Nijiko wasn't paid horrible at Lyon's Den, but it was still a waitress's salary and she as at the mercy of tips. To keep up with any of her favorite authors or whatever subjects struck her fancy, she made consistent use of local libraries. Typically the experience was quiet nor was she disturbed. This time would be a bit different as a someone literally walked into her and caused her books to tumble from her arms. "I mean, did you mean to?" she asked, trying her best to make a joke of the situation. Nijiko bent down with the man as he helped her pick up the books. "Because I haven't been booked since high school if you meant it. Weird place to relive high school, though nearly twelve years later, isn't it?"
WHO: leo + anyone - feel free to assume connections ◡̈ WHERE: the non-fiction section of newton library TW'S: language
oh, CRUEL world. maybe he deserves this, for sticking to brick and mortar when the internet is the way to go these days. in his attempt to wrench a book out from a tightly packed shelf - which took more strength than he could've possibly anticipated - he'd jostled the bookcase just enough to send some falling to the ground on the other side. loud thuds and curious eyes finding him ... would that the bookcase just fall and CRUSH him instead, put him out of this misery. still, leo rounded the corner to clean up his mess, shamed moreover to find somebody on the other side. ❝ fuck shit i'm sorry fuck, ❞ was a litany falling from his lips as he approached and knelt down to pick up the few books that littered the ground. ❝ i didn't hit YOU, did i? ❞

A man seemed lonely as he handled his drink in his hand and Nijiko didn't mind talking to someone, anyone. It wasn't until his awkward greeting that the woman regretted walking up to him. The smile on her lips quickly soured.
"Hello, nice to see you as well," Nijiko growled in response to the man's unfriendliness. "Yes, I've been great. I am just so happy you asked me. I'd ask you how you're doing, but you seem... Pleasant."
The screen door creaked behind him, but Calder didn’t look up right away. He stood on the porch, one hand curled around a sweating glass of sweet tea, watching the sky change colors over the treetops. “Didn’t think you’d actually show,” he said, voice low, even. Not accusing—just honest.
He glanced over his shoulder then, a small flicker of something unreadable in his expression. “I wasn’t sure if I wanted company or not. Still not, maybe. But you’re here.” A beat. “So… you want to come in, or are we standing out here like ghosts?”

It was a nice day to read, but it seemed like everyone wanted to enjoy the nice weather. There wasn't many places to sit at when Nijiko arrived at the park. The picnic tables were occupied for what seemed to be a birthday party. When she walked around to try and find a free spot to sit, the only place that seemed like she could sit down at was an open half bench. Nijiko did her best not to disturb the man from his reading as she sat down next to him, but noticed that she failed her goal when he greeted her. A small smile pressed onto her lips as she engaged in the conversation. "Weather's nice," she said, pulling out her own book from her bag. "I didn't expect it to be overrun with kids, though, but I've already committed to being here."
Starter for: Matthew & Open Location: Park
Matthew had the children at the park for a birthday party. The parents of the part told him that they would keep an eye on all of the children so the parents could leave and do whatever they needed. However, Matthew was just a little bit worried about anything being able to happen so he was sitting on a bench and readina book while he listened to what was going on. He noticed someone sitting down next to him and he looked up and then looked to the person to his right. "Hi. What's brings you here? Anything fun?"

Nijiko wasn't sure if the light blue was a good color for her. Yes, it was a nice summer color that had its place in the winter and spring season, but the dressing room's mirrors were never as nice as the ones that they had at the end of the hall. So, she opened the door only to be surprised by an unexpected person on the other side; and she screamed on instinct. Nijiko stood shocked and warm. Her heart pounded in her chest. The apples of her cheeks felt as if they were burning, but she couldn't tell if the flush was from the compliment from the woman or the fact that she was embarrassed that she had just screamed in this woman's face. "Sorry," Nijiko stuttered. "I mean thank you. I wasn't sure if the color suited me. Did you — do you need the changing room?"

THE BLONDE HELD A BUNDLE OF CLOTHES IN HER ARMS, maneuvering her way towards the fitting rooms to try on the items she selected. she approached one of the stalls, reaching a hand towards the handle when the door suddenly opened. fifi jumped, startled by the sudden movement, but couldn’t help look the person inside up and down. “wow! that looks gorgeous on you!”

for general stats || for connections
constantly wanting what she can't have and then leaving when things don't go her way or the lies she tells starting to crumble around her, nijiko has never been satisfied once in her life. if she ever feels like she has had enough, she finds something new to be fickle over. she wants what she wants and settles for nothing less.
but this comes with a price. nijiko wants everything, but that means she can truly have nothing. she wanted the perfect grades, the best college parties, and the most amount of friends; and she lied and schemed to get what she wanted. or at least, she lied to make it seemed like she had it all.
then, someone lied to her. broke her heart. and she was faced with reality. it was the first jenga block to be pulled from the tower. the house of cards collapsed. nijiko found herself kicked out of college at twenty-four after wasting six years partying and not attending classes. her partner at the time had lied to her and had his own made up life that she didn't know.
so nijiko did the most logical thing: she ran. first, it was a new town every month or so. then she stayed for more than six months and made some connections, but old habits died hard. once a little bit of her lies were found out, nijiko took her suitcase and ran again.
driving through magnolia, nijiko saw a position opened at lyon's den and applied as a waitress. she slept in her car for a few weeks before securing housing in ivory acres. and now, she's here, but for how long?
