Replacement is a surgical procedure required by persons suffering from a condition called Knee arthritis, which results in extreme knee pain and inflammation and causing difficulty in any movement of the knee joint.
Causes
Wear and tear of the joint.
Extreme obesity that the knee is unable to support the body weight.
Genetic factors.
Injury caused to the knee.
Symptoms
Extreme pain.
Unability to move the knee.
Stiffness or swelling of joint.
Tenderness along the joint.
Deformity of the joint (knock-knees or bow-legs).
When other treatments such as medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes (weight loss or therapeutic activities) fail, the last option that remains is the Total joint replacement surgery.
Understanding the surgical procedure
During the surgery, an 8 to 12-inch cut is made on the front side of the knee after injecting general spinal, or epidural anesthesia. The damaged cartilage of the joint is taken out and is replaced with a metal or plastic artificial joint which is attached to the thigh bone and knee cap using cement or some special material to bind.
Tumblr media
With new technological developments in the field of surgery, Minimal invasive surgery is used which requires only a three to four-inch cut. When the incision is smaller it is easier during the surgery as fewer tissues are cut. Hence it also decreases pain and quickens post-surgery recovery.
After the surgery muscle strength is recovered with physical therapy though people start to walk with support such as parallel bars crutches or walker until the joint is not strong enough to bear the entire body weight. After a few weeks, people start to walk without assistance and thereafter can pursue most daily activities except heavy physical activity such as running, jumping, etc.
An artificial joint usually lasts 20 years and could last even more.
Recovery after surgery
Avoid using stairs.
Donot twist leg, keep knee straight.
Avoid hectic physical activity.
Avoid squatting and kneeling.
Use a firm straight-back chair and avoid recliners and sofas.
Avoid injury and falling or slipping.
Return to activities such as driving and exercise only after complete recovery and after being reassured by a doctor
Risks after the surgery
Due to restricted movement blood clots could occur which would require blood thinners.
Swelling could occur in the nerves hence causing discomfort and numbness.
Bones could get injured or cracked during the surgery hence requiring treatment.
Infection and bleeding as risks in any operation.
The replaced parts of the joint could become loose or could break, but this is a very rare condition.

Knee Replacement Surgery Facts You Must Know
Where the thigh meets the lower leg, there is a hinge joint called the knee. When the knee is diseased such that it cannot function as normal, knee replacement surgery is done. The thigh bone also called as femur abuts the tibia which is the larger bone of the lower leg. During a knee replacement surgery, the end of the femur is removed and replaced with a metal shell. Similarly the end of the tibia is removed and replaced with a channeled plastic and metal stem. The surfaces forming the joint are removed and a highly polished metal prosthesis is inserted.

Some Knee Replacement Facts:
Osteoarthritis is the main reason for patients to opt for total knee replacement.
This surgery is performed only when there is severe destruction of the knee with progressive pain and impaired function.
Every surgery has risks involved, and every knee surgery hospital will warn you before your surgery.
Rehabilitation is an essential part of recovery. This generally includes adequate amount of physiotherapy.
It is recommended for patients with artificial knee joints to take antibiotics before any other invasive procedures such as dental work.
For people suffering from knee damage due to progressive arthritis, trauma or other rare knee diseases, knee replacement treatment could bring a lot of relief and help individuals regain the confidence of living a normal and independent life.
Preoperative evaluation of the joints:
All joints adjacent to the knee are evaluated during the pre ops evaluation. This is highly essential to ensure the optimal outcome of the surgery. Also, the patients are reviewed for all the medications that they are currently taking. Some of the medications that have effects like blood thinning or medication like aspirin that have inflammatory properties may be discontinued by your doctor before knee replacement surgery.
Some other blood tests may be taken for organs like liver and kidneys.
Urine tests will also be taken for detecting signs of anemia and abnormal metabolism. This type of test can detect any infections that need to be treated early on.
Chest X Rays will ensure that there are no heart ailments that might cause a hindrance in the knee replacement treatment.
Body weight is checked even before the patient's candidacy for the surgery is decided upon. This is mainly because excess body weight puts the replaced knee at an increased risk of either dislocation or of loosening. This makes recovery even more difficult for the patient. Dr. Bharat Mody is the Best Knee Replacement Surgeon in India and Knee Replacement Specialist in Vadodara, Gujarat.

What You Should Know About Total Joint Replacement Surgery
Because our joints don't bother us often now, we take for granted that we have the ability to walk, jog, run, bend over or reach out for things. But as we age, some may need total Joint Replacement Surgery because of conditions that affect them like injuries that involve our joints or rheumatoid or osteoarthritis. While these have been challenging operations to recover from in the past, advances in technology and techniques have reduced recovery time dramatically.
Tumblr media
To understand why joint replacement is necessary it's important to understand how the joints work. What makes the joints work smoothly is the cartilage where the bones come together at a joint, no matter if it is the hip, knee, elbow, ankle, or the shoulder. Cartilage allows for pain-free and frictionless movement and typically has a smooth texture. But movement can become rather painful when the cartilage is severely worn or damaged. When the joint is worn enough to cause bone on bone rubbing, even minor daily activities like walking, traversing stairs, and even bending over becomes painful and difficult. As it becomes worse, it can become totally debilitating.
Replacing the damaged cartilage with plastic or metal joints and relieving as much pain as possible is the ultimate goal by surgery becoming an option. By replacing the cartilage, complete joint movement and functionality can be restored which in turn restores mobility. For those patients who choose total joint replacement surgery, many can have their quality of life returned and gain back their independence.
Fortunately, surgery for total joint replacement is not as traumatic as it has been in the past for patients because of the technology available today. Patients can even begin to move the new joint the same day as having the surgery with many of the surgeries for shoulder and knee replacement. Instead of being forced to spend weeks in a hospital, many patients can go home within a short time, usually a few days, after surgery, and will be able to do most of their rehabilitation in a home setting.
Having a proactive health routine at home including physical rehabilitative therapy is necessary to ensure the new joint functions as well as possible. Every patient will have a different amount of time with how quickly they recover and become active after surgery to replace the joint. You can better prepare by knowing what to expect if your doctor says your best option is surgery. To know more, visit www.drbharatmody.com
